    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship between students’ attitude in space science with their achievement in the field. This study also examines students’ performance in space science. A total of 458 of secondary school students participated in this study. The questionnaire for this study was divided into two parts. The first part contains 9 items about students’ attitudes towards space science while the second part consists of 20 questions of general knowledge about space science. The findings show that students’ general knowledge about space science is at moderate level. The result also shows a significant relationship between students attitude with their achievement towards space science

Peran Mahasiswa Dalam Peningkatan Pendidikan Masyarkat Melalui Pojok Literasi-Ku Di Desa Bumi Sari Kecamatan Beutong Kabupaten Nagan Raya

FEM analysis of wavelength effects in piezoelectric substrate

In this paper, we discussed simulation of several annular surface acoustic wave (A-SAW) devices using various wavelengths to identify its effects on the focusing properties and to analyze the propagation of Rayleigh waves in piezoelectric substrate. By choosing Y-cut Z propagating Lithium Niobate as the substrate and aluminum electrodes as the IDT, we modeled the A-SAW devices using Comsol Multiphysics. We used 8 pairs of annular electrodes with thickness of 1 μm with three different design's wavelength of 100 μm, 150 μm and 200 μm, respectively. To minimize the computational time in determining the optimum frequency i.e. resonant frequency of the device, only one pair of electrode for each design is simulated under eigenfrequency analysis in 2D piezoelectric (pzd) module. To understand the Rayleigh waves behavior, simulation of the whole device structure was done under frequency domain analysis in 2D-axisymmetric piezoelectric module. From the simulation results, it can be observed that SAW displacement profiles, electric potential field and operating frequency are significantly influenced by the wavelength. The formation of focused acoustic waves at the center of A-SAW device suits them in biosensing and microfluidic actuation applications that require detection or manipulation of localized variations

Induced mass change technique for glucose detection in microcantilever-based sensors

    No full text
Microcantilever-based glucose sensor is a state-of-art sensor that has been widely investigated for biosensing applications. This work focuses on the preliminary study of correlation of the glucose reaction and the induced force on the microcantilever sensor by measuring the induced mass changes due to the glucose reaction. The induced force is then used to test the fabricated microcantilever sensor for glucose detection. Gold-coated glass slides were used as the immobilization sites for glucose oxidase enzyme. The reaction of the glucose oxidase enzyme and ß-D glucose was observed by injecting 5 mM glucose solution on 0.3 mL immobilized enzyme on three samples. The resulted mass changes, ranging from 151.87 mg to 180. 14 mg for the three samples, indicate a good correlation between the enzyme-glucose reaction and the induced mass change. The induced forces of 0.28 μN to 0.29 μN, converted from the mass changes of the glucose-enzyme reaction, is in a range of interactive force values commonly found in biochemical detection applications

Optimization of focusing SAW propagation in piezoelectric medium for microfluidic applications

    No full text
In this study, a 2D axisymmetric finite element model of annular surface acoustic wave (A-SAW) resonator to evaluate the SAW propagation was modeled and its focusing properties on lithium niobate substrate was optimized. The analysis concept is based on utilization of patterned annular interdigital electrodes on piezoelectric substrate’s surface to generate surface acoustic waves with high intensity in a confined localized area. From the simulation results, it can be observed that acoustic amplitude field, displacement contours and waves propagation direction are significantly influenced by the geometric parameters of the device. Increasing number of finger pairs of annular electrodes produces high displacement amplitude meanwhile devices with smaller electrodes’ gap of 25 μm induced steeper focusing gradient compared to devices with 50 μm electrodes’ gap. Acoustic waves from device with large inner diameter of 500 μm require more time to be focused at the center of the device. From the analysis, it can be concluded that small diffraction limited acoustic spot at the center of A-SAW device is suitable for microfluidics application that requires detection or manipulation of localized variations

Development of UKM-SID Teaching Module for Space Science Education

    Get PDF
This paper highlights the development of UKM-SID teaching module for solar flare detection utilizing VLF technique. This module consists of three segments namely, the antena development, preamplifier and data logger. It was introduced in selected high schools in Selangor, Malaysia, where students need to build the antenna, assemble the preamplifier and analyze the data. They were also required to keep a log book of their activities. With the aid of the teaching module, the students gained hands-on experience in carrying out a team project and indirectly enhance their knowledge in space science
