    Dyonic Giant Magnons in CP^3: Strings and Curves at Finite J

    This paper studies giant magnons in AdS_4 x CP^3 using both the string sigma-model and the algebraic curve. We complete the dictionary of solutions by finding the dyonic generalisation of the CP^1 string solution, which matches the `small' giant magnon in the algebraic curve, and by pointing out that the solution recently constructed by the dressing method is the `big' giant magnon. We then use the curve to compute finite-J corrections to all cases, which for the non-dyonic cases always match the AFZ result. For the dyonic RP^3 magnon we recover the S^5 answer, but for the `small' and `big' giant magnons we obtain new corrections.Comment: 22 pages, 3 figures, 2 tables. v2 adds note on breather solution, and minor clarification

    Detection of potentially gas flaring-related pollution on vegetation cover using remotely sensed data at 11 flaring sites in Rivers State, Nigeria is the emphasis of this research. 21 Landsat 7 Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM ), and 4 Landsat 8 Operational Land Imager and Thermal Infrared Sensor (OLI-TIRS) data dated from 21/04/2000 to 05/02/2022 with  3  cloud cover were used. Normalized Differential Vegetation Index (NDVI) was retrieved from corrected Landsat 7 bands (1-4), and Landsat 8 bands (2-5). Corrected thermal band was used for the computation of Land Surface Temperature (LST). Change in NDVI (Ī“NDVI450-60)m and LST ( Ī“LST60-450m) were computed. NDVI values at 60 m from the stack show that as the year increases, NDVI values around the stack reduces to almost zero. Linear regression analysis was considered for (Ī“ NDVI450-60)mN against ( Ī“NDVI450-60)mE, (Ī“NDVI450-60)mN against (Ī“NDVI450-60)mS, and (Ī“NDVI450-60)mN against (Ī“NDVI450-60)mW. Only (Ī“NDVI450-60)mN against (Ī“NDVI450-60)mW give statistically significant results at 99 % confidence level (p-value  0.0016). (Ī“NDVI450-60)mN,E,S,W against (Ī“LST60-450)mN,E,S,W were considered and results show positive correlation but statistically insignificant. Based on the results of this research, it can be concluded that flaring-related pollution can be detected on vegetation cover using Landsat 7 and Landsat 8 data in the Niger Delta

    Ornamental marine species culture in the coral triangle: seahorse demonstration project in the Spermonde Islands, Sulawesi, Indonesia.

    Ornamental marine species ('OMS') provide valuable income for developing nations in the Indo-Pacific Coral Triangle, from which most of the specimens are exported. OMS culture can help diversify livelihoods in the region, in support of management and conservation efforts to reduce destructive fishing and collection practices that threaten coral reef and seagrass ecosystems. Adoption of OMS culture depends on demonstrating its success as a livelihood, yet few studies of OMS culture exist in the region. We present a case study of a land-based culture project for an endangered seahorse (Hippocampus barbouri) in the Spermonde Islands, Sulawesi, Indonesia. The business model demonstrated that culturing can increase family income by seven times. A Strengths Weaknesses Opportunities Threats (SWOT) analysis indicated good collaboration among diverse stakeholders and opportunities for culturing non-endangered species and for offshoot projects, but complicated permitting was an issue as were threats of market flooding and production declines. The OMS international market is strong, Indonesian exporters expressed great interest in cultured product, and Indonesia is the largest exporting country for H. barbouri. Yet, a comparison of Indonesia ornamental marine fish exports to fish abundance in a single local market indicated that OMS culture cannot replace fishing livelihoods. Nevertheless, seahorse and other OMS culture can play a role in management and conservation by supplementing and diversifying the fishing and collecting livelihoods in the developing nations that provide the majority of the global OMS
