Transversality of the logarithmic divergences in the Classical Finite Temperature SU(N) Self-Energy
We show that the logarithmic divergences that appear in the classical
approximation of the finite temperature SU(N) self-energy are transverse. We
use the Ward identities in linear gauges and the fact that the superficial
degree of divergence d of a classical diagram only depends on the number of
loops l via d=2-l. We comment on the relevance of this result to the

Ward Identities for the 2PI effective action in QED
We study the issue of symmetries and associated Ward-like identities in the
context of two-particle-irreducible (2PI) functional techniques for abelian
gauge theories. In the 2PI framework, the -point proper vertices of the
theory can be obtained in various different ways which, although equivalent in
the exact theory, differ in general at finite approximation order. We derive
generalized (2PI) Ward identities for these various -point functions and
show that such identities are exactly satisfied at any approximation order in
2PI QED. In particular, we show that 2PI-resummed vertex functions, i.e.
field-derivatives of the so-called 2PI-resummed effective action, exactly
satisfy standard Ward identities. We identify another set of -point
functions in the 2PI framework which exactly satisfy the standard Ward
identities at any approximation order. These are obtained as field-derivatives
of the two-point function \bcG^{-1}[\phi], which defines the extremum of the
2PI effective action. We point out that the latter is not constrained by the
underlying symmetry. As a consequence, the well-known fact that the
corresponding gauge-field polarization tensor is not transverse in momentum
space for generic approximations does not constitute a violation of (2PI) Ward
identities. More generally, our analysis demonstrates that approximation
schemes based on 2PI functional techniques respect all the Ward identities
associated with the underlying abelian gauge symmetry. Our results apply to

A new compilation of stomach content data for commercially-important pelagic fish species in the Northeast Atlantic
There is increasing demand for information on predator–prey interactions in the ocean as a result of legislative commitments aimed at achieving sustainable exploitation. However, comprehensive data sets are lacking for many fish species and this has hampered development of multispecies fisheries models and the formulation of effective food-web indicators. This work describes a new compilation of stomach content data for five pelagic fish species (herring, blue whiting, mackerel, albacore and bluefin tuna) sampled across the northeast Atlantic and submitted to the PANGAEA open-access data portal (www.pangaea.de). We provide detailed descriptions of sample origin and of the corresponding database structures. We describe the main results in terms of diet composition and predator–prey relationships. The feeding preferences of small pelagic fish (herring, blue whiting, mackerel) were sampled over a very broad geographic area within the North Atlantic basin, from Greenland in the west, to the Lofoten Islands in the east and from the Bay of Biscay northwards to the Arctic. This analysis revealed significant differences in the prey items selected in different parts of the region at different times of year. Tunas (albacore and bluefin) were sampled in the Bay of Biscay and Celtic Sea. Dominant prey items for these species varied by location, year and season. This data compilation exercise represents one of the largest and most wide-ranging ever attempted for pelagic fish in the North Atlantic. Looking for defects in the 2PI correlator
Truncations of the 2PI effective action are seen as a promising way of
studying non-equilibrium dynamics in quantum field theories. We probe their
applicability in the non-perturbative setting of topological defect formation
in a symmetry-breaking phase transition, by comparing full classical lattice
field simulations and the 2PI formulation for classical fields in an O()
symmetric scalar field theory. At next-to-leading order in 1/N, the 2PI
formalism fails to reproduce any signals of defects in the two-point function.
This suggests that one should be careful when applying the 2PI formalism for

The District Energy-Efficient Retrofitting of Torrelago (Laguna de Duero – Spain)
The urban growth is estimated to reach up the 66 % by 2050 and consequently the need of resources within the cities will increase significantly. This, combined with the 40 % of energy consumption and 36 % of CO2 emissions of the building sector, makes necessary to accelerate the transition towards more sustainable cities. The CITyFiED project contributes to this transition, aiming to develop an innovative and holistic methodological approach for energy-efficient district renovation and deliver three large scale demonstration cases in the cities of Lund (Sweden), Laguna de Duero (Spain) and Soma (Turkey). CITyFiED methodology consists of several phases that ease the decision-making tasks towards the district renovation, considering the energy efficiency as the main pillar and local authorities as clients. For the case of Torrelago district (Spain) the intervention consists of a set of energy conservative measures including the facÄ…de retrofitting of 143.025 m2 of living space in 31 twelve-storey buildings; the renovation of the district heating network with a new biomass thermal plant; the integration of renewable energy sources, including a micro-cogeneration system, and the installation of individual smart meters. After the renovation action, one-year monitoring campaign is ongoing. The CITyFiED monitoring platform will collect information from the energy systems and deliver environmental, technical, economic and social key performance indicators by March 2019. At the end of the project the achievement of the predefined goals will be verified: Up to 36 % of energy saving and 3,429 tons-CO2/yr emissions saving covering the 59,4 % of the energy consumption with renewable sources.The research and results presented in this paper evolve from activities related to the CITyFiED project, which has received funding from the European Commission under the Grant Agreement no. 609129. ¿És d'interès públic mantenir una xarxa de seguiment de ratpenats als espais naturals protegits de l'Alt Empordà ?
Entre els anys 2001 a 2009 s’han realitzat diverses campanyes d’estudi de ratpenats a l’Alt EmpordĂ , sobretot en espais naturals protegits. A banda d’unes 300 nits de camp, s’han realitzat nou conferències, s’ha editat material didĂ ctic i generat desenes de notĂcies. Durant aquest perĂode, s’han citat 25 espècies de ratpenats (86% de les catalanes). A l’Albera i l’AltaGarrotxa Ă©s on s’han trobat mĂ©s espècies, segurament a causa de l’elevada diversitat d’hĂ bitats i presència de boscos ben conservats. Entre els diferents espais naturals, s’hi ha pogut confirmar connectivitat, sobretot grĂ cies als corredors fluvials amb vegetaciĂł de ribera existents. En general, aquest estudi mostra l’interès dels ratpenats com a bioindicadors de la qualitat del nostre entorn i convida investigadors i gestors a continuar fent campanyes de divulgaciĂł i sensibilitzaciĂłBetween 2001 and 2009, several field studies on bats have been carried out in the Alt EmpordĂ region, especially in protected areas. Besides 300 nights in the field, nine conferences were held, educational material has been edited and dozens of news articles have been published. During this period, 25 species of bats (86% of Catalan species) have been cited.Most species were found in the Albera mountain range and the Alta Garrotxa region, surely because of their elevated diversity of habitats and the presence of wellconserved forests. A connection between the different natural parks has been confirmed thanks to the river corridors and their vegetation. In general, this study is interested in bats as bioindicators of environmental quality and invites researchers and managers to continue outreach and awareness campaigns
2PI effective action for gauge theories: Renormalization
We discuss the application of two-particle-irreducible (2PI) functional
techniques to gauge theories, focusing on the issue of non-perturbative
renormalization. In particular, we show how to renormalize the photon and
fermion propagators of QED obtained from a systematic loop expansion of the 2PI
effective action. At any finite order, this implies introducing new
counterterms as compared to the usual ones in perturbation theory. We show that
these new counterterms are consistent with the 2PI Ward identities and are
systematically of higher order than the approximation order, which guarantees
the convergence of the approximation scheme. Our analysis can be applied to any
theory with linearly realized gauge symmetry. This is for instance the case of

Ultracold atomic quantum gases far from equilibrium
We calculate the time evolution of a far-from-equilibrium initial state of a
non-relativistic ultracold Bose gas in one spatial dimension. The
non-perturbative approximation scheme is based on a systematic expansion of the
two-particle irreducible effective action in powers of the inverse number of
field components. This yields dynamic equations which contain direct
scattering, memory and off-shell effects that are not captured in mean-field
