Athenian Black Gloss Pottery: A View from the West
Excavation of archaic Morgantina (c.700–450 BC), Sicily, has brought to light a significant pattern in the distribution of imported Greek pottery. This pattern, which shows a preference for imports with features that referred to metal vessels, is echoed at sites around the western Mediterranean. We argue that the preference for certain types was communicated back to Greek producers, and that it also reflects the particular local interests of non-Greeks, who associated metallic features not only with wealth, but also with their own ancestral traditions
Licenciamento ambiental em números: uma comparação entre as UHEs Santo Antônio, Jirau e Belo Monte
This work presents a diagnosis of the environmental licensing procedure of the Hydropower Plants (HPPs) of Santo Antônio, Jirau and Belo Monte. Understanding the differences between how the law foresees the procedure and how it works in a practical order is relevant to not only gather data on this subject, and identify the licensing procedure bottlenecks, but mainly to have empirical information that can subsidy future proposals to change the legislation currently in force. To do that, it was selected four parameters to guide the diagnosis for the environmental licensing procedure: the observance of the environmental constraints foresaw in the environmental license, the penalties applied against the project developer, the judicial actions against the project developer and the environmental institution as well asthe observance of the Authorization for Vegetation Suppression purposes. These parameters where chosen because they were quantifiable, which allows a comparable metrics to analyze the information. Despite the observance of the licensing procedure as foresaw by law, the practical results is that the environmental obligations are not being properly respected. Monitoring and controlling are not enough to hold the project developers accountable for their environmental obligations.

Positive Parenting: Babies and Toddlers Group-Based Parental Interventions
Early childhood development is increasingly recognized as a key public issue. Parenting
interventions form an important evidence-based strategy to foster infant-toddler
cognitive and language skills, motor and socio-emotional development and adaptive
behavior. This systematic review investigated the effectiveness of group-based parenting
interventions focused on families with children about 0-2 years old, living in
vulnerable populations. As well as children development assessments, parenting skills,
attitudes and knowledge were examined as outcomes. A range of databases were
systematically searched and randomized trials and quasi-experimental approaches included.
Fourteen studies with 4,082 parents of babies and toddlers, in nine countries,
reported findings which favored interventions on a range of parenting measures and
children outcomes, though some studies show mixed results. There is a great heterogeneity
in terms of the length of the intervention, the qualifications requires for
the instructors and the program components that accompany the group intervention.
Thus, it is crucial to assess the cost of each intervention to evaluate the feasibility of
its implementation in a developing country with scarce resources. Most of the studies
included lacked this cost analysis

Images of reality: Iris Murdoch's five ways from art to religion
Art plays a significant role in Iris Murdoch’s moral philosophy, a major part of which may be interpreted as a proposal for the revision of religious belief. In this paper, I identify within Murdoch’s philosophical writings five distinct but related ways in which great art can assist moral/religious belief and practice: art can reveal to us “the world as we were never able so clearly to see it before”; this revelatory capacity provides us with evidence for the existence of the Good, a metaphor for a transcendent reality of which God was also a symbol; art is a “hall of reflection” in which “everything under the sun can be examined and considered”; art provides us with an analogue for the way in which we should try to perceive our world; and art enables us to transcend our selfish concerns. I consider three possible objections: that Murdoch’s theory is not applicable to all forms of art; that the meaning of works of art is often ambiguous; and that there is disagreement about what constitutes a great work of art. I argue that none of these objections are decisive, and that all forms of art have at least the potential to furnish us with important tools for developing the insight required to live a moral/religious life
ARCABOUÇO ESTRATIGRÁFICO NEÓGENO-QUATERNÁRIO DA PORÇÃO OESTE DA BACIA DO SOLIMÕES, AMAZÔNIA OCIDENTAL : Neogene-Quaternary stratigraphic framework of the western portion of the Solimões Basin, Western Amazon
The stratigraphic context of the western Solimões Basin, in the border area between Brazil, Peru, and Colombia, was based on nine (9) wells (P1 to P9) from the Alto Solimões Carvão Project. With the geological data (well logging) and geophysical data (Gamma Rays, Resistivity, and Spontaneous Potential) was elaborated the geological section A-A’, with SW-NE direction and about 400 km of extension, where was defined the thicknesses and boundaries of Solimões (Miocene-Pliocene) and Içá (Pliocene-Pleistocene) formations and the Quaternary Deposits. The Solimões Formation, exhibits lateral continuity in the P1 to P9 and 332 meters thickness, being comprised by pelites and sandstones interbedded, with limestone, lignites and subordinate conglomerates, that exhibit patterns of thinning, thickening and interdigitation. The Içá Formation occurs in the eastern portion of the section, being predominantly sandy, with rare intercalations of pelitos and lignites and thickness varying between 30 to 55m, covered by thin Quaternary deposits, composed by sand and mud (silt and clay), with a thickness of up to 16 meters. Geophysical profiles provided electrofacies patterns and, together with lithological data, allowed the individualization of stratigraphic limits and internal lithofacies, which were correlated in the analyzed profiles.O contexto estratigráfico da porção oeste da Bacia do Solimões, na zona limítrofe entre Brasil, Peru e Colômbia, foi elaborado com base em dados de 9 logs de sondagem (P1 a P9) do Projeto Carvão no Alto Solimões.
The role of nutraceutical medications in men with non bacterial chronic prostatitis and chronic pelvic pain syndrome: A prospective non blinded study utilizing flower pollen extracts versus bioflavonoids
Introduction: Chronic prostatitis (CP)/chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CPPS) represents a challenge for the urologist, since the therapeutic efficacy does not always result in a satisfactory quality of life for the patients. Often the side effects of the medications used (antiinflammatories, antibiotics, alpha blockers) far outweighs the benefits gained with their admission. The choice of nutraceutical medications is preferred for their effectiveness, that has been accepted and proven by the scientific community, and for the low incidence of side effects. The objective of this study to compare the therapeutic efficacy of the flower pollen extracts (Deprox®) versus Bioflavonoids in terms of reduction of symptoms, and in the average waiting time of the variation of the National Institute of Health Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index (NIH-CPSI), and to evaluate the quality of life improvement of the patients affected by CP/CPPS.
Methods: Among the 68 patients presented with prostatic symptoms to the Hospital “Umberto I” in Rome, Italy between March 2016 and June 2016, 54 patients met the clinical diagnosis of CP/CPPS (class IIIa or IIIb according to the NIH classification). The patients were assigned to either treatment with Deprox® or quercetin based on a randomization scheme previously determined. The NIH- CPSI, IPSS, QoL questionnaires were administered. Every patient underwent bacterial cultures and trans-rectal ultrasound.
Results: There was a statistically significant improvement of the NIH-CPSI score and QoL in the Deprox® group (p = < 0.0001 and p = 0.003 respectively). The average waiting time of the variation of the National Institute of Health Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index (NIH-CPSI) was statistically significant (p = 0.0019). In the absence of efficacy of the “conventional” medications, which also carries significant side effects, the dietary supplements may represent a valid alternative.
Conclusions: DEPROX® has demonstrated a significant improvement of the symptoms and quality of life of patients diagnosed with by CP/CPPS. Furthermore, there was a statistical difference in the average waiting time of the variation of the NIH-CPSI) score without side effects as compared to the bioflavonoids complex with quercetin
Communication in health: a new time
The interface between the fields of health and communication brings together a wide diversity of topics, perspectives and articulations between academic production (scientific content) and its dissemination to the public (health journalism). The development and convergence of communication technologies, the progressive mediatization of society and institutions, the new generation of readers and their ways of consuming health content are some of the examples of the various issues addressed in health communication. The aim of this article is to reflect on the relationship between media and health and its current importance in the production and dissemination of contents, in light of the new information and communication technologies, producing efficient and credible information, directed to different audiences.Fiocruz MS, Fundacao Oswaldo Cruz, Inst Comunicacao Informacao Cient & Tecnol Saude, ICICT, Rio De Janeiro, RJ, BrazilESPM, CIC, Sao Paulo, SP, BrazilUniv Estacio Sa, Rio De Janeiro, RJ, BrazilGNT, Rio De Janeiro, RJ, BrazilEuvejo Com Br, Sao Paulo, SP, BrazilUniv Fed Sao Paulo, Escola Paulista Med, Setor Med Adolescente, Sao Paulo, SP, BrazilUniv Estadual Campinas, UNICAMP, Campinas, SP, BrazilUniv Guarulhos, UNG, Guarulhos, SP, BrazilUniv Sao Paulo, Fac Med, Dept Molestias Infecciosas & Parasitarias, Sao Paulo, SP, BrazilCRN3, Conselho Reg Nutr Regiao 3a, Comissao Et, Sao Paulo, SP, BrazilUniv Sao Paulo, Inst Psicol, Programa Posgrad Psicol Clin, Sao Paulo, SP, BrazilUNIFEB, Fundacao Educ Barretos, Barretos, SP, BrazilUniv Sao Paulo, Fac Med, Dept Pediat, Sao Paulo, SP, BrazilCEPPAN, Clin Estudos & Pesquisas Psicanalise Anorexia & B, Sao Paulo, SP, BrazilUniv Sao Paulo, Fac Med, Inst Coracao InCor, Sao Paulo, SP, BrazilUniv Fed Sao Paulo, UNIFESP, Sao Paulo, SP, BrazilUniv Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo, SP, BrazilESPM, Sao Paulo, SP, BrazilUniv Presbiteriana Mackenzie, Sao Paulo, SP, BrazilPUC, Sao Paulo, SP, BrazilUniv Metodista Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo, SP, BrazilUniv Sao Paulo, ECA, Sao Paulo, SP, BrazilEPM, Sao Paulo, SP, BrazilUniv Pantheon Sorbonne, Paris, FranceGen Assembly NYC, New York, NY USAUniv Fed Sao Paulo, Escola Paulista Med, Setor Med Adolescente, Sao Paulo, SP, BrazilUniv Fed Sao Paulo, UNIFESP, Sao Paulo, SP, BrazilUniv Fed São Paulo, EPM, Sao Paulo, SP, BrazilWeb of Scienc
