Single neutral heavy lepton production at electron-muon colliders
New heavy Majorana and Dirac neutrinos production at future electron-muon
colliders are investigated. The production of a single heavy neutrino is shown
to be more relevant than pair production when comparing cross sections and
neutrino mass ranges. The process is studied including on-shell and off-shell heavy neutrino
effects. Distributions are calculated including hadronization effects and
experimental cuts that suppress background, in order to have a clear signal for
heavy neutral leptons.Comment: 4 pages, 14 jpg figures, Published Phys.Lett B494 (2000) 273-27
The “montado”: determinant factor affecting the carcass characteristics and the quality of dry cured hams of Alentejano pig
The objective of this study was to assess the effect of the finishing system (under montanheira or with commercial feed) on carcass characteristics and dry cured-ham of Alentejano pigs.
24 pigs were fattening until 130 kg LW under montanheira and 24 pigs were fattening with commercial feed.
Carcasses of pigs fattened under the montanheira system were slightly heavy (98,38 vs
96,13 kg), with significantly higher (P>0,01) dressing percentage (79,55% vs 78,11%), backfat thickness (6,09 vs 5,34 cm), percentage of fatty cuts (32,06% vs 30,44%) and weight (21,92 vs 19,77 kg) and percentage of adipose tissue (51,65% vs 47,71%). Percentage of lean cuts (50,03% vs 49,07%), bone cuts (19,53% vs 18,87%), weight (14,91 vs 13,77 kg) and percentage of lean (36,04% vs 32,54%), lean:bone (3,21 vs 3,01) and lean:fat (0,76 vs 0,63) ratios were significantly higher in pigs fed commercial feed. The content of ether extract in lean+fat was significantly higher (63,7% vs 60,41%), in pigs fattened under the montanheira system, while the content of crude protein (7,57% vs 8,41%) was significantly higher in pigs fed commercial feed. Energy retained was higher in pigs finished under montanheira (231,7 vs 217,0 Mcal).
The dry cured hams from pigs fattened on acorns were more mono-unsaturated and less poly-unsaturated, especially on subcutaneous fat. It can be concluded that the fattening on pasture and acorns under the oak canopy is considered to be crucial for the quality of the raw material and meat products, as dry cured-ham
Thermodynamic Comparison and the Ideal Glass Transition of A Monatomic Systems Modeled as an Antiferromagnetic Ising Model on Husimi and Cubic Recursive Lattices of the Same Coordination Number
Two kinds of recursive lattices with the same coordination number but
different unit cells (2-D square and 3-D cube) are constructed and the
antiferromagnetic Ising model is solved exactly on them to study the stable and
metastable states. The Ising model with multi-particle interactions is designed
to represent a monatomic system or an alloy. Two solutions of the model exhibit
the crystallization of liquid, and the ideal glass transition of supercooled
liquid respectively. Based on the solutions, the thermodynamics on both
lattices was examined. In particular, the free energy, energy, and entropy of
the ideal glass, supercooled liquid, crystal, and liquid state of the model on
each lattice were calculated and compared with each other. Interactions between
particles farther away than the nearest neighbor distance are taken into
consideration. The two lattices show comparable properties on the transition
temperatures and the thermodynamic behaviors, which proves that both of them
are practical to describe the regular 3-D case, while the different effects of
the unit types are still obvious.Comment: 27 pages, 13 figure
Spontaneous parity violation and minimal Higgs models
In this paper we present a model for the spontaneous breaking of parity with
two Higgs doublets and two neutral Higgs singlets which are even and odd under
D-parity. The condition can be satisfied without introducing
bidoublets and it is induced by the breaking of D-parity through the vacuum
expectation value of the odd Higgs singlet. Examples of left-right symmetric
and mirror fermions models in grand unified theories are presented.Comment: Revised version. Accepted in Eur. Phys. Journal
Statistical mechanics of random two-player games
Using methods from the statistical mechanics of disordered systems we analyze
the properties of bimatrix games with random payoffs in the limit where the
number of pure strategies of each player tends to infinity. We analytically
calculate quantities such as the number of equilibrium points, the expected
payoff, and the fraction of strategies played with non-zero probability as a
function of the correlation between the payoff matrices of both players and
compare the results with numerical simulations.Comment: 16 pages, 6 figures, for further information see

as cultivares: Cobrançosa, Madurai e Verdeal Transmontana.
No Verão seguinte à
partir do segundo ano.
baixo do solo.
The muon g-2 in a SU(7) left-right symmetric model with mirror fermions
We have studied a left-right symmetric model with mirror fermions based in a
grand unified SU(7) model in order to account for the muon anomaly. The Higgs
sector of the model contains two Higgs doublets and the hierarchy condition
can be achieved by using two additional Higgs
singlets, one even and other odd under
-parity. We show that there is a wide range of values for the
mass parameters of the model that is consistent with the lepton
anomalies.
Radiative correction to the mass of the ordinary fermions are shown to be
small
Partial derivative automata formalized in Coq
In this paper we present a computer assisted proof of the correctness of a partial derivative automata construction from a regular expression within the Coq proof assistant. This proof is part of a for- malization of Kleene algebra and regular languages in Coq towards their usage in program certification.Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT)

The British Influence in the Birth of Spanish Sport
Sports started to gain relevance in Spain around the end of the nineteenth century and the beginning of the twentieth century as a leisure and health option of the upper classes imported from Britain. Its early development was intertwined with the spread of other kinds of physical activities with much more tradition on the continent: gymnastics and physical education. First played by the ruling classes – aristocracy and high bourgeoisie – sports permeated towards petty bourgeoisie and middle classes in urban areas such as Madrid, Barcelona, San Sebastián and Santander. This pattern meant that the expansion of sports was unavoidably tied to the degree of industrialisation and cultural modernisation of the country. Since 1910, and mainly during the 1920s, sport grew in popularity as a spectacle and, toa much lesser degree, as a practice among the Spanish population
Long-lived oscillons from asymmetric bubbles
The possibility that extremely long-lived, time-dependent, and localized
field configurations (``oscillons'') arise during the collapse of asymmetrical
bubbles in 2+1 dimensional phi^4 models is investigated. It is found that
oscillons can develop from a large spectrum of elliptically deformed bubbles.
Moreover, we provide numerical evidence that such oscillons are: a) circularly
symmetric; and b) linearly stable against small arbitrary radial and angular
perturbations. The latter is based on a dynamical approach designed to
investigate the stability of nonintegrable time-dependent configurations that
is capable of probing slowly-growing instabilities not seen through the usual
``spectral'' method.Comment: RevTeX 4, 9 pages, 11 figures. Revised version with a new approach to
