Decoupling of heavy quarks in HQET

    Get PDF
Decoupling of c-quark loops in b-quark HQET is considered. The decoupling coefficients for the HQET heavy-quark field and the heavy-light quark current are calculated with the three-loop accuracy. The last result can be used to improve the accuracy of extracting f_B from HQET lattice simulations (without c-quark loops). The decoupling coefficient for the flavour-nonsinglet QCD current with n antisymmetrized gamma-matrices is also obtained at three loops; the result for the tensor current (n=2) is new.Comment: JHEP3 documentclass; the results in a computer-readable form can be found at http://www-ttp.physik.uni-karlsruhe.de/Progdata/ttp06/ttp06-25/ V2: a few typos corrected, a few minor text improvements, a few references added; V3: several typos in formulas fixe

Morphometric parameters of clavicles among adult Black people in Tanzania

    Get PDF
Morphological clavicular variation has been studied extensively by orthopaedic surgeons, anatomic and forensic experts to explain developmental,  gender and age-related differences. The design of fixation devices for displaced clavicular fracture management depends largely on anatomic  characteristics of clavicle. Eighty-one unpaired clavicles of unknown sex were studied, 42 clavicles were of right side and 39 clavicles of left side. All the clavicles were collected from adult cadavers which were dissected in Departments of Anatomy at Muhimbili and Herbert Kairuki Memorial  Universities. The length of clavicle was measured by a vernier calliper; the middle point of this length was taken as the point where midclavicular circumference was measured with the help of a measuring thread and the angle of curvature of clavicle was measured by using protractors. The  average lengths of the left and right clavicles were 15.23±1.12 cm and 15.43±1.01cm respectively. The average medial angle of curvature of left  clavicle was 155.33° ± 4.39°and that of right clavicle was 153.40° ± 3.96°. The mean total angle of curvature of left clavicle was 293.54˚± 9.55°and the average total angle of curvature of right clavicle was 290.05±8.94°. The average midclavicular circumference of left clavicle was 3.88cm ± 0.33cm and  that of right clavicle was 3.94cm±0.33cm. The right clavicle was longer than the left clavicle, the average medial angle of curvature of left clavicle was greater than medial angle of right clavicle, the average lateral angle of curvature of left clavicle was more than the average lateral angle of  curvature of right clavicle and the mean of midclavicular circumference of right clavicle was greater than that of left clavicle. A new species of flea beetle genus Phyllotreta Chevrolat, 1836 (P. sholaksori new species) is described from shores of saline lakes in Southwestern Siberia. It is compared with species with which it was collected as well as with species comprising a group to which it belongs (P. araxicola Jablokoff-Khnzorian, 1968, P. astrachanica Lopatin, 1977, P. atra Fabricius, 1775, P. balcanica Heikertinger, 1909, P. cruciferae Goeze, 1777, and P. diademata Fourdas, 1860). All these species are illustrated and included in the key

This paper is a detailed description of an algorithm based on a generalized Buchberger algorithm for constructing Groebner-type bases associated with polynomials of shift operators. The algorithm is used for calculating Feynman integrals and has proven itself efficient in several complicated cases.Comment: LaTeX, 9 page

The ‘Blueprint’ framework for career management skills: a critical exploration

    Get PDF
This article examines the Blueprint framework for career management skills as it has been revealed across sequential implementations in the USA, Canada and Australia. It is argued that despite its lack of an empirical basis, the framework forms a useful and innovative means through which career theory, practice and policy can be connected. The framework comprises both core elements (learning areas, learning model and levels) and contextual elements (resources, community of practice, service delivery approach and policy connection). Each of these elements is explored

Interpreting Helioseismic Structure Inversion Results of Solar Active Regions

Helioseismic techniques such as ring-diagram analysis have often been used to determine the subsurface structural differences between solar active and quiet regions. Results obtained by inverting the frequency differences between the regions are usually interpreted as the sound-speed differences between them. These in turn are used as a measure of temperature and magnetic-field strength differences between the two regions. In this paper we first show that the "sound-speed" difference obtained from inversions is actually a combination of sound-speed difference and a magnetic component. Hence, the inversion result is not directly related to the thermal structure. Next, using solar models that include magnetic fields, we develop a formulation to use the inversion results to infer the differences in the magnetic and thermal structures between active and quiet regions. We then apply our technique to existing structure inversion results for different pairs of active and quiet regions. We find that the effect of magnetic fields is strongest in a shallow region above 0.985R_sun and that the strengths of magnetic-field effects at the surface and in the deeper (r < 0.98R_sun) layers are inversely related, i.e., the stronger the surface magnetic field the smaller the magnetic effects in the deeper layers, and vice versa. We also find that the magnetic effects in the deeper layers are the strongest in the quiet regions, consistent with the fact that these are basically regions with weakest magnetic fields at the surface. Because the quiet regions were selected to precede or follow their companion active regions, the results could have implications about the evolution of magnetic fields under active regions.Comment: Accepted for publication in Solar Physic

    Get PDF
The aim of our study was to determine the degree of sensitization to Alternaria alternata in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and perennial allergic rhinitis (PAR), and evaluate the effectiveness of SIT in patients sensitized to Alternaria alternata. Material and Methods: All patients were divided into two groups. Group 1 included 130 patients (53 women and 77 men) with COPD aged from 24 to 50 years. Group 2 included 162 patients (90 women and 72 men) with PAR aged from 15 to 46 years. The allergen-specific IgE to fungi of the genera: Alternaria alternata, Aspergillus fumigatus, and Penicillinum notatum, as well as the allergen-specific serum IgG antibodies to Alt a 1 of Alternaria alternata were determined. To perform subcutaneous SIT, we used purified major Alt a 1 allergen of Alternaria alternate. Results: Our study showed that specific IgE antibodies to Alt a 1 were found in 38% and 44.6% patients with COPD and PAR, respectively. Allergen-specific immunotherapy (SIT) induced the IgG response against Alt a 1. The concentration of specific IgG antibodies to Alt a 1 increased approximately 8-fold in COPD patients and 15-fold in PAR patients after 8 months of treatment

Introduction : Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) results from Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). it is now a pandemic that affects us all. For patients referring to the addiction care systems, this pandemic can create additional vulnerabilities. A great deal of effort has made to re-organize the care systems for patients with addiction. Our study focuses on the voice of our patients, on clues to adapt treatment, and on the impact of the pandemic on the therapeutic alliance. Methods : A qualitative design was used to develop a description and understanding of general and clinically relevant aspects of the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Fifteen addicted patients (11 under treatment and 4 in recovery) were interviewed by 4 interviewers according to the COREQ (consolidated criteria for reporting qualitative research). Results : COVID-19 has had a serious impact on thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Interviewees shared their anxieties about their health and the health of their relatives. Frightening thoughts were associated with a range of negative feelings and behaviors, such as stress, anger, avoidance, and isolation. The use of psychoactive substances differed between the patients in treatment with those who are in stable recovery. In the former, all succeeded in staying abstinent. They have experienced that solidarity and connectedness were essential in sustaining their recovery. Those still in treatment were fighting against the temptation to start using again; they felt emotionally isolated and sometimes patronized by health care workers. Conclusion : The elaboration of the interviewees on the therapeutic relationship provides promising clues to optimize that relationship. Remembering this common expression, “we are all in this together,” shared decision making could very well be used to shape effective and receptive treatment interventions during the different challenges faced at different stages of the COVID-19 epidemic.Publisher PDFPeer reviewe
