High Temperature Dielectric Properties Of Calcium Zirconate

    Get PDF
The electrical properties of dense, high purity CaZrO3 discs, sintered at 1380°C with and without added ZrO2, were investigated up to 950°C. Dielectric constant, loss tangent, and electrical conductivity were measured from 25 to 725°C, and the real and imaginary impedances were measured between 800 and 950°C by impedance spectroscopy techniques. Dielectric constant increased by 8% above 300°C and loss tangent increased from.1% at 25°C to ∼2% above 300°C. Activation energy of electrical conductivity determined between 300°C and 950°C by alternative current (AC) and direct current (DC) measurements. These results indicate that CaZrO3 could be a useful dielectric material for capacitor applications up to 500°C. A reported decrease in conductivity due to addition of excess ZrO2 into stoichiometric CaZrO3 could not be confirmed

E-cadherin can limit the transforming properties of activating β-catenin mutations

Wnt pathway deregulation is a common characteristic of many cancers. But only Colorectal Cancer predominantly harbours mutations in APC, whereas other cancer types (hepatocellular carcinoma, solid pseudopapillary tumours of pancreas) have activating mutations in β-catenin (CTNNB1). We have compared the dynamics and the potency of β-catenin mutations in vivo. Within the murine small intestine (SI), an activating mutation of β-catenin took much longer to achieve a Wnt deregulation and acquire a crypt-progenitor-cell (CPC) phenotype than Apc or Gsk3 loss. Within the colon, a single activating mutation of β-catenin was unable to drive Wnt deregulation or induce the CPC phenotype. This ability of β-catenin mutation to differentially transform the SI versus the colon correlated with significantly higher expression of the β-catenin binding partner E-cadherin. This increased expression is associated with a higher number of E-cadherin:β-catenin complexes at the membrane. Reduction of E-cadherin synergised with an activating mutation of β-catenin so there was now a rapid CPC phenotype within the colon and SI. Thus there is a threshold of β-catenin that is required to drive transformation and E-cadherin can act as a buffer to prevent β-catenin accumulation

Improving Inertial Sensor-Based Activity Recognition in Neurological Populations

    Get PDF
Inertial sensor-based human activity recognition (HAR) has a range of healthcare applications as it can indicate the overall health status or functional capabilities of people with impaired mobility. Typically, artificial intelligence models achieve high recognition accuracies when trained with rich and diverse inertial datasets. However, obtaining such datasets may not be feasible in neurological populations due to, e.g., impaired patient mobility to perform many daily activities. This study proposes a novel framework to overcome the challenge of creating rich and diverse datasets for HAR in neurological populations. The framework produces images from numerical inertial time-series data (initial state) and then artificially augments the number of produced images (enhanced state) to achieve a larger dataset. Here, we used convolutional neural network (CNN) architectures by utilizing image input. In addition, CNN enables transfer learning which enables limited datasets to benefit from models that are trained with big data. Initially, two benchmarked public datasets were used to verify the framework. Afterward, the approach was tested in limited local datasets of healthy subjects (HS), Parkinson’s disease (PD) population, and stroke survivors (SS) to further investigate validity. The experimental results show that when data augmentation is applied, recognition accuracies have been increased in HS, SS, and PD by 25.6%, 21.4%, and 5.8%, respectively, compared to the no data augmentation state. In addition, data augmentation contributes to better detection of stair ascent and stair descent by 39.1% and 18.0%, respectively, in limited local datasets. Findings also suggest that CNN architectures that have a small number of deep layers can achieve high accuracy. The implication of this study has the potential to reduce the burden on participants and researchers where limited datasets are accrued

Mode-division multiplexed transmission with inline few-mode fiber amplifier

    Get PDF
We demonstrate mode-division multiplexed WDM transmission over 50-km of few-mode fiber using the fiber\u27s LP01 and two degenerate LP11 modes. A few-mode EDFA is used to boost the power of the output signal before a few-mode coherent receiver. A 6x6 time-domain MIMO equalizer is used to recover the transmitted data. We also experimentally characterize the 50-km few-mode fiber and the few-mode EDFA

Pembuatan Batik Dengan Teknik Pewarnaan Colet Sebagai Upaya Pelestarian Budaya dan Pemberdayaan Masyarakat

    Get PDF
Batik comes from the root word 'tik' which means dot. Basically, batik means dotted, while batik means to make dots. In Javanese, dots are called cecek, which is an important part of batik. Batik is an intangible cultural heritage that has been designated by UNESCO since 2009. Therefore, efforts are needed to develop batik in people's lives. One effort that can be made to preserve culture is to modify and maintain the existence of that culture. The aim of this batik training is to improve the economy of the Dukuh Simo community because in the batik training the training participants directly practice how to make batik using the dabbing technique. This training directly involved the Dukuh Simo community, consisting of PKK women. In this research the author used a qualitative descriptive approach. Data collection techniques used are observation, interviews, and documentation. It is hoped that the results of this research will increase the knowledge and economy of residents and ensure that batik remains a culture that has been preserved for generations

The visual object tracking VOT2016 challenge results

    Get PDF
The Visual Object Tracking challenge VOT2016 aims at comparing short-term single-object visual trackers that do not apply pre-learned models of object appearance. Results of 70 trackers are presented, with a large number of trackers being published at major computer vision conferences and journals in the recent years. The number of tested state-of-the-art trackers makes the VOT 2016 the largest and most challenging benchmark on short-term tracking to date. For each participating tracker, a short description is provided in the Appendix. The VOT2016 goes beyond its predecessors by (i) introducing a new semi-automatic ground truth bounding box annotation methodology and (ii) extending the evaluation system with the no-reset experiment. The dataset, the evaluation kit as well as the results are publicly available at the challenge website (http: //votchallenge.net)

The Thermal Infrared Visual Object Tracking challenge 2015, VOT-TIR2015, aims at comparing short-term single-object visual trackers that work on thermal infrared (TIR) sequences and do not apply pre-learned models of object appearance. VOT-TIR2015 is the first benchmark on short-term tracking in TIR sequences. Results of 24 trackers are presented. For each participating tracker, a short description is provided in the appendix. The VOT-TIR2015 challenge is based on the VOT2013 challenge, but introduces the following novelties: (i) the newly collected LTIR (Link - ping TIR) dataset is used, (ii) the VOT2013 attributes are adapted to TIR data, (iii) the evaluation is performed using insights gained during VOT2013 and VOT2014 and is similar to VOT2015

Global quieting of high-frequency seismic noise due to COVID-19 pandemic lockdown measures

    Get PDF
Human activity causes vibrations that propagate into the ground as high-frequency seismic waves. Measures to mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic caused widespread changes in human activity, leading to a months-long reduction in seismic noise of up to 50%. The 2020 seismic noise quiet period is the longest and most prominent global anthropogenic seismic noise reduction on record. While the reduction is strongest at surface seismometers in populated areas, this seismic quiescence extends for many kilometers radially and hundreds of meters in depth. This provides an opportunity to detect subtle signals from subsurface seismic sources that would have been concealed in noisier times and to benchmark sources of anthropogenic noise. A strong correlation between seismic noise and independent measurements of human mobility suggests that seismology provides an absolute, real-time estimate of population dynamics
