High-temperature quantum oscillations caused by recurring Bloch states in graphene superlattices

Cyclotron motion of charge carriers in metals and semiconductors leads to Landau quantization and magneto-oscillatory behavior in their properties. Cryogenic temperatures are usually required to observe these oscillations. We show that graphene superlattices support a different type of quantum oscillations that do not rely on Landau quantization. The oscillations are extremely robust and persist well above room temperature in magnetic fields of only a few T. We attribute this phenomenon to repetitive changes in the electronic structure of superlattices such that charge carriers experience effectively no magnetic field at simple fractions of the flux quantum per superlattice unit cell. Our work points at unexplored physics in Hofstadter butterfly systems at high temperatures

A method to measure the resonance transitions between the gravitationally bound quantum states of neutrons in the GRANIT spectrometer

We present a method to measure the resonance transitions between the gravitationally bound quantum states of neutrons in the GRANIT spectrometer. The purpose of GRANIT is to improve the accuracy of measurement of the quantum states parameters by several orders of magnitude, taking advantage of long storage of Ultracold neutrons at specula trajectories. The transitions could be excited using a periodic spatial variation of a magnetic field gradient. If the frequency of such a perturbation (in the frame of a moving neutron) coincides with a resonance frequency defined by the energy difference of two quantum states, the transition probability will sharply increase. The GRANIT experiment is motivated by searches for short-range interactions (in particular spin-dependent interactions), by studying the interaction of a quantum system with a gravitational field, by searches for extensions of the Standard model, by the unique possibility to check the equivalence principle for an object in a quantum state and by studying various quantum optics phenomena

The article provides an analysis of the features of the legal regulation of copyright protection and the control of the distribution of the prohibited content on the Internet. Copyright violation and distribution of the prohibited content are considered by the author as two sides of the same problem – the illegal use of information on the Internet. Despite the close attention received from legislators, law enforcers, Internet-based businessmen, journalists, bloggers and regular users of Internet resources, the amount of whom is becoming larger from year to year, this problem still remains unsolved up to date, so the urgency of development of its legislative solution is unquestionable. The objective of the work presented is to seek effective legal regulation of Internet relations connected to the protection of authors' rights and the fight against the distribution of illegal (hazardous) content. In order to achieve this objective the author analyses the Russian legislative framework, refers to international and foreign experience and views the positions of representatives of various sciences related to the Internet, especially legal scholars and political scientists. Various categories of Internet-based information, which are regulated under the Russian legal system, are considered in this article. The potential of existing technologies to restrict access to Internet resources is analyzed. The results of the study of different views on the mentioned problems are presented, and solutions for their resolution are offered, which is of scientific and social interest. The scientific novelty and relevance of the study are that in order to address the problem of copyright control and the distribution of illegal content on the Internet, it proposes an integrated approach, combining legislative restriction of access to relevant information with opening an active dialog with the Internet community and business in the area of Internet communications. © 2018, by ASERS®Publishing. METHOD OF DISCUSSION IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING

    No full text
Discussion is a complex, multifaceted phenomenon. It can be seen as a science, as an art, as an essential element of everyday communication or as a mechanism of getting knowledge and for making certain decisions, and as a way to resolve conflicts. Thus, the method of discussion in English language teaching seems to be of the greatest importance. Especially through the fact that many students seem the necessity to ground their ideas with arguments as very difficult. The purpose of the study is to provide versatile and objective examination, comparison and analysis of the difficulties of forming skills of discussion at the foreign language lessons at school. In the mainstream of modern education there is a need for students to master the skills of discussion. Learning reasoned speech is possible by integrating problem-based learning into the educational process. Learning the skills of argumentation is successfully implemented in teaching students reasoning. The experiment was attended by secondary school students aged 10-12 with a total of 120 pupils, including 54 boys and 66 girls. Two groups with the same level of foreign language competence (pre-interm) were investigated – one method of discussion is systematically implemented, the second – once a week. The first is taught with the correct standards of discussions, its different types, the second is with spontaneous discussion. Input testing for both groups recorded approximately similar speaking skills (evaluated on a single scale). Output testing showed an increase in the quality of speaking in the first group and maintaining the same level in the second. Moreover, the first group began to write different types of essays more qualitatively, the essential feature of which is the ability to justify their point of view. The findings indicate that students need theoretical knowledge in the essence of discussion. The effectiveness of the method is proved not only by the qualitative increase in the ability to speak, but also by improving the motivation of students to communicate. On the basis of the studies the conclusion was made that teaching how to express ideas and find solutions teachers should create a favorable learning and educational environment, which implies considerable flexibility in determining the goals, taking into account the personal interests and individual characteristics of a foreign language learner and creating prerequisites for greater independence and activity of learning. In the process of language learning, students are put in a situation of choice, an appeal to personal experience, feelings and emotions is used, which encourages them to express their own opinion and assessment, makes them think independently and draw conclusions. As a result of the discussion method, the desire to use the language in communication increases significantly, allowing to overcome the fear of speaking. According to the received feedback, the students appreciated the parallel formation of the skills of correct discussion, as allowing to realize most adequately the purpose of communication

The purpose of this article is determining the sociocultural features of adjustment of Chinese students to study in Russian universities. The expansion of bilateral economic relationship between Russia and China has led to a growing interest of Chinese young people towards receiving higher education in Russian universities. Simplified procedure of admission of foreign students leads to complication of their cultural adjustment to a new sociocultural environment. The article presents the results of sociological survey of Chinese students studying in the technical university. It is concluded that the transition of a foreign student to a new society is accompanied by culture shock. Symptoms of culture shock and phases of cultural adjustment process are highlighted in the present article on the bases of K.Oberg methodology. According to U-curve cultural adjustment model proposed by Lysgaard S., the adapting person overcomes three main phases: initial adjustment, crisis state, and final adjustment. The analysis of the conducted survey has confirmed that adjustment to a new culture takes place according to the U-curve by Lysgaard. Determination of ways to solve the problem of foreign students' adjustment to study in Russian universities is associated by the author with the identification of sociocultural characteristics of a specific country. It is revealed that the peculiarities of adjustment of Chinese students to study in Russian universities include sociocultural, psychological, and didactic features. In this connection, it is necessary to determine the extent of the impact of these characteristics on the adjustment process of Chinese students. © 2017

This paper studies the efficiency of the impact of oil price, key interest rate and inflation on the exchange rates in the Russian Federation. The authors researched the effect of oil prices and other economic variables on the currency rate of dollar to ruble. The regression model has accurately shown this interrelation. The impact of macroeconomic variables and close interrelation between the exchange rate of dollar to ruble and oil prices is revealed. Oil price is a dominating factor in a exchange rate mechanism in Russia. When world oil prices are stabilized and sanctions are cancelled, currency fluctuations and uncertainty will be minimized. The monetary policy of Russian Central bank is to become less rigid, but focused on decrease of the inflation rate and on stabilization of national currency rate
