Superconducting density of states at the border of an amorphous thin film grown by focused-ion-beam
We present very low temperature Scanning Tunneling Microscopy and
Spectroscopy (STM/S) measurements of a W based amorphous thin film grown with
focused-ion-beam. In particular, we address the superconducting properties
close to the border, where the thickness of the superconducting film decreases,
and the Au substrate emerges. When approaching the Au substrate, the
superconducting tunneling conductance strongly increases around the Fermi
level, and the quasiparticle peaks do not significantly change its position.
Under magnetic fields, the vortex lattice is observed, with vortices positioned
very close to the Au substrate.Comment: To appear in Journal of Physics: Conference serie
Relationship between physical fitness and mental heath in primary school children.
ABSTRACT
There is scientific evidence that physical fitness is a biological marker of health. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between physical fitness and state weight with mental health in primary school children from the southeast of Span. An cross sectional design was implemented, evaluating handgrip strength, explosive lower body strength, aerobic capacity and speed-agility through ALPHA-fitness test battery of a sample of 214 students between 8 and 11 years. The analysis of simple variance showed that physical fitness and state weight is not associated significantly with the mental health. The results indicate that physical fitness and state weight is not a differentiator of mental health in school children from the southeast of Spain.

Magnetic and superconducting phase diagrams in ErNi2B2C
We present measurements of the superconducting upper critical field Hc2(T)
and the magnetic phase diagram of the superconductor ErNi2B2C made with a
scanning tunneling microscope (STM). The magnetic field was applied in the
basal plane of the tetragonal crystal structure. We have found large gapless
regions in the superconducting phase diagram of ErNi2B2C, extending between
different magnetic transitions. A close correlation between magnetic
transitions and Hc2(T) is found, showing that superconductivity is strongly
linked to magnetism.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
Scanning tunneling spectroscopy of layers of superconducting 2H-TaSe: Evidence for a zero bias anomaly in single layers
We report a characterization of surfaces of the dichalcogenide TaSe using
scanning tunneling microscopy and spectroscopy (STM/S) at 150 mK. When the top
layer has the 2H structure and the layer immediately below the 1T structure, we
find a singular spatial dependence of the tunneling conductance below 1 K,
changing from a zero bias peak on top of Se atoms to a gap in between Se atoms.
The zero bias peak is additionally modulated by the commensurate charge density wave of 2H-TaSe. Multilayers of 2H-TaSe show a
spatially homogeneous superconducting gap with a critical temperature also of 1
K. We discuss possible origins for the peculiar tunneling conductance in single
layers.Comment: 10 pages, 10 figure
Comparative Life Cycle Assessment of gypsum plasterboard and a new kind of bio-based epoxy composite containing different natural fibers
[DE] A comparative LCA from cradle to grave between traditional plasterboard, for drywall applications, and different composite boards, made by natural fiber and a bio-based epoxy resin (Supersap CLR), was carried out. The goal of the study was to determine whether the composites based on such a resin combined with natural fibers could be an eco-friendly alternative to plasterboard in the building sector.
Moreover, the impacts related to each of the fibers used are also assessed separately from cradle to gate in order to get a better understanding of its influence. Both the results obtained through the IPC. GWP 100a method and the recipe endpoint show a remarkable difference between the plasterboard and all the different composites, the composites offering a 50% reduction in the CO2 emissions. The calculations performed regarding the impacts related to the different fibers showed only small differences between them. The authors gratefully thank the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness, for funding the project BIA2013-41537-R (BIAEFIREMAT 'Development of new sustainable eco-materials and building systems for the building industry, based on the use of residues and renewable raw materials'). Subsurface bending and reorientation of tilted vortex lattices in bulk isotropic superconductors due to Coulomb-like repulsion at the surface
We study vortex lattices (VLs) in superconducting weak-pinning platelet-like single crystals of β-Bi2Pd in tilted magnetic fields with a scanning tunneling microscope. We show that vortices exit the sample perpendicular to the surface and are thus bent beneath the surface. The structure and orientation of the tilted VLs in the bulk are, for large tilt angles, strongly affected by Coulomb-type intervortex repulsion at the surface due to stray magnetic fieldsThe authors are grateful to P. C. Canfield for discussions, for having proposed the growth of single crystals of β-Bi2 Pd, and for having shown how to do that.
