The Infra-Red Bands of Hydrogen Peroxide at lambda9720 and the Structure and Torsional Oscillation of Hydrogen Peroxide

    Get PDF
A high dispersion study of the OH bands of hydrogen peroxide in the photographic infra-red is described. The rotational structure of the two hybrid bands at 10,283.68 cm^—1 and 10,291.08 cm^—1 is analyzed. The small moment of inertia of hydrogen peroxide is found to be 2.786 × 10^—40 g cm^2 while the harmonic mean of the two larger moments of inertia is found to be approximately 33.9 × 10^—40 g cm^2. The planar cis-configuration is ruled out spectroscopically and it is concluded that hydrogen peroxide exists in a non-planar form. It is tentatively decided that the vibrational levels of hydrogen peroxide are doubled and that the double minimum potential associated with the internal rotation of the OH groups has a high and a low barrie

Electro-impulse de-icing testing analysis and design

    Get PDF
Electro-Impulse De-Icing (EIDI) is a method of ice removal by sharp blows delivered by a transient electromagnetic field. Detailed results are given for studies of the electrodynamic phenomena. Structural dynamic tests and computations are described. Also reported are ten sets of tests at NASA's Icing Research Tunnel and flight tests by NASA and Cessna Aircraft Company. Fabrication of system components are described and illustrated. Fatigue and electromagnetic interference tests are reported. Here, the necessary information for the design of an EIDI system for aircraft is provided

Loan loss reserves and bank stock returns: Evidence from Asian banks

    Get PDF
This study examines the effects of the loan-loss-reserves-to-gross-loans ratio, a proxy for credit risk, on bank stock returns for a sample of 42 listed Asian banks during the period 1999-2007. By applying a panel data analysis that includes a control for market returns, book-to-market ratio, size, and country-specific factors, the results show that the ratio has a negative and significant influence on bank stock returns. Overall, the results suggest that credit risk remains a major threat to Asian banks. In addition, while loan loss reserves are needed for mitigating credit risk, investors do not consider them as good news or a credible signal concerning bank intentions to resolve problem loans

A Vacuum Spectrograph for the Infra-Red

    Get PDF
A description is given of a 1-meter focus vacuum grating spectrometer for the infra-red which is distinguished by its versatility and compactness of design. The vacuum container is tubular in form and all optical parts are mounted on a carriage which is readily retractable from the case for adjustment. A novel feature is the use of a sine screw drive which gives a linear wave-length scale. A representative spectrum tracing is given

High Altitude Venus Operations Concept Trajectory Design, Modeling and Simulation

    Get PDF
A trajectory design and analysis that describes aerocapture, entry, descent, and inflation of manned and unmanned High Altitude Venus Operation Concept (HAVOC) lighter-than-air missions is presented. Mission motivation, concept of operations, and notional entry vehicle designs are presented. The initial trajectory design space is analyzed and discussed before investigating specific trajectories that are deemed representative of a feasible Venus mission. Under the project assumptions, while the high-mass crewed mission will require further research into aerodynamic decelerator technology, it was determined that the unmanned robotic mission is feasible using current technology

    Weak Interaction Studies with 6He

    Get PDF
The 6He nucleus is an ideal candidate to study the weak interaction. To this end we have built a high-intensity source of 6He delivering ~10^10 atoms/s to experiments. Taking full advantage of that available intensity we have performed a high-precision measurement of the 6He half-life that directly probes the axial part of the nuclear Hamiltonian. Currently, we are preparing a measurement of the beta-neutrino angular correlation in 6He beta decay that will allow to search for new physics beyond the Standard Model in the form of tensor currents.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, proceedings for the Eleventh Conference on the Intersections of Particle and Nuclear Physics (CIPANP 2012
