Isotopic and Microstructural Analyses of Opaque Mineral Assemblages and Their Alteration Products Hosted in a Refractory Inclusion

Get PDF
Calcium-aluminum-rich inclusions (CAIs) hosted in primitive meteorites are the oldest solids formed in the Solar System. Some CAIs contain metal nuggets that are complex assemblages of Fe-Ni alloys, along with rare ultra-refractory metals such as platinum group elements (PGEs), and their alteration products such as magnetite, sulfides, and phosphates. Three possible mechanisms proposed to explain the origin of these metal nuggets include condensation in circumstellar settings, condensation in the solar nebula within the CAI-forming region, or crystallization from immiscible metal-silicate melt. However, secondary alteration processes may have also affected some of these assemblages. Additionally, similar metal assemblages observed in chondrules and chondritic matrix indicate that all of these metal nuggets could share common high-temperature origins. These metal assemblages record early Solar System conditions that are reflected in their distinctive chemical composition, mineralogy and microstructures. Here we report a detailed mineralogical, microstructural and oxygen isotopic study of one such metal assemblage hosted in a CAI to understand the physical and chemical settings in which it formed

Two-scale asymptotic homogenization in a MEMS auxetic structure for over etch identification

The development and optimization of Micro electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) devices, due to their small size scale, require testing and precise characterization. As an example, over etch, which is the deviation between the designed masks and the effective dimensions of the suspended parts, strongly influences the performances of MEMS; therefore, to predict the correct functioning of the device its actual value must be carefully identified. In this work, we propose an efficient, time-saving tool to identify fabrication imperfections in MEMS devices. In particular, we replace the complex geometry of a MEMS mechanical filter with an equivalent homogeneous medium, whose linear-elastic effective properties are evaluated employing two-scale asymptotic homogenization and we identify the over etch by minimizing the relative error between experimental data and corresponding predictions obtained for different combinations of over etch

Introduction: In electronic health records (EHRs), standardized nursing terminologies (SNTs), such as nursing diagnoses (NDs), are needed to demonstrate the impact of nursing care on patient outcomes. Unfortunately, the use of NDs is not common in clinical practice, especially in surgical settings, and is rarely included in EHRs. Objective(s): The aim of the study was to describe the prevalence and trend of NDs in a hospital surgical setting by also analyzing the relationship between NDs and hospital outcomes. Methods: A retrospective study was conducted. All adult inpatients consecutively admitted to one of the 15 surgical inpatient units of an Italian university hospital across 1 year were included. Data, including the Professional Assessment Instrument and the Hospital Discharge Register, were collected retrospectively from the hospital's EHRs. Results: The sample included 5,027 surgical inpatients. There was a mean of 6.3 ± 4.3 NDs per patient. The average distribution of NDs showed a stable trend throughout the year. The most representative NANDA-I ND domain was safety/protection. The total number of NDs on admission was significantly higher for patient whose length of stay was longer. A statistically significant correlation was observed between the number of NDs on admission and the number of intra-hospital patient transfers. Additionally, the mean number of NDs on admission was higher for patients who were later transferred to an intensive care unit compared to those who were not transferred. Conclusion: NDs represent the key to understanding the contribution of nurses in the surgical setting. NDs collected upon admission can represent a prognostic factor related to the hospital's key outcomes

Medan is part of North Sumatra Province. The prevalence of undernutrition and malnutrition in Medan in 2013 was 19.3%, consisting of 4.2% malnutrition and 15.1% malnutrition. The prevalence rate is close to the national figure, which is 19.6%. Based on the 2015 MDGs target, the prevalence of malnutrition and children under five is 15.5%, this prevalence rate is included in the high category. The method used in this community service is counseling, demonstration and measurement of nutritional status. held on 6, 12 and 24 February 2020 in Rugemuk Village. The result of the service, namely counseling was carried out 3 times. It was conducted once at the Puskesmas Rugemuk Village, 2 times at the Posyandu Hamlet 1 and Hamlet III in Rugemuk Village, Pantai Labu District. From the results of the intervention and observations made, there are several children in Rugemuk Village whose nutritional status is less. Counseling is not only carried out at the Posyandu, but also students conduct counseling at the Rugemuk Village Health Center, Dusun II. Participants seemed satisfied with the holding of nutrition counseling with the theme according to the counseling target. Participants seemed enthusiastic when participating in nutrition counseling activities for each target group. The conclusion in this service is that intervention activities carried out to solve problems are counseling to the community as well as data collection and measurement of height and weight in children. All activities are carried out well and smoothly, outreach to the community as well as data collection and measurement of children's height and weight

This paper presents the study of the mechanical behavior of a microstructure designed to detect acceleration and angular velocity simultaneously. The new resonant micro-sensor proposed, fabricated by the ThELMA© surface-micromachining technique, bases detection of two components of external acceleration (one in-plane component and one out-of plane component) and two components of angular velocity (roll and yaw) on the variation of frequency of several elements set in resonance. The device, despite its small dimensions, provides a differential decoupled detection of four external quantities thanks to the presence of four slender beams resonating in bending and four torsional resonators

Get PDF
Aims: To describe the prevalence of nursing diagnoses on admission among inpatient units and medical diagnoses and to analyse the relationship of nursing diagnoses to patient characteristics and hospital outcomes. Background: Nursing diagnoses classify patients according to nursing dependency and can be a measure of nursing complexity. Knowledge regarding the prevalence of nursing diagnoses on admission and their relationship with hospital outcomes is lacking. Design: Prospective observational study. Methods: Data were collected for 6 months in 2014 in four inpatient units of an Italian hospital using a nursing information system and the hospital discharge register. Nursing diagnoses with prevalence higher or equal to 20% were considered as ‘high frequency.’ Nursing diagnoses with statistically significant relationships with either higher mortality or length of stay were considered as ‘high risk.’ The high-frequency/high-risk category of nursing diagnoses was identified. Results: The sample included 2283 patients. A mean of 4\ub75 nursing diagnoses per patient was identified; this number showed a statistically significant difference among inpatient units and medical diagnoses. Six nursing diagnoses were classified as high frequency/high risk. Nursing diagnoses were not correlated with patient gender and age. A statistically significant perfect linear association (Spearman's correlation coefficient) was observed between the number of nursing diagnoses and both the length of stay and the mortality rate. Conclusion: Nursing complexity, as described by nursing diagnoses, was shown to be associated with length of stay and mortality. These results should be confirmed after considering other variables through multivariate analyses. The concept of high-frequency/high-risk nursing diagnoses should be expanded in further studies

Self-induced parametric amplification arising from nonlinear elastic coupling in a micromechanical resonating disk gyroscope

Get PDF
Parametric amplification, resulting from intentionally varying a parameter in a resonator at twice its resonant frequency, has been successfully employed to increase the sensitivity of many micro- and nano-scale sensors. Here, we introduce the concept of self-induced parametric amplification, which arises naturally from nonlinear elastic coupling between the degenerate vibration modes in a micromechanical disk-resonator, and is not externally applied. The device functions as a gyroscope wherein angular rotation is detected from Coriolis coupling of elastic vibration energy from a driven vibration mode into a second degenerate sensing mode. While nonlinear elasticity in silicon resonators is extremely weak, in this high quality-factor device, ppm-level nonlinear elastic effects result in an order-of-magnitude increase in the observed sensitivity to Coriolis force relative to linear theory. Perfect degeneracy of the primary and secondary vibration modes is achieved through electrostatic frequency tuning, which also enables the phase and frequency of the parametric coupling to be varied, and we show that the resulting phase and frequency dependence of the amplification follow the theory of parametric resonance. We expect that this phenomenon will be useful for both fundamental studies of dynamic systems with low dissipation and for increasing signal-to-noise ratio in practical applications such as gyroscopes
