Mining structured Petri nets for the visualization of process behavior
Visualization is essential for understanding the models obtained by process mining. Clear and efficient visual representations make the embedded information more accessible and analyzable. This work presents a novel approach for generating process models with structural properties that induce visually friendly layouts. Rather than generating a single model that captures all behaviors, a set of Petri net models is delivered, each one covering a subset of traces of the log. The models are mined by extracting slices of labelled transition systems with specific properties from the complete state space produced by the process logs. In most cases, few Petri nets are sufficient to cover a significant part of the behavior produced by the log.Peer ReviewedPostprint (author's final draft
Histiotus magellanicus (Chiroptera: Vespertilionidae) is not restricted to Subantarctic forests: first record for the Coastal Maulino Forest in central Chile
Te southern Big-Eared Brown Bat, Histiotus magellanicus, is a poorly known vespertilionid occurring only in southern Chile and Argentina, where it appears to be restricted to Valdivian Temperate Forests and Magellanic Subpolar Forests. Here we report the frst record of H. magellanicus in the Maulino Temperate Forest of central Chile, a Mediterranean-climate ecosystem, suggesting that the species might not be exclusive to subantarctic forests, as previously thought. Tis constitutes the northernmost continental record for the species, extending its range ca. 400 km the previous known northern locality.
mujeres
Control of PCNA deubiquitylation in yeast
Eukaryotes ubiquitylate the replication factor PCNA (proliferating-cell nuclear antigen) so that it tolerates DNA damage. Although, in the last few years, the understanding of the evolutionarily conserved mechanism of ubiquitylation of PCNA, and its crucial role in DNA damage tolerance, has progressed impressively, little is known about the deubiquitylation of this sliding clamp in most organisms. In the present review, we will discuss potential molecular mechanisms regulating PCNA deubiquitylation in yeast.Peer reviewe
Biomimetic Ca-P coatings Incorporating bisphosphonates produced on starch-based degradable biomaterials
In this study, sodium clodronate, a well-known therapeutic agent from the family
of bisphosphonates (BPs), is incorporated in a biomimetic calcium phosphate (CaP) coating,
previously formed on the surface of a starch-based biomaterial by a sodium silicate
methodology, as a strategy to develop a site-specific drug delivery system for bone tissue
regeneration applications. The effects on the resulting CaP coatings were evaluated in terms of
morphology, chemistry, and structure. The dissolution of Ca and P from the coating and the
release profiles of sodium clodronate was also assessed. As a preliminary approach, this first
study also aimed at evaluating the effects of this BP on the viability of a human osteoblastic
cell line since there is still little information available on the interaction between BPs and this
type of cells. Sodium clodronate was successfully incorporated, at different doses, in the
structure of a biomimetic CaP layer previously formed by a sodium silicate process. This
type of BPs had a stimulatory effect on osteoblastic activity, particularly at the specific
concentration of 0.32 mg/mL. It is foreseen that these coatings can, for instances, be
produced on the surface of degradable polymers and then used for regulating the
equilibrium on osteoblastic/osteoclastic activity, leading to a controlled regenerative effect
at the interface between the biomaterial and bone
Siete pacientes (70%) no presentaban dolor. Seis pacientes (60%) no precisaban tratamiento médico. Chronic low back pain is a medical cause of disability in which conservative management is often not effective. As an alternative, interbody fusion with cylinders offers several advantages as compared to other surgical methods of fusion. This technique has been recently introduced in our Country. The preliminary results of 16 patients managed in our Department are shown. From 1997 to December 2000, eleven BAK devices and 5 LIFEC have been implanted. Ten patients had a minimum follow-up of 1 year and these constitute the series evaluated. Seven patients (70%) were free of pain. Four patients (40%) returned to their previous job. Six patients (60%) did not need medical treatment. The good results with this technique encourage us and suggest that these devices are a valid option for the management of chronic low back pain
Patients who have unicompartimental knee osteoarthritis can be manager by different surgical techniques. Young people are usually treated by tibial osteotomy and elderly people by total knee replacement. Unicondylar knee prosthesis is becoming an attractive recognized alternative. After a period of enthusiastic regarding this technique, scepticism took place based on the clinical results. The aim of this study is to evaluate, in firs instance, a new knee unicondylar knee prosthesis design (Alpine, IQL) following clinical criteria and quality of life. Thirteen patients, managed in between June 2000 and March 2002, are reviewed. Seven were males and six females. The mean age was 65 years (range 55-77 years). Osteoarthritis was the aetiology in twelve cases and necrosis of the medial condyle in one patient. The clinical evaluation was based on quality of life through a questionnaire SF-12. All patients improved a knee flexion of 110º and a complete extension. Only one patient had slight pain and had some limitation

Monitoring dynamics of human adenovirus disassembly induced by mechanical fatigue
The standard pathway for virus infection of eukaryotic cells requires disassembly of the viral shell to
facilitate release of the viral genome into the host cell. Here we use mechanical fatigue, well below rupture
strength, to induce stepwise disruption of individual human adenovirus particles under physiological
conditions, and simultaneously monitor disassembly in real time. Our data show the sequence of
dismantling events in individual mature (infectious) and immature (noninfectious) virions, starting with
consecutive release of vertex structures followed by capsid cracking and core exposure. Further, our
experiments demonstrate that vertex resilience depends inextricably on maturation, and establish the
relevance of penton vacancies as seeding loci for virus shell disruption. The mechanical fatigue disruption
route recapitulates the adenovirus disassembly pathway in vivo, as well as the stability differences between
mature and immature virionsWe acknowledge funding by grants from the Ministry of Science and Innovation of Spain,
