The result of this research showed that the business activities carried out by the college students were grouped into five clusters. They were: a) agriculture, b) livestock, c) fashion, d) handicraft, and e) culinary. Referring to the clusters, the businessmen among college students did some important steps to get advantages. One of the important steps was mapping the conditions in each of the categories. The mapping is directed on the particular segments based on lifestyles, such as: business enterprising types, resident types, social types, and entertainer types. The strategic steps were in the form of series of the stages of the program or activity which were determined by SWOT analysis. Through this analysis, it is expected that the businessmen could hold and determine the competitive advantage so that they could be the leader in the market. Moreover, it also occurred on the businesses which were implemented by young businessmen from the educational institution. By involving the micro, small enterprise businessmen, the experts, and the local government officials, this research obtained someimportant data or input in formulating marketing strategies to enhance the competition of the businesses of the micro, small enterprise. This research used qualitative and quantitative approaches. The data collecting techniques were filling the questionnaire, conducting depth interview, and doing FGD. The businessmenamong the college students had strengths on the non-physical aspects such as motivation and independence. In addition, the problems on the relationship which had existed so far between suppliers and customers or consumers could also be the strength forthe businessmen among the college students. However, the college students also hadweaknesses. The weaknesseswere in the form of the minimal capital, the simple business management issues, and the current infrastructures to process the production. The college students felt that the campus wasavery potential market. Moreover, their market shareon products was also relatively high compared to the competitors in the market insidethe campus. In addition, the opportunities which were seen by the businessmen were: a) competition at campus couldrelatively be overcome by them, b) the support of government agencies and the campus itself, and c) the consultancy assistance of the campus due to the businesses which was carried out. Furthermore, the conditionwhich complicates their business development was about the problem of competitionon condition that the products would be soldespecially in markets outside the campus.KEY WORDSClusters, Segmentation, Strategy, Competition

The application of approaches in foreign language learning has become related to the learning process in recent years. Genre-based approach is an approach in language learning that focuses on the understanding and production of texts based on genres and is commonly used for learning writing skills. This study aims to describe the results of thematic literature review on the effect of Genre-based approach on the development of learners\u27 writing performance, the challenges faced by teachers and learners in the implementation of Genre-based approach, and learners\u27 perspectives on genre-based approach for foreign language writing skills. This research uses a thematic literature review method by reviewing scientific research articles related to the topic discussed. The articles were selected through Google Scholar and Researchgate channels in the last 5 years since this research was conducted with 30 articles that met the set criteria. The results of this study found that the Genre Based approach to foreign language writing skills has a positive influence in improving writing performance and motivating writing for learners. However, in its implementation, there are challenges in that it takes a lot of time, teachers are less adaptable so that in some cases the results achieved donā€™t show significant changes. &nbsp

Auxin-inducible degron technology allows rapid and controlled protein depletion. However, basal degradation without auxin and inefficient auxin-inducible depletion have limited its utility. We have identified a potent auxin-inducible degron system composed of auxin receptor F-box protein AtAFB2 and short degron minilAA7. The system showed minimal basal degradation and enabled rapid auxin-inducible depletion of endogenous human transmembrane, cytoplasmic and nuclear proteins in 1 h with robust functional phenotypes.Peer reviewe

Coming from behind to win - A Qualitative research about psychological conditions of adolescents who have undergone open-heart surgery for single ventricle between the ages 0-5

Early recognition of congenital cardiac pathologies and their treatment by means of palliative or corrective surgery at birth or infancy has vital importance. Successful repair of congenital cardiac defects by surgical methods has gained importance especially during the last twenty years. As the scope of the surveillance increased so did the interest in the outcomes of these treatments when the patients had reached puberty and adulthood. The purpose of our research was to study the psychological framework of the adolescents who had experienced these surgeries by listening both the children and the parents talk about their feelings and experiences. Our data was accumulated through interviews with 17 adolescents and their families, using qualitative methods. The main theme at the end of the analysis was "to be strong and resistive". We reached the conclusion that this condition was not a pathological build up but an attitude of coping, as it did not cause loss of functionality. The defensive psychological mechanisms used by these adolescents consisted of repression, compensation and reaction formation. We believe that this information is important to understand the real meaning of the manners displayed when these adolescents and their families pursue their daily lives, communicate and make relationships with their environment and especially professionals in the health services

    Reconnecting with nature for sustainability

Calls for humanity to ā€˜reconnect to natureā€™ have grown increasingly louder from both scholars and civil society. Yet, there is relatively little coherence about what reconnecting to nature means, why it should happen and how it can be achieved. We present a conceptual framework to organise existing literature and direct future research on humanā€“nature connections. Five types of connections to nature are identified: material, experiential, cognitive, emotional, and philosophical. These various types have been presented as causes, consequences, or treatments of social and environmental problems. From this conceptual base, we discuss how reconnecting people with nature can function as a treatment for the global environmental crisis. Adopting a socialā€“ecological systems perspective, we draw upon the emerging concept of ā€˜leverage pointsā€™ā€”places in complex systems to intervene to generate changeā€”and explore examples of how actions to reconnect people with nature can help transform society towards sustainability

Habitat Assessment of Non-Wadeable Rivers in Michigan

Habitat evaluation of wadeable streams based on accepted protocols provides a rapid and widely used adjunct to biological assessment. However, little effort has been devoted to habitat evaluation in non-wadeable rivers, where it is likely that protocols will differ and field logistics will be more challenging. We developed and tested a non-wadeable habitat index (NWHI) for rivers of Michigan, where non-wadeable rivers were defined as those of order ā‰„5, drainage area ā‰„1600 km 2 , mainstem lengths ā‰„100 km, and mean annual discharge ā‰„15 m 3 /s. This identified 22 candidate rivers that ranged in length from 103 to 825 km and in drainage area from 1620 to 16,860 km 2 . We measured 171 individual habitat variables over 2-km reaches at 35 locations on 14 rivers during 2000ā€“2002, where mean wetted width was found to range from 32 to 185 m and mean thalweg depth from 0.8 to 8.3 m. We used correlation and principal components analysis to reduce the number of variables, and examined the spatial pattern of retained variables to exclude any that appeared to reflect spatial location rather than reach condition, resulting in 12 variables to be considered in the habitat index. The proposed NWHI included seven variables: riparian width, large woody debris, aquatic vegetation, bottom deposition, bank stability, thalweg substrate, and off-channel habitat. These variables were included because of their statistical association with independently derived measures of human disturbance in the riparian zone and the catchment, and because they are considered important in other habitat protocols or to the ecology of large rivers. Five variables were excluded because they were primarily related to river size rather than anthropogenic disturbance. This index correlated strongly with indices of disturbance based on the riparian (adjusted R 2 = 0.62) and the catchment (adjusted R 2 = 0.50), and distinguished the 35 river reaches into the categories of poor (2), fair (19), good (13), and excellent (1). Habitat variables retained in the NWHI differ from several used in wadeable streams, and place greater emphasis on known characteristic features of larger rivers.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/41269/1/267_2004_Article_141.pd
