On quantization of quadratic Poisson structures

Any classical r-matrix on the Lie algebra of linear operators on a real vector space V gives rise to a quadratic Poisson structure on V which admits a deformation quantization stemming from the construction of V. Drinfel'd. We exhibit in this article an example of quadratic Poisson structure which does not arise this way.Comment: Submitted to Comm. Math. Phys. Version 2 : error in introduction correcte

A bio-inspired image coder with temporal scalability

We present a novel bio-inspired and dynamic coding scheme for static images. Our coder aims at reproducing the main steps of the visual stimulus processing in the mammalian retina taking into account its time behavior. The main novelty of this work is to show how to exploit the time behavior of the retina cells to ensure, in a simple way, scalability and bit allocation. To do so, our main source of inspiration will be the biologically plausible retina model called Virtual Retina. Following a similar structure, our model has two stages. The first stage is an image transform which is performed by the outer layers in the retina. Here it is modelled by filtering the image with a bank of difference of Gaussians with time-delays. The second stage is a time-dependent analog-to-digital conversion which is performed by the inner layers in the retina. Thanks to its conception, our coder enables scalability and bit allocation across time. Also, our decoded images do not show annoying artefacts such as ringing and block effects. As a whole, this article shows how to capture the main properties of a biological system, here the retina, in order to design a new efficient coder.Comment: 12 pages; Advanced Concepts for Intelligent Vision Systems (ACIVS 2011

Self-interference in Multi-tap Channels for Full-Duplex Wireless Systems

    Get PDF
Residual self-interference (SI) is primarily a key challenge when designing In-Band Full-duplex (IBFDX) wireless systems. Channel estimation errors are one of the major causes of residual SI. Consequently, a deeper understanding of the impact of the channel effects on the residual SI becomes indispensable. In this paper, we investigate the influence of multiple taps on the residual SI power of IBFDX systems. We first formulate the effect of having independent taps on the residual SI power mathematically. The derivations take into account the amount of interference cancellation on each tap by considering phase and amplitude estimation coefficients. We conclude that the increase in the number of taps always leads to an additive effect of the residual power. Such findings are shown mathematically and also reported in different results obtained by simulation. Finally, we compare the distribution of the residual SI power with different known distributions, concluding that Weibull and Gamma distributions are the closest ones in terms of accuracy. Uniform regularity for the Navier-Stokes equation with Navier boundary condition

We prove that there exists an interval of time which is uniform in the vanishing viscosity limit and for which the Navier-Stokes equation with Navier boundary condition has a strong solution. This solution is uniformly bounded in a conormal Sobolev space and has only one normal derivative bounded in LL^\infty. This allows to get the vanishing viscosity limit to the incompressible Euler system from a strong compactness argument

Efficient Architecture and Implementation of Vector Median Filter in Co-Design Context

    Get PDF
This work presents an efficient fast parallel architecture of the Vector Median Filter (VMF) using combined hardware/software (HW/SW) implementation. The hardware part of the system is implemented using VHDL language, whereas the software part is developed using C/C++ language. The software part of the embedded system uses the NIOS-II softcore processor and the operating system used is μClinux. The comparison between the software and HW/SW solutions shows that adding a hardware part in the design attempts to speed up the filtering process compared to the software solution. This efficient embedded system implementation can perform well in several image processing applications

Optimization of regeneration and transformation parameters in tomato and improvement of its salinity and drought tolerance

    Get PDF
As part of our efforts to improve tomato tolerance to abiotic stress, we have undertaken this study to introduce two candidate genes encoding: a sodium antiporter and a vacuolar pyrophosphatase, previously shown to enhance drought and salt tolerance in transgenic Arabidopsis plants. First, we evaluated the potential of primary leaves from three to four week-old in vitro-grown tomato seedlings as alternative explants to cotyledons for tomato transformation. Our results demonstrated that primaryleaves are three times more efficient then cotyledons in terms of regeneration percentage, productivity, and transformation frequencies independently of the medium and genetic construct used. Second, primary leaves were used to introduce the genes of interest using Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. Many transgenic tomato plants were easily recovered. The presence of the transgenes and their expression were confirmed by PCR and RT-PCR analysis. The transformation frequencies for primary leaf explants ranged from 4 to 10% depending on the genetic construct used. The time requiredfrom inoculation of primary leaves with Agrobacterium cells to transfer of transgenic tomato plants to soil was only 2 months compared to 3 to 4 months using standard tomato transformation protocols. The transgenic tomato plants obtained in the current study were more tolerant to salinity and drought stress than their wild-type counterparts

The aim of our work is to provide an algorithm support these complications through literature review. Sinusitis the base of the skull (frontal, ethmoid and sphenoid) are more involved in intracranial complications. Orbital sufferers are most often secondary to ethmoidal sinusitis in children and fronto -maxillary adults. The imaging plays an important role in the early and accurate diagnosis of these diseases and to guide treatment. The treatment of sinus home is also good for the systematic orbital or intracranial complications if surgical indication is retained. Orbital complications are treated with antibiotics for the bacteria involved with some surgical indications according to CT scan classification Chandler. The treatment is now more conservative including subperiosteal abscess. Intracranial complications for treatment are based on medical treatment and between other antibiotic. The surgical procedure was done according to the result of imaging The prognosis is currently improved with early diagnosis, and the progress reported in the field of endonasal surgeryKeywords: sinusitis, orbital complications, intracranial complications, imagery, Antibiotic, surger

Introduction: For obvious reasons, athletes are at greater risk of sustaining a lumber (lower) spine injury due to physical activity. To our knowledge, no previous studies have examined the prevalence of low back pain (LBP) in a Tunisian sports and physical education institute.Aim: To assess the prevalence of LBP in different sports among students studying in a sports and physical education institute in Tunisia, to determine the causes of the injuries, and to propose solutions. Methods: A total of 3,379 boys and 2,579 girls were studied. A retrospective cross-sectional survey was conducted on a group of students aged 18.524.5 years at the Higher Institute of Sport and Physical Education of Sfax to estimate the prevalence of LBP and its relation to the type of sports. Data on age, weight, height, smoking, and the sport in which the student was injured in the low back were collected from the institute health service records from 2005 until 2013.Results: LBP was reported by 879 of the 5,958 study participants (14.8%). The prevalence of LBP was significantly higher (pB0.001) in females (17.6%) than in males (12.5%). LBP prevalence did not differ by body mass index or smoking habit (p0.05). The sports associated with the higher rates of LBP were gymnastics, judo, handball, and volleyball, followed by basketball and athletics. Conclusion: LBP is frequent among undergraduate students of a sports and physical education institute in Tunisia. It is strongly associated with fatigue after the long periods of training in different sports. Gymnastics, judo, handball, and volleyball were identified as high-risk sports for causing LBP.Keywords: low back pain; sports students; sports training; risk factor

Numerical Simulation of Thermal Stresses in Prismatic Concrete Beams Reinforced with FRP Bars under Low Temperatures

    Get PDF
The thermal properties of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) bars particularly in the transverse direction are higher than those of hardened concrete and steel bars. The difference in transverse thermal characteristics between FRP bar and concrete generates radial tensile stresses within concrete at the interface of FRP bars/concrete under low temperatures. These thermal stresses may cause circumferential cracks in concrete at the interface and eventually the reduction of the bond that can affect significantly the serviceability of reinforced concrete structures. This paper presents a nonlinear numerical simulation of thermal stresses in prismatic concrete beams reinforced with glass FRP (GFRP) bars submitted to low temperatures when the confining action of concrete is asymmetric. The non linear numerical analysis shows that the first circumferential cracks start to develop within concrete at FRP bar/concrete interface at a temperature decrease DTcr varied between -30°C and -25°C for prismatic concrete beams reinforced with GFRP bars having a ratio of concrete cover thickness to FRP bar diameter (c/db) varied from 1.0 to 3.2. Furthermore, the depths of circumferential cracks propagated from the interface through the concrete cover increase with the decrease of the thermal load DT (from -25 °C to -50 °C). These depths did not reach the outer surface of the concrete cover under low temperatures up to -50 °C. Also, the radial tensile stress at FRP bar/concrete interface increases with the increase in the ratio c/db. The cracking thermal loads and thermal stresses predicted from nonlinear finite element model are compared to those evaluated with analytical models. Comparisons between numerical and analytical results in terms of cracking thermal loads and thermal stresses are presented

On the existence of solutions to the relativistic Euler equations in 2 spacetime dimensions with a vacuum boundary

We prove the existence of a wide class of solutions to the isentropic relativistic Euler equations in 2 spacetime dimensions with an equation of state of the form p=Kρ2p=K\rho^2 that have a fluid vacuum boundary. Near the fluid vacuum boundary, the sound speed for these solutions are monotonically decreasing, approaching zero where the density vanishes. Moreover, the fluid acceleration is finite and bounded away from zero as the fluid vacuum boundary is approached. The existence results of this article also generalize in a straightforward manner to equations of state of the form p=Kργ+1γp=K\rho^\frac{\gamma+1}{\gamma} with γ>0\gamma > 0.Comment: A major revision of the second half of the pape
