High-Valent Pyrazolate-Bridged Platinum Complexes: A Joint Experimental and Theoretical Study
Complexes {Pt(C^C*)(µ-pz)}2] (HC^C*A= 1-(4-(ethoxycarbonyl)phenyl)-3-methyl-1H-imidazol-2-ylidene 1a, HC^C*B= 1-phenyl-3-methyl-1H-imidazol-2-ylidene 1b) react with methyl iodide (MeI) at room temperature in the dark to give compounds {PtIV(C^C*)Me(µ-pz)}2(µ-I)]I (C^C*A2a, C^C*B2b). The reaction of 1a with benzyl bromide (BnBr) in the same conditions afforded Br(C^C*A)PtIII(µ-pz)2PtIII(C^C*A)Bn] (5a), which by heating in BnBr(l) became {PtIV(C^C*A)Bn(µ-pz)}2(µ-Br)]Br (6a). Experimental investigations and density functional theory (DFT) calculations on the mechanisms of these reactions from 1a revealed that they follow a SN2 pathway in the two steps of the double oxidative addition (OA). Based on the DFT investigations, species such as (C^C*A)PtIII(µ-pz)2PtIII(C^C*A)R]X (RX = MeI Int-Me, BnBr Int-Bn) and (C^C*A)PtII(µ-pz)2PtIV(C^C*A)(R)X] (RX = MeI Int'-Me, BnBr Int'-Bn) were proposed as intermediates for the first and the second OA reactions, respectively. In order to put the mechanisms on firmer grounds, Int-Me was prepared as (C^C*A)PtIII(µ-pz)2PtIII(C^C*A)Me]BF4(3a') and used to get I(C^C*A)PtIII(µ-pz)2PtIII(C^C*A)Me](4a), (C^C*A)PtII(µ-pz)2PtIV(C^C*A)(Me)I](Int'-Me), and {PtIV(C^C*)Me(µ-pz)}2(µ-I)]BF4(2a'). The single-crystal X-ray structures of 2a, 2b, 3a', and 5a along with the mono- and bi-dimensional 1H and 195Pt{1H} NMR spectra of all the named species allowed us to compare structural and spectroscopic data for high-valent complexes with the same core {Pt(C^C*)(µ-pz)}2] but different oxidation states. © 2022 American Chemical Society.
Peer Reviewe
Eosinophilic esophagitis, celiac disease, and immunoglobulin E–mediated allergy in a 2-year-old child
This communication was presented at XXVI National
Congress of SEAIC, Spanish Society of Allergology and
Clinical Immunology, Bilbao, Spain, 2008Celiac disease, eosinophilic esophagitis, and urticaria are 3 manifestations of food allergy with different pathogenic mechanisms. We report
the case of a 2-year-old child with digestive symptoms, slow growth, and severe asthma. The results of skin prick tests were positive to
several foods. Endoscopy revealed eosinophilic esophagitis and celiac disease. Treatment consisted of a gluten-free diet and a 1-month
course of oral corticosteroids. Endoscopy and biopsy fi ndings were normal at 5 years of age.
A gluten-free diet is the basis of treatment of celiac disease, but the role of an elimination diet in eosinophilic esophagitis is not well
established. Our patient also developed urticaria when exposed to milk and egg. We present, to our knowledge, the fi rst report of a patient
We have reviewed 25 total knee prosthesis (Endo-Model type, Waldemar-Link) performed
in 23 patients with an age average of 69,5 years-old and a average follow-up of 32 months.
The clinical assessment applied was the AAOS protocol including the parameters of: pain, ability to go
up and down the stairs, to need of sticks, flexion and extension of the joint, before and after the operation.
In the radiological study we have evaluated the correct alignment of the components in two
planes A-P and L, and the periprosthetic lucencies. The results obtained have been satisfying in all the
patients with a diminution of the pain and better function of the joint. No deep infection was observed
and the flexion was better in prosthesis with anterior deviation of the femoral rod in the lateral plane
Paleoseismological evidence of holocene activity of the Los Tollos fault (Murcia, se Spain): a lately formed quaternary tectonic feature of the eastern betic shear zone
The Los Tollos Fault is a recent and important feature of the Eastern Betic Shear Zone, one of the major tectonic structures in South Iberia accommodating the convergence between Nubian and Eurasian plates in the western Mediterranean. The Los Tollos Fault became active by the end of Middle Pleistocene introducing some paleogeographical modifications. Previously mapped as a secondary normal fault related to the Carrascoy Fault, recent research evidences that the Los Tollos Fault is an independent Holocene active left-lateral reverse fault extending for at least 15 km. Data analysis from 4 trenches dug across the fault has revealed the occurrence of at least two paleo-earthquake events during the Holocene. The most recent event is dated between 2,740 and 2,140 yr BP (8th to 2nd centuries BC). The size of the paleoevents is calculated to be Mw 6.3 – 6.6 following empirical regressions on surface rupture length. The recurrence interval is estimated to be between 2,200-6,860 years, fitting a slip rate for the fault between 0.12 and 0.17 mm/yr. Such parameters highlight the Los Tollos Fault as a tectonic structure with a considerable activity located relatively close to densely populated areas. These seismogenic parameters should be considered in future reassessments of the seismic hazard of the regionThis work forms part of the research activities carried out in the FASEGEO Project (CGL2009-09726) funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovatio

Infrared Fluorescent Imaging as a Potent Tool for In Vitro, Ex Vivo and In Vivo Models of Visceral Leishmaniasis
Visceral leishmaniasis (VL) is hypoendemic in the Mediterranean region, where it is caused by the protozoan Leishmania infantum. An effective vaccine for humans is not yet available and the severe side-effects of the drugs in clinical use, linked to the parenteral administration route of most of them, are significant concerns of the current leishmanicidal medicines. New drugs are desperately needed to treat VL and phenotype-based High Throughput Screenings (HTS) appear to be suitable to achieve this goal in the coming years. We generated two infrared fluorescent L. infantum strains, which stably overexpress the IFP 1.4 and iRFP reporter genes and performed comparative studies of their biophotonic properties at both promastigote and amastigote stages. To improve the fluorescence emission of the selected reporter in intracellular amastigotes, we engineered distinct constructs by introducing regulatory sequences of differentially-expressed genes (A2, AMASTIN and HSP70 II). The final strain that carries the iRFP gene under the control of the L. infantum HSP70 II downstream region (DSR), was employed to perform a phenotypic screening of a collection of small molecules by using ex vivo splenocytes from infrared-infected BALB/c mice. In order to further investigate the usefulness of this infrared strain, we monitored an in vivo infection by imaging BALB/c mice in a time-course study of 20 weeks. The near-infrared fluorescent L. infantum strain represents an important step forward in bioimaging research of VL, providing a robust model of phenotypic screening suitable for HTS of small molecule collections in the mammalian parasite stage. Additionally, HSP70 II+L. infantum strain permitted for the first time to monitor an in vivo infection of VL. This finding accelerates the possibility of testing new drugs in preclinical in vivo studies, thus supporting the urgent and challenging drug discovery program against this parasitic diseaseThis research was supported by Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad (www.mineco.gob.es) grants AGL2010-16078/GAN to RBF and CYTED 214RT0482 to RMR; Instituto de Salud Carlos III (www.isciii.es) grants PI12/00104 to RMR and RICET

Twenty-five patients with unilateral displaced joint calcaneus fracture were treated
by cast being the results after 6 years (range: 3-10), excellent in 5 patients, good in 4 patients,
poor in 7 and bad in 9. We excluded for the study the patients with associated local or general
pathology being useful for our study 12 patients. These patients walked on a dynamometric platform
in order to analyse floor reaction forces, proving a diminuí ion of vertical support and takeoff
forces (Fl and F2), and statistically significant a increase of total support phase during gait
