    EFFICIENCY OPTIMIZATION OF AN OPENLOOP CONTROLLED PERMANENT MAGNET SYNCHRONOUS MOTOR DRIVE USING ADAPTIVE NEURAL NETWORKS

    When a Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine (PMSM) is utilized for applications where high dynamic performance is not a requirement, a simple open loop control strategy can be used to control them. PMSMs however are prone to instability when operated open loop in a variable speed drive, particularly at mid-frequencies/speeds. This paper presents an open-loop control strategy based on a direct adaptive neural network controller is developed for efficiency optimization of open-loop controlled PMSM drive. Stability constraints of the drive system which was previously reported are used to maintain both stable and highly efficient operation of the drive system. The adopted neural network can be viewed as a method for nonlinear adaptive system identification, relying on pattern recognition of stability limits and maximum obtainable efficiency. Results from computer simulation show that a stable and highly efficient operation can be maintained for the drive system under study irrespective of load and supply variations. The obtained results are also found in correlation with previously reported experiments and observations

    Kufor-Rakeb syndrome is an autosomal recessive nigro-striatal-pallidal-pyramidal neurodegeneration. The onset is in the teenage years with clinical features of Parkinson’s disease plus spasticity, supranuclear upgaze paresis, and dementia. Brain scans show atrophy of the globus pallidus and pyramids and, later, widespread cerebral atrophy. We report linkage in Kufor- Rakeb syndrome to a 9 cM region of chromosome 1p36 delineated by the markers D1S436 and D1S2843, with a maximum multipoint lod score of 3.6. (J Med Genet 2001;38:680–682

    SummaryBackgroundThe purpose of this study was to determine whether the mucosal expression of interleukin (IL)-23p19 has a role in the pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis, and to determine its relation to disease severity.MethodsThis study was performed on 50 patients with ulcerative colitis and 10 normal individuals as the controls. They were divided into Group I (27 patients with mild to moderate disease), Group II (23 patients with severe disease), and Group III (10 normal individuals). All patients and the controls were subjected to histopathological study, IL-23p19 immunohistochemical staining, IL-23R expression by flow cytometry, and serum IL-23 by enzyme-linked immunoassay.ResultsThere was a significant increase in IL-23p19 gene expression and IL-23R level in patients with ulcerative colitis, compared to the controls. A significant positive correlation was detected between increased expression of the IL-23p19 gene, IL-23R, high serum IL-23, and the severity of the disease.ConclusionIncreased expression of the IL-23p19 gene has a role in the pathogenesis of ulcerative colitis. Targeted therapy directed against IL-23p19 may be effective in its treatment. Increased expression of the IL-23p19 gene and IL-23R with high serum IL-23 is correlated positively with disease severity

    Effect of intracoronary glycoprotein IIb/IIIa inhibitor and manual aspiration thrombectomy on primary percutaneous coronary intervention outcome in high thrombus burden patients

    Background: The opening of a related artery in myocardial infarction as quickly as possible is the key to treating infarct. Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for recanalization of related infarcted arteries is considered the most effective therapy for myocardial infarction.Objective: To estimate the intracoronary delivery of glycoprotein IIb/IIIa following manual thrombus aspiration on outcomes post PCI for patients with high thrombus burden.Patients and Methods: This was a randomized control trial that was conducted on 48 patients presented to Zagazig University Hospital Emergency Cardiac Unit with ST elevation myocardial infarction for primary percutaneous coronary intervention, the need for reperfusion therapy was assessed according the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Guidelines for the management of acute myocardial infarction in patients presenting with ST-segment elevation. Patients were randomized into three groups: (1) Manual aspiration group (16 patients). (2) Manual aspiration with intracoronary glycoprotein IIb/IIIa group (19 patients), and (3) Intracoronary glycoprotein IIb/IIIa group (13 patients).Results: There was significant difference between manual aspiration group, manual aspiration with intracoronary glycoprotein IIb/IIIa group and intracoronary glycoprotein IIb/IIIa group as regard the outcomes in high thrombus burden patients.Conclusion: Combination glycoprotein IIb/IIIa and manual aspiration is better then single modality for high thrombus burden patients

    In order to decrease the time and effort of the software development process and increase the quality of the software product significantly, software engineering required new technologies. Nowadays, most software engineering design is based on reuse of existing system or components. Also, it is become a main development approach for business and commercial systems. The concept of reusability is widely used in order to reduce cost, effort, and time of software development. Reusability also increases the productivity, maintainability, portability, and reliability of the software products. That is the reusable software components are evaluated several times in other systems before. The problems faced by software engineers is not lack of reuse, but lack of widespread, systematic reuse. They know how to do it, but they do it informally. Therefore, strong attention must be given to this concept. This study aims to propose a systematic framework considers the reusability through software life cycle from two sides, build-for-reuse and build-by-reuse. Furthermore, the repository of reusable software components is considered, and the evaluation criteria from both sides are proposed. Finally, an empirical validation is conducted by apply the developed framework on a case study

    Four-Wave Mixing Crosstalk Suppression Based on the Pairing Combinations of Differently Linear-Polarized Optical Signals

    A new approach to suppressing the four-wave mixing (FWM) crosstalk by using the pairing combinations of differently linear-polarized optical signals was investigated. The simulation was conducted using a four-channel system, and the total data rate was 40 Gb/s. A comparative study on the suppression of FWM for existing and suggested techniques was conducted by varying the input power from 2 dBm to 14 dBm. The robustness of the proposed technique was examined with two types of optical fiber, namely, single-mode fiber (SMF) and dispersion-shifted fiber (DSF). The FWM power drastically reduced to less than −68 and −25 dBm at an input power of 14 dBm, when the polarization technique was conducted for SMF and DSF, respectively. With the conventional method, the FWM powers were, respectively, −56 and −20 dBm. The system performance greatly improved with the proposed polarization approach, where the bit error rates (BERs) at the first channel were 2.57×10-40 and 3.47×10-29 at received powers of −4.90 and −13.84 dBm for SMF and DSF, respectively
