    Evaluation Methods for the Measurement of Lower Leg Edema in Healthy Young Adults

    Background: In recent years, objective quantitative evaluations have become particularly important. Both qualitative and quantitative evaluations are also available for edema. It is thought that the technical problem of quantitative evaluation can be solved by using a simple and reproducible method. Several studies have evaluated various methods for measuring edema. Limitations, such as weaknesses, measurement complexity, and errors, have been identified. Therefore, this study aimed to consider a simple and effective measurement method for the quantitative evaluation of edema. Methods: This study was a prospective, observational study. The subjects were 15 healthy adults (2 male and 13 female). Measurements were performed on the subjects’ right lower leg once in the morning and once in the afternoon, with a minimum interval of 4 hours. Results: The actual volume of the lower leg was correlated with all indices except the ultrasonic echo findings for subcutaneous tissue. The intra-subject and inter-subject reliabilities for the indices using digital images were very high. The lower leg volume was greater significantly in the afternoon from the morning. Conclusion: The leg circumference was measured by utilizing a tape, while the width and volume were measured by utilizing digital imaging suitable for quantitatively evaluating edema. Furthermore, swelling of the lower leg with time can occur in the absence of daily exercise.journal articl

    訳出遅延時間と訳出開始タイミングに着目した同時通訳者の原発話追従ストラテジーに関する分析

    In this paper, we will discuss simultaneous interpreters’ strategies for following the source speech. In this research, we conducted a survey of the time delay, aka EVS (ear-voice span), in the translations of simultaneous interpreters, and analyzed the rollback as well as the timing of the start of the interpreter’s translation. We defined the “Interpretation unit” as the summarization of a certain meaning in the context of the source speech, and calculated the timing based on the number of interpretation units (hereinafter the “delayed interpretation unit”) that had not yet been translated by the interpreter during the course of the lecture. In this analysis, we used English-to-Japanese interpretation data that had been stored in the CIAIR simultaneous interpretation database at Nagoya University; specifically, data from two professional interpreters who provided interpreting for the same English lecture. Based on the results of the analysis,we observed that the interpreters could be divided into two types. The first type demonstrates long delay times in translations, with large variance in those delay times. This type often had one or more delayed interpretation units, and the timing of the start of the translation was not uniform. The other type could be characterized as real-time interpretation; that is, the delay times were short, and there were few delayed interpretation units. Through this analysis, we confirmed that there are two different types of strategies when following the original speaker’s utterance in interpreting settings.journal articl

    Measurement for Cable Tensions of Nakatsuno Cable-stayed Bridge by Vibration Method

    Recently, cable-stayed bridges have been constructed for the reasons of economical and aesthetic viewpoints. In the maintenance and management of the cable-stayed bridges, it is important to measure the cable tensions and make sure the safety of the structures by comparing with the designed cable tensions. In this study, the cable tensions of Nakatsuno cable-stayed bridge in Fukui city are measured by applying the vibration method with a 3-axis acceleration sensor module. The effectiveness and usefulness in applying the vibration method are confirmed for maintenance and management of the cable-stayed bridges.departmental bulletin pape

    中学生の抑うつ状態(Depression Self-Rating Scale for Children)におけるコーピングおよびソーシャルサポートについて市部と郡部との比較により,その特徴を明らかにすることを目的として質問紙調査法を実施した。なお,有効回答数(率)は,1,666 名中1,000 名(60.0%)であった。その結果は,以下のとおりである。1.日本版DSRSC における各項目の得点を地域別でみると,18 項目中8 項目に郡部の方が市部よりも得点が有意に高く,抑うつ群の割合が高かった(p<.01)。2.市部の性別・学年別の比較では,男子18.1%よりも女子28.5%と割合が高く(p<.01),また学年進行に伴って抑うつ群が増加していた(p<.01)。一方,郡部では性別・学年別に有意差がなかった。3.コーピングでは,市部に3 因子,郡部に1 因子,標準群と抑うつ群との比較で有意差を認めた(p<.01)が,ソーシャルサポートでは,「父親サポート」を除く,他のサポート項目には地域別の相違はみられなかった。journal articl

    Effects of knee joint taping

    膝関節へのテーピングが,健常成人の下肢の運動機能に及ぼす影響を動作解析装置を用いて評価した。健常成人8名に対して,35cmの段差を踏み上がらせて膝関節90度屈曲位で10秒間静止させた姿勢の関節角度,関節モーメント仕事量を床反力計および三次元動作解析を用いて計測した。関節角度は,股関節・膝関節・足関節ともに有意差を認めなかったが、関節モーメント仕事量は膝関節においてテーピング群が有意に増大した。テーピング貼付時の膝関節の肢位,貼付方法,テープ素材の影響に加え,テープ貼付による皮膚を介した固有感覚受容器を活性化が,関節の安定性向上に寄与した可能性がある。健常人に対する膝関節へのテーピングは,膝関節の安定性と運動能力の向上に寄与するものと考える。The objective of this study was to examine the effects that knee joint taping has on motor functions. In this study we used eight healthy adult subjects.We had the subjects stand still for 10 seconds while they maintained the position of having their hip joint and knee joint being 90 degrees of each other by stepping on a 35cm high box that was on top of a force plate.The workload of the joint moment increased significantly in the knee joints from the taping in the taping group.     The change of range of motion in junior high school baseball players

    経年的な可動域の変化と障害の状況を知る目的で,野球肘検診を実施した.対象は軟式野球部1年生63名とし,肩・肘関節の疼痛の有無を質問し,可動域測定を行った.3年生時も52名を対象として検診を実施し,入学時と比較・検討した.結果,3年生時では肩・肘関節に疼痛を訴える選手が増加していた.肩関節外旋・内旋(2nd)および股関節内旋可動域は有意に減少したが,頚部回旋は有意に増加していた.The purpose of this study was to investigate the change of range of motion in junior high school baseball players. The subjects were 63 new junior high school baseball players belonging to school baseball team. Physical examinations were performed by physical therapists. In the third-year student, 52 players were checked as well. There were statistically less in the third-year student in average external and internal rotation with the arm in 90 degrees of abduction, internal rotation of the hip joint.
