    Histological changes and clinical outcomes after gamma knife surgery

    Gamma knife surgery (GKS) has been increasingly utilized to manage a wide variety of indications including arteriovenous malformations, brain tumors, Parkinson disease, or focal epilepsy. In clinical, practice, GKS is thought to be a safe and effective treatment for these diseases, even if patients are old or at high risk; however, little is understood about the alteration of biological properties induced by gamma irradiation during procedures using this device. In recent studies using animals, it has been shown that low-dose gamma irradiation promotes survival of injured neurons in the central nervous system via homeostasis-driven proliferation of T cells, whereas a high dose causes marked degeneration of the capillary endothelial cells, consequently inducing edema and necrosis in the irradiated area. More recently, GKS has also been employed to treat intractable pain control, such as trigeminal neuralgia, thalamic pain and cancer pain. Some investigators have suggested that gamma irradiation may relieve completely these pains by increasing the levels of β-en-dorphin in both blood and cerebrospinal fluid. Thus, it is very important to conduct further basic experiments to determine the optimal treatment protocol using GKS for various diseases across many fields

    Study on Vibration Propagation Characteristics of Environmental Vibration in the Building Construction

    This paper describes vibration propagation characteristics in the RC building construction by using 4 stories 3 spans prototype model of acrylic resin. We obtain some results of the attenuation of vibration acceleration level from the driving point and distribution of vibration acceletion level in the rooms next door to each other on the upper stories and the same story. We suppose it is important to consider the vibration mode shape of natural frequencies to obtain the attenuation in distance and distribution of vibration acceleration level near by natural frequencies. On the other hand, it is propriety to obtain the attenuation in distance of vibration acceletion level from a viewpoint of enegy flow far from natural frequencies

    Distinctive red colouring used for the vesture of Amitabha Tathagata and Bodhisattva painted on the north wall of Moago Cave 285 was investigated and is reported as follows. The vesture of Amitabha Tathagata and Bodhisattva in all seven sections were painted with red colorants. For the vesture in section 1-6 of the east wall, oxide red, red lead and organic red colorants were used. All the vesture was painted with ferric oxide red colorants in the first paint layer above the ground layer. For the Bodhisattva seen standing to the left of the Amitabha Tathagata, a red lead was painted over the first layer of ferric oxide red. Red lead was used for all the vesture in section 7 at the first paint layer above the ground layer. The central Amitabha Tathagata in section 7 was additionally painted over with vermilion

    低線量肺CT検診車における初期成績

    当センターでは、2005年2月から車載型のマルチスライスCTによる肺癌検診を始めた。今回は、この初期成績を報告する。対象は2007年3月までに低線量肺CT検診を受診した者とし、当センターの人間ドックによるCT検診は含まないこととした。CT装置は日立メディコ社製4列のマルチディテクターを使用し、条件は「低線量CTによる肺癌検診の手引き」に基づき撮影した。読影は遠隔読影システムによるシングル読影で行った。全体で、のべ7,653名受診し、男性4,491名、女性3,162名であった。平均年齢は56.4歳であった。初回受診者は6,106名、経年受診者は1,547名で経年受診率は20%であった。要精検者数は全体で790名、初回受診群は644名、経年受診群は146名であった。要精検率は全体で10.3%、初回受診群10.5%、経年受診群9.4%であった。制度管理ガイドラインによると初回受診8%以下、経年受診で5%以下が望ましいとあり、当センターでは特に経年受診の要精検率が高率である。原因として、遠隔読影システムで読影を行っており、比較読影が困難であることが考えられる。精検受診者数は全体で563名、初回受診は458名、経年受診は105名で、精検受診率は全体で71.3%、初回受診は71.1%、経年受診は71.9%であった。発見癌数は11例で、発見率は0.14%と他の施設と比較しても低率であった。原因として、精検受診率の低値が挙げられ、精検受診率の向上を図らなければならい。今後検診対象者の絞込み、要精検率の改善、精検後の追跡システムと精検施設との連携、施設基準を満たす精密検査施設への勧奨など課題は山積である。journal articl
