Experience with light dynamic penetration in a landslide locality

    Get PDF
Because of vital prevention and redevelopment measures in problem localities affected by slope instability, geotechnical investigations must be carried out. One of the applicable methods is Light Dynamic Penetration (LDP). Although it was designed for easy field investigations in planning line structures to identify parameters, such load bearing capacity, and compactness, its use proves to be much wider. Using LDP it is possible to detect the interfaces between the discrete layers, potential slip surfaces, or groundwater level. However, it is important to note that the results of LDP are always related to one point only and to investigate a whole area, a complementary survey is needed. In the paper we report research where we used a geophysical method of Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT) to validate the results rendered by Light Dynamic Penetration in a redeveloped post-mining locality characteristic of landslides. The results of both measurement methods were unified for better interpretation and clarification to find out whether LDP is suitable to investigate a landslide locality. It shows that LDP provides relevant information on the massif structure in a given locality, but as opposed to other geophysical methods LDP informs only about one point only. The authors thus recommend carrying out surveys in landslide areas combining LDP and ERT as complementary measurements of groundwater level in the openings made using LDP. Mutually combining these two methods, it is possible to obtain a number of valuable information on landslide conditions (depth and course of shear plane, groundwater level, structure of layers, etc.) and physical-mechanical properties of soils

Technika testování založeného na modelu (MBT) využívá model chování systému k automatickému generování sady testů, čímž snižuje nákladnost testování oproti konvenčnímu manuálnímu vývoji a udržbě testů. Využití MBT přístupu vedlo k odhalení pěti nahlášených a tří potencionálních a dosud nehlášených chyb v testovaném kódu. Práce na příkladu shrnuje hlavní přednosti i praktické nedostatky využití MBT technik v praxi.Model-based testing (MBT) is using a model of expected behavior of the system to automatically generate a set of tests. It aims at reducing the testing cost when compared to the traditional testing techniques. This work focuses on testing a real-world software system using the selected MBT tool OSMO. The tested system is responsible for compiling business rules and it is one of the main components of the Drools platform, developed by Red Hat. The work describes the introduction of MBT considering the good reception from the community of developers, then the creation of compiler input models and evaluation of the newly created test suite. The usage of the MBT resulted in detection of five reported and three potential issues in the tested code. Using the Drools compiler example, the work summarizes the main strengths and also weaknesses of practical use of MBT techniques.

The issue of land taxation is currently often neglected in scientific articles despite the existence of the land taxation and property taxes in most countries of the European Union. This paper deals with a specific property tax in the Czech Republic – the tax on the acquisition of immovable property. The aim of the paper is, on the one hand, to characterise the tax on the acquisition of immovable property, its general principles and the classification in land taxation, and on the other hand, to analyse the possibilities of a tax entity for the tax base determination and the tax liability calculation. For this purpose, a model example of taxation of the transfer of immovable property for consideration is used, to which the method of the multi-criteria decision-making is applied as an opportunity to use the mathematical methods for the transactional property tax. Based on the method of the multi-criteria analysis of alternatives, it was found that in the model example, it was more advantageous for the tax entity to use the indicative value.Web of Science62520419

What can tax revenues tell us about the economic activity of regions?

    Get PDF
The main goal of this paper is to provide an analysis of the relationships among selected indicators of economic activity of regions (GDP, unemployment) and regional tax revenues obtained from taxes imposed on economic activity (VAT, income taxation) in the Czech Republic, with a detailed analysis of VAT. Our methodology is based on correlation analysis (both the Pearson’s and the Spearman’s correlation coefficients) using data from the official statistics of the Czech Republic. The main idea of the paper is that regional tax revenues should give us a picture of the economic activity of companies, residents and entrepreneurs in these regions. Based on the results, we can say that there is a statistically significant positive relationship between regional VAT revenues and the value of regional GDP, and a statistically significant negative relationship between regional income taxes revenues and regional unemployment.Web of Science9112811

The role of the value added tax on foodstuffs in the consumer basket

    Get PDF
When looking for economic policy instruments in the times of economic crisis, even tax instruments are considered, particularly the changes (increases) of the value added tax rates. Most of the EU member states have two VAT rates, while foodstuff s and non-alcoholic beverages are included under a reduced rate. If increasing the reduced VAT rate, the signifi cance of the foodstuff or non-alcoholic beverages in the consumer basket, the regression of the VAT in these commodities and the signifi cance of the impact on households should be considered. Th is article tries to point out this issue by analyzing the impacts of changes in the VAT rates, or the actual VAT paid by the average households in the Czech Republic in the period from 2005 to 2010.Web of Science58839538
