    Pre-service teachers’ web pedagogical content knowledge and online information searching strategies

    This study aimed to investigate the relationship between pre-service teachers’ web pedagogical content knowledge and online information searching strategies. In accordance with the aim, the correlational comparative survey method is used. The participants of the study are 220 university students from a faculty of education of a state university. The data of the study is gathered by Turkish versions of “Teachers’ Self-Efficacy toward the Web Pedagogical Content Knowledge Scale” and “Online Information Searching Strategy Inventory”. Canonical correlation analysis is used to determine the relationship between these two scales. As a result of the study, 17.3% common variance is determined between web pedagogical content knowledge and online information searching strategies

    Investigation of individual anxiety levels of sedentary and athletes in the novel coronavirus: Sedanter ve sporcuların yeni tip koronavirüse yakalanmada bireysel kaygı düzeylerinin incelenmesi

    This study aims to examine the anxiety of getting COVID-19 according to different variables in terms of sedentary and athletes. In the study designed with a quantitative model, the Athlete's Anxiety Scale for the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) was used and Pearson Correlation analysis was used with the t-test. 86 active sports athletes and 84 sedentary athletes with licenses in different branches participated in the study. In the study, it was determined that the individual anxiety levels of women were significantly higher in getting COVID-19 compared to men, and sedentary people compared to athletes. It has been determined that the level of anxiety of those who have caught COVID-19 before, in catching COVID-19, is significantly higher than those who have caught this disease. In addition, no significant relationship was found between the age of the participants and individual anxiety. As a result of the research, it can be said that the level of individual anxiety in catching COVID-19 is negatively affected by the state of doing sports. Özet Bu çalışma COVID-19 yakalanma kaygısını sedanter ve sporcular açısından farklı değişkenlere göre incelemeyi amaçlamaktadır. Nicel modelle tasarlanan araştırmada Sporcunun Yeni Koronavirüse (COVID-19) Yakalanma Kaygısı Ölçeği kullanılmış ve t-testi ile Pearson Korelasyon analizinden yararlanılmıştır. Çalışmaya, farklı branşlarda lisansa sahip aktif spor yapan 86 sporcu ve 84 sedanter katıldı. Araştırmda kadınlarrın erkeklere göre, sedanterlerin ise sporculara göre COVID-19’a yakalanmada bireysel kaygı düzeylerinin anlamlı düzeyde yüksek olduğu saptanmıştır. Daha önce COVID-19’a yakalanmayaların, COVID-19’a yakalanmada bireysel kaygı düzeyinin bu hastalığa yakalananlara göre anlamlı düzeyde yüksek olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Ayrıca katılımcıların yaşı ile bireysel kaygı arasında anlamlı bir ilişki saptanmamıştır. Araştırma sonucunda COVID-19’a yakalanmada bireysel kaygı düzeyinin spor yapma durumundan olumsuz etkilendiği söylenebilir

    Firmalar birçok güdü ve nedenlerle halka açılmakta ancak yaşanan olumsuzluklar sebebiyle veya farklı gerekçelerle halka arzdan çekilmektedirler. Halka arzdan çekilme nedenleri, 1991-2013 yılları arasında Borsa İstanbul hisse piyasasından gönüllü olarak çekilen 40 firmada araştırılmıştır. Bulgularımıza göre; (a) firmaların kriz dönemlerinde çekilme sıklığı artmaktadır (b) tecrübeli firmaların çekilme sonrası yeniden başvurma olasılığı yüksektir (c) başarılı aracı kurumlar, çekilme sonrasında yeniden halka arzı cesaretlendirmektedir. Ayrıca (d) çekilme nedenleri ile firmaların yaşı arasında (e) çekilmeler ile satış yöntemi arasında (f) ihraç nedenleri ile halka arz yöntemi arasında ilişki olduğu belirlenmiştir. In 1991-2013, the reasons of delisting volunteer withdrawals are investigated in 40 firms in Borsa Istanbul stock exchange. Our findings are; (a) firms mostly withdraw in economic crisis periods (b) the probability of resubmission is highly probable for firms with experience (c) successful underwriters encourage resubmissions.     Effects of air-polishing powders on color stability of composite resins

    OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of different air-polishing powders on the color stability of different types of composite resin restorative materials. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Thirty cylindrical specimens (15×2 mm) were prepared for each of 7 composite resin restorative materials. All specimens were polished with a series of aluminum oxide polishing discs (Sof-Lex). The prepared specimens of each composite resin were randomly divided into 3 groups of 10 specimens each, for control (Group-C) and two air-powder applications (Group-CP: Cavitron Prophy-Jet; Group-PS: Sirona ProSmile prophylaxis powder). A standard air-polishing unit (ProSmile Handly) was used. All specimens were air-powdered for 10 s at 4-bar pressure. The distance of the spray nosel from the specimens was approximately 10 mm and angulation of the nosel was 90°. Specimens were stored in 100 mL of coffee (Nescafe Classic) for 24 h at 37°C. Color measurement of all specimens was recorded before and after exposure to staining agent with a colorimeter (Minolta CR-300). Color differences (∆E*) between the 2 color measurements (baseline and after 24 h storage) were calculated.     Biochemical characterization of wild-type and mutant (Q9F and S21Y/V22D) iron oxidases isolated from Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans M1

    We would like to thank Karadeniz Technical University Research Foundation (grant no. 1055) for their financial support.Iron oxidase, a member of the high potential iron-sulfur protein (HiPIP) family within the iron-sulfur cluster, was thought to be involved in the iron respiratory electron transport chain in Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans. A. ferrooxidans M1 strain was isolated from Murgul copper mine. The iro gene of this bacterium encoding iron oxidase was cloned, and the complete nucleotide sequence was disclosed. The gene was cloned and overexpressed successfully. The highly conserved amino acid residues within the iron oxidase enzyme sequence were determined, and their Q9F and S21Y/V22D recombinants were created through site-directed mutagenesis. Wild-type and recombinant iron oxidase enzymes were purified and further characterized. The biochemical properties and kinetic parameters of wild-type and mutant enzymes were determined and compared. The optimal temperature of the wild-type enzyme was 25 degrees C, and maximal activity was observed at pH 4.0. The Km and Vmax values of wild-type enzyme were 0.27 +/- 0.09 mM and 0.083 +/- 0.01 mu mol/min/mg protein, respectively. Although the mutant enzymes were almost comparable to wild-type enzyme, their maximal activities moved from pH 4.0 to pH 3.5, and pH stability of S21Y/V22D mutant was improved compared to wild type

    CT Evaluation of the Intraorbital Structures Concerning Endoscopic Approaches to the Lamina Papyracea

    Background: The relationship between the intraorbital structures and medial wall of the orbit is essential for surgical approaches. Objective: The goal was to provide an improved understanding of the dimensions of extraocular muscles and the approximate location of the intraorbital structures with respect to the lamina papyracea (LP). Material and Methods: This retrospective study was performed using the multiplanar reconstruction of Computed Tomography (CT) scans of 200 orbits. Results: We measured the mean diameters of intraorbital structures. The mean horizontal distances from LP to medial and inferior rectus muscles, globe, and infraorbital canal were found as 3.9 ± 1.2 mm, 11.5 ± 1.6 mm, 7.8 ± 1.5 mm and 16.1 ± 2.0 mm and as 0.6 ± 0.4 mm, 4.7 ± 1.3 mm, 7.2 ± 1.8 mm, 12.5 ± 2.3 mm at the depth of the anterior (AEF) and posterior ethmoidal foramen, respectively. All morphometric results were compared with respect to age, sex and laterality and higher in males than females. The measurement results indicated that subjects in first and second age groups showed statistically significant differences in distances from the LP to the globe, medial and inferior rectus muscles at the depth of AEF (p<0.05). But, there was no difference between right and left. Conclusion: CT imaging which can offer an accurate understanding of the regional anatomy of and around the LP may be helpful in preoperative planning and prediction of postoperative outcomes. It can allow the surgeon to prevent possible orbital injury during surgical interventions

    Brevibacillus gelatini sp nov., isolated from a hot spring

    Two Gram-stain-positive, moderately thermophilic, endospore-forming, rod-shaped, motile bacteria designated PDF4(T) and PDF10, were isolated from Camkoy hot spring in the provinces of Aydin, Turkey and were characterized in order to determine their phylogenetic position. 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis revealed that the two strains belonged to the genus Brevibacillus. Strain PDF4(T) showed highest 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity to strain PDF10 (99.5 %), Brevibacillus brevis DSM 30(T) (98.9 %), Brevibacillus parabrevis DSM 8376(T) (98.6 %) and Brevibacillus formosus DSM 9885(T) (98.5 %); similarities to other species of the genus Brevibacillus were less than 98.5 %. The predominant fatty acids of strain PDF4(T) were anteiso-C-15 : 0 (60.0 %) and iso-C-15 : 0 (22.3 %). The polar lipids of strain PDF4(T) consisted of diphosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylethanolamine, phosphatidylmonomethylethanolamine, an unknown phospholipid, two unknown lipid, an unknown aminophospholipid and two unknown aminolipids. MK-7 was detected as a sole respiratory quinone, and the cell wall of strain PDF4(T) contained meso-diaminopimelic acid. The DNA G + C content of strain PDF4(T) was 51.7 mol%. DNA-DNA hybridization showed less than 60 % relatedness between strain PDF4(T) and type strains of the most closely related species given above. Based on these data, the two strains are considered to represent a novel species of the genus Brevibacillus, for which the name Brevibacillus gelatini sp. nov. is proposed.     Is there any genetic predisposition of MMP-9 gene C1562T and MTHFR gene C677T polymorphisms with essential hypertension?

    The current study was conducted to determine whether there is a relation between hypertension and two different polymorphisms, including C1562T of the Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) gene and C677T of the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene. Genomic DNA obtained from 224 persons (125 patients with hypertension and 99 healthy controls) were used in the study. Polymorphisms were determined by using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism and electrophoresis. The results were statistically analyzed and were found to be statistically significant. The frequencies of the C1562T genotypes were found to be, in controls CC 75.8 % and CT 24.2 % and in patients CC 71.2 %, and CT 28.8 %. The frequencies of C677T genotype were found to be, in controls CC 56.6 %, CT 38.4 and TT 5.1 % in controls and in patients CC 52 %, CT 30.4 % and TT 17.6 %. In conclusion, we may suggest that there is no relation between the essential hypertension and C1562T polymorphism of MMP-9 gene; on the other hand C677T polymorphism (genotype TT) of MTHFR gene can be regarded as a genetic indicator for the development of essential hypertension.Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Japan (MEXT), Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research (KAKENHI): 2450132

    Manyetik rezonans görüntüleme ile supraspinatus kas alanı değerlendirmede iki farklı yazılımın karşılaştırılması

    Amaç: Rotator manşet yaralanmalarında en sık etkilenen tendon supraspinatus SPS tendonudur. SPS tendonunda rüptür sonrasında kasın kendisinde atrofi meydana gelmektedir. SPS kas alanının doğru ölçümünün, kas atrofisinin erken tanı ve tedavisinde önemli bir ölçüt olduğu düşünülmektedir. Alan ölçümleri genel olarak özel yazılımlar gerektiren iş istasyonlarında yapılmaktadır ve bu da yüksek maliyet gerektirmektedir. Bu çalışmada, SPS kas alanı ölçümünün değerlendirilmesinde bir iş istasyonu olan syngo.via ile hastanemizde de halen kullanılmakta olan yerli bir görüntü arşivleme ve bağlantı sistemi PACS olan EnlilPacs yazılımının sonuçları karşılaştırılmıştır. “Alan ölçümü yapmak için, iş istasyonu kullanılmadan, rütin rapor okumada kullanılan Enlilpacs ile iş istasyonu kadar güvenilir sonuçlar elde edilebilir mi?” sorusunun cevabını bulmak amaçlanmıştır. Gereç ve yöntem: SPS tendonunda tam kat rüptür olan 50 hastanın omuz manyetik rezonans MR görüntüleri değerlendirildi. Omuz MR görüntülemede rütin çekim protokolü kullanıldı. Sagital oblik T2 ağırlıklı görüntüler üzerinden, supraskapüler olukta, Y şekli içerisinde SPS kas alanları ölçüldü. Ölçümler kas iskelet radyolojisinde deneyimli iki farklı radyolog tarafından, iki farklı yazılım syngo.via ve EnlilPacs kullanılarak yapıldı. Elde edilen sonuçların ortalamaları karşılaştırıldı. Korelasyon ve güvenilirlik analizleri yapıldı. Bulgular: Ortalamalar arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark saptanmadı. Güvenilirlik analizinde ölçüm sonuçları açısından gruplar birbirleri ile iyi derecede tutarlı bulundu Cronbach alfa=0.970 . Korelasyon analizlerinde aynı yazılım kullanıldığında radyologlar arasında ve farklı yazılımlar kullanıldığında, yazılımlar arasında oldukça iyi korelasyon tespit edildi. En iyi korelasyonlar her iki kullanıcı için de iki farklı yazılım arasında idi. Sonuç: Alan ölçümü yapmak için yüksek maliyet gerektiren iş istasyonları yerine, yerli bir PACS sistemi olan EnlilPacs güvenle kullanılabili

    Bu çalışma ile Adapazarı-Süleymaniye subasar ormanlarında dört farklı dikim aralığında (3x2, 3x2.5, 3.75x3.75, 4x4 m) yetişen Dar Yapraklı Dişbudak odunlarının bazı anatomik ve morfolojik özelliklerinin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda lif uzunluğu, lif genişliği, çeper kalınlığı, lümen genişliği, trahe hücre uzunluğu tespit edilmiştir. Bu değerler kullanılarak, lif-boyut ilişkileri (Elastikiyet katsayısı, Keçeleşme oranı, Rijidite Katsayısı, Runkel sınıflaması, F faktörü, Mühlstep sınıflaması) belirlenmiştir. Elde edilen verilerle bu türün selüloz ve kâğıt endüstrisi açısından uygunluğu araştırılmış ve tüm plantasyonlara ait sonuçlar, Dar Yapraklı Dişbudak’ın kâğıt hamuru üretimine uygun bir hammadde olduğunu göstermiştir. Diğer bölgelerle karşılaştırıldığında en uygun dikim aralığının II. bölge (3x2,5 m) olduğu tespit edilmiştir
