Sensitivity reduction by stable controllers for MIMO infinite dimensional systems via the tangential nevanlinna-pick interpolation

    Get PDF
We study the problem of finding a stable stabilizing controller that satisfies a desired sensitivity level for an MIMO infinite dimensional system. The systems we consider have finitely many simple transmission zeros in C +, but they are allowed to possess infinitely many poles in C +. We compute both upper and lower bounds of the minimum sensitivity achievable by a stable controller via the tangential Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation. We also obtain stable controllers attaining such an upper bound. To illustrate the results, we discuss a repetitive control system as an application of the proposed method. © 1963-2012 IEEE

    Multifont Ottoman character recognition

    Get PDF
Ottoman characters from three different fonts are used character recognition problem, broadly speaking, is transferring a page that contain symbols to the computer and matching these symbols with previously known or recognized symbols after extraction the features of these symbols via appropriate preprocessing methods. Because of silent features of the characters, implementing an Ottoman character recognition system is a difficult work. Different researchers have done lots of works for years to develop systems that would recognize Latin characters. Although almost one million people use Ottoman characters, great deal of whom has different native languages, the number of studies on this field is insufficient. In this study 28 different machine-printed to train the Artificial Neural Network and a %95 classification accuracy for the characters in these fonts and a %70 classification accuracy for a different font has been found. © 2000 IEEE

Parameterization of suboptimal solutions of the Nehari problem for infinite-dimensional systems

    Get PDF
The Nehari problem plays an important role in H∞ control theory. It is well known that H∞ control problem can be reduced to solving this problem. This note gives a parameterization of all suboptimal solutions of the Nehari problem for a class of infinite-dimensional systems. Many earlier solutions of this problem are seen to be special cases of this new parameterization. It is also shown that for finite impulse response systems this parameterization takes a particularly simple form. ©2007 IEEE

A variable structure control approach to active queue management for TCP with ECN

    Get PDF
It has been shown that the transmission control protocol (TCP) connections through the congested routers can be modeled as a feedback dynamic system. In this paper we design a variable structure (VS) based control scheme in active queue management (AQM) supporting explicit congestion notification (ECN). By analyzing the robustness and performance of the control scheme for the nonlinear TCP/AQM model, we show that the proposed design has good performance and robustness with respect to the uncertainties of the round-trip time (RTT) and the number of active TCP sessions, which are central to the notion of AQM. Implementation issues are discussed and ns simulations are provided to validate the design and compare its performance to other peer schemes' in different scenarios. The results show that the proposed design significantly outperforms the peer AQM schemes in terms of packet loss ratio, throughput and buffer fluctuation. © 2005 IEEE

Stable controllers for robust stabilization of systems with infinitely many unstable poles

    Get PDF
This paper studies the problem of robust stabilization by a stable controller for a linear time-invariant single-input single-output infinite dimensional system. We consider a class of plants having finitely many simple unstable zeros but possibly infinitely many unstable poles. First we show that the problem can be reduced to an interpolation-minimization by a unit element. Next, by the modified Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation, we obtain both lower and upper bounds on the multiplicative perturbation under which the plant can be stabilized by a stable controller. In addition, we find stable controllers to provide robust stability. We also present a numerical example to illustrate the results and apply the proposed method to a repetitive control system. © 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved

A Hamiltonian-based solution to the mixed sensitivity optimization problem for stable pseudorational plants

    Get PDF
This paper considers the mixed sensitivity optimization problem for a class of infinite-dimensional stable plants. This problem is reducible to a two- or one-block H∞ control problem with structured weighting functions. We first show that these weighting functions violate the genericity assumptions of existing Hamiltonian-based solutions such as the well-known Zhou-Khargonekar formula. Then, we derive a new closed form formula for the computation of the optimal performance level, when the underlying plant structure is specified by a pseudorational transfer function. © 2005 Elsevier B.V. Sensitivity reduction by strongly stabilizing controllers for MIMO distributed parameter systems

    Get PDF
This note investigates a sensitivity reduction problem by stable stabilizing controllers for a linear time-invariant multi-input multioutput distributed parameter system. The plant we consider has finitely many unstable zeros, which are simple and blocking, but can possess infinitely many unstable poles. We obtain a necessary condition and a sufficient condition for the solvability of the problem, using the matrix Nevanlinna-Pick interpolation with boundary conditions. We also develop a necessary and sufficient condition for the solvability of the interpolation problem, and show an algorithm to obtain the solutions. Our method to solve the interpolation problem is based on the Schur-Nevanlinna algorithm. © 2012 IEEE

Plasmonic enhanced terahertz time-domain spectroscopy system for identification of common explosives

    Get PDF
In this study, we present a classification algorithm for terahertz time-domain spectroscopy systems (THz-TDS) that can be trained to identify most commonly used explosives (C4, HMX, RDX, PETN, TNT, composition-B and blackpowder) and some non-explosive samples (lactose, sucrose, PABA). Our procedure can be used in any THz-TDS system that detects either transmission or reflection spectra at room conditions. After preprocessing the signal in low THz regime (0.1-3 THz), our algorithm takes advantages of a latent space transformation based on principle component analysis in order to classify explosives with low false alarm rate. © 2017 SPIE

Time-resolved broadband analysis of slow-light propagation and superluminal transmission of electromagnetic waves in three-dimensional photonic crystals

A time-resolved analysis of the amplitude and phase of THz pulses propagating through three-dimensional photonic crystals is presented. Single-cycle pulses of THz radiation allow measurements over a wide frequency range, spanning more than an octave below, at and above the bandgap of strongly dispersive photonic crystals. Transmission data provide evidence for slow group velocities at the photonic band edges and for superluminal transmission at frequencies in the gap. Our experimental results are in good agreement with finite-difference-time-domain simulations.Comment: 7 pages, 11 figure

Frequency dependent electrical characteristics of (Ni/Au)/AlGaN/AlN/GaN heterostructures

    Get PDF
The main electrical parameters such as ideality factor (n), zero bias barrier height (Bo), series resistances (R s), depletion layer width (W D) and interface state densities (N SS) of (Ni/Au)/AlGaN/AlN/GaN heterostructures have been extracted from the current-voltage (I-V) at room temperature, and frequency dependent capacitance voltage (C-V) and conductance-voltage (G/w-V) measurements. The high value of n and R s were attributed to the existence of an interfacial layer (IL) and particular distribution of N ss. The density distrubition profile of N ss was obtained from both forward bias I-V data and low-high frequency (C LF-C HF) measurement methods. In addition, the voltage dependent R s profile obtained both I-V and admittance measurements are in good agreement. As a result, the existence of an IL, R s and N ss lead to deviation from the ideal case of these heterostructures
