    A Radiation Tolerant 4.8 Gb/s Serializer for the Giga-Bit Transceiver

    This paper describes the design of a full-custom 120:1 data serializer for the GigaBit Transceiver (GBT) which has been under development for the LHC upgrade (SLHC). The circuit operates at 4.8 Gb=s and is implemented in a commercial 130 nm CMOS technology. The serializer occupies an area of 0.6 mm2 and its power consumption is 300 mW. The paper focuses on the techniques used to achieve radiation tolerance and on the simulation method used to estimate the sensitivity to single event transient

    Ecological assessment of Great Lota Lake (Turkey) on the base of diatom communities

    The diatoms are very important component for aquatic ecosystems. Turkey has a rich lake potential and many of the lakes have high level of endemism. For this reason, the Great Lota Lake was investigated between October 2000 and October 2001 in sampling periods of approximately per 15 days from one station. Totally, 104 diatom taxa were identified and used for ecological analysis by statistic methods. Chronological analysis, indication in respect to temperature, habitat preferences, streaming and oxygenation, organic pollution by Pantle-Buck and Watanabe’s saprobity system, N-uptake metabolism, and trophic states were evaluated, and the aquatic ecosystem state index (WESI) was calculated. As a result, the diatoms in the lake preferred temperate, low saline and alkaline water.     "CMAD", a Full Custom ASIC, for the Upgrade of COMPASS RICH-1

    An 8 channel, full-custom ASIC prototype, named ”CMAD”, designed for the readout of the RICH-I detector system of the COMPASS experiment at CERN is presented. The task of the chip is amplifying the signals coming from fast multi-anode photomultipliers and comparing them against a threshold adjustable on-chip on a channel by channel basis. CMAD, developed using a 350nm commercial CMOS technology, occupies an area of 4.7x3.2mm2 and consumes 26mW/Ch power from a 3.3 V single source

    Genetic polymorphism of STAT1 and STAT5A genes in holstein, Jersey, and indigenous cattle breeds in Turkey

    This study aimed to determine genetic polymorphism in STAT1 and STAT5A genes for dairy cattle and some native cattle breeds in Turkey. 283 Jersey and a total of 472 Holstein cows from two different herds and 93 Grey Steppe, 85 Anatolian Black Cattle, and 66 East Anatolian Red cattle were used in this research. Generally, C allele gene frequency was higher than T allele for STAT1 in all breeds whereas C allele gene frequency was detected higher than G allele for STAT5A in Jersey and East Anatolian Red. On the other hand, G allele gene frequency was higher than C allele in Holstein, Grey Steppe, and Anatolian Black Cattle breeds. The expected deviations from the Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium were significant only for Jersey breeds for STAT1 gene. Meanwhile, the expected deviation from equilibrium was also significantly different for Holstein in Black Sea Region (BSR), Anatolian Black Cattle and Grey Steppe for the STAT5A gene. FIS values were determined to STAT1 gene as negative for all breeds except for Holstein in Marmara Region (MR). Similarly, this value was determined to STAT5A gene as positive for all breeds except for Holstein in BSR. The genetic distances for two loci were calculated between 0.0029 and 0.1599 among all populations. Depending on the cluster analysis, Holstein in BSR and MR, Anatolian Black Cattle, East Anatolian Red were closely clustered to each other, while Grey Steppe and Jersey were located in completely different clusters. As a conclusion, based on the detected genetic diversity in STAT1 and STAT5A genes, it is possible to make a genetic improvement among bovine breeds raised in Turkey. © 2020, Veteriner Fakultesi Dergisi.     Melitopalynological and antimicrobial properties of honeys from elaziğ(e Turkey)

    In this study, the pollen analyses and antimicrobial effect were conducted in honey samples, which were collected from seven localities where apiculture has intensively been practiced. Upon pollen analyses of 16 different plants have been determined. The plants contributing nectar to honey samples in Elazig were found as follows; Fabaceae: Astragalus, Trifolium, Vicia, Onobrychis; Asteraceae: Centaurea triumfettii, Carduus, Xeranthemum, Helianthus annuus; Lamiaceae: Salvia, Mentha;Rosaceae: Rubus, Prunus;Vitaceae: Vitaceae: Vitis;Apiaceae: Daucus; Zygophyllaceae: Peganum harmala; Ranunculaceae: Ranunculus. The honey sapmles have inhibited the growth of bacteria used in our work at varying degrees. None of the samples had any antifungal effect against Candida albicans FMC-17 and Saccharomycescerevisiae UAG-10

    Oblique Parameters and Extra Generations via OPUCEM

    Recent improvements to OPUCEM, the tool for calculation of the contributions of various models to oblique parameters, are presented. OPUCEM is used to calculate the available parameter space for the four family Standard Model given the current electroweak precision data. It is shown that even with the restrictions on Higgs boson and new quark masses presented in the 2011 autumn conferences, there is still enough space to allow a fourth generation with Dirac type neutrinos. For Majorana type neutrinos, the allowed region is even larger. The electroweak precision data also favors non-zero mixing between light and fourth generations, thus effectively reducing current experimental limits. Additionally, calculations with OPUCEM show that even 5th and 6th generations are compatible with the existing electroweak precision data, with a probability comparable to or higher than the Standard Model with 3 generations.Comment: 11 pages, 21 figures, 5 tables - Version accepted by EPJ-
