Determination of musk compounds in biotic matrices
Diplomová práce vychází ze současné problematiky kontaminace životního prostředí syntetickými vonnými látkami. Musk sloučeniny se z důvodu biologické perzistence a schopnosti kumulace rozšířily do všech složek životního prostředí, především vodních ekosystémů. Tato práce je zaměřena na výběr a optimalizaci metody stanovení umělých musk sloučenin v reálných biotických vzorcích (rybách). Pro izolaci analytu ze vzorku byla použita metoda tlakem podporované extrakce (PSE), přečištění vzorku bylo realizováno metodou sloupcové kolonové chromatografie. Identifikace a kvantifikace jednotlivých musk sloučenin byla provedena pomocí vysokorozlišovací plynové chromatografie s hmotnostní detekcí (GC-MS). Na závěr byla provedena diskuze výsledků a zhodnocení kontaminace ryb z řeky Svratky odlovených na přítoku a odtoku ČOV.This diploma thesis deals with actual issues of the contamination in the environment with synthetic fragrances. Musk compounds are infiltrated to many environmental components (especially an aquatic ecosystem) because of their biological persistence and the ability of accumulation. This diploma thesis is focused on the selection and the optimization of method for the determination of musk compounds in real biotic matrices (fish). The isolation of analytes was realized by PSE method and the purification of extract was realized by the method of the adsorption column chromatography. Identification and quantification of individual musk compounds was carried out by GC-MS. In conclusion were results and the contamination of fish from the river Svratka disscissed and evaluated. These fish were caught at the inflow and at the outflow of the wastewater treatment plant.
Preoperative STOP-BANG Scores and Postoperative Delirium and Coma in Thoracic Surgery Patients
Background
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with higher rates of postoperative delirium. The relationship between preoperative OSA risk and postoperative delirium and coma in thoracic surgery patients hospitalized in the intensive care unit (ICU) is not well understood. This study tests the hypothesis that thoracic surgery patients hospitalized in ICU with a higher preoperative risk for OSA are more likely to develop postoperative delirium and coma, resulting in longer hospital stays.
Methods
Preoperative OSA risk was measured using the STOP-BANG questionnaire. STOP-BANG scores of ≥ 3 were defined as intermediate-high risk for OSA. 128 patients who underwent major thoracic surgery completed the STOP-BANG questionnaire preoperatively. The Richmond Agitation and Sedation Scale was used to assess level of consciousness. The Confusion Assessment Method for the ICU was used to assess for delirium. Linear regression was used to assess the relationship between risk of OSA and outcome measures. Results were adjusted for age, gender, body mass index, Charlson Comorbidity Index, instrumental activities of daily living, and surgery type.
Results
96 out of 128 patients (76%) were in the intermediate-high risk OSA group. Adjusted analyses showed that the intermediate-high risk OSA group had a longer duration of postoperative ICU delirium and coma compared to the low risk OSA group (1.4 days ± 1.3 vs 0.9 days ± 1.4; P = 0.04). Total number of hospital days was not significantly different.
Conclusions
Higher preoperative risk for OSA in thoracic surgery patients was associated with a longer duration of postoperative delirium and coma
The nodal structure of doubly-excited resonant states of helium
The authors examine the nodal structure of accurate helium wavefunctions calculated by direct diagonalization of the full six-dimensional problem. It is shown that for fixed interelectronic distance R (or hyperspherical radius R) the symmetric doubly-excited resonant states have well defined lambda , mu nodal structure indicating a near separability in prolate spheroidal coordinates. For fixed lambda , however, a clear mixing of R, mu nodes is demonstrated. This corresponds to a breakdown of the adiabatic approximation and can be understood in terms of the classical two-electron motion
Microprocessor control and networking for the amps breadboard
Future space missions will require more sophisticated power systems, implying higher costs and more extensive crew and ground support involvement. To decrease this human involvement, as well as to protect and most efficiently utilize this important resource, NASA has undertaken major efforts to promote progress in the design and development of autonomously managed power systems. Two areas being actively pursued are autonomous power system (APS) breadboards and knowledge-based expert system (KBES) applications. The former are viewed as a requirement for the timely development of the latter. Not only will they serve as final testbeds for the various KBES applications, but will play a major role in the knowledge engineering phase of their development. The current power system breadboard designs are of a distributed microprocessor nature. The distributed nature, plus the need to connect various external computer capabilities (i.e., conventional host computers and symbolic processors), places major emphasis on effective networking. The Big Two ialah sejenis permainan peluang. Permainan peluang memainkan peranan agak penting dalam pembentukan teori kebarangkalian. Permainan ini diklasifikasikan sebagai perrnaloan maklumat tidak sempurna iaitu terdapat maklumat yang tersembunyi semasa pemain-pemain mendapat pembahagian kad-kad daun terup, permainan jumlah sifar iaitu seseorang pemain menang bermaksud seorang lagi pemain kalah,tidak mungkin terdapat permainan seri dalam permainan The Big Two. Permainan The Big Two juga digolongkan sebagai perrnaloan pembentukan luas. Dalam disertasi ini teori matematik dan teori pengambilan keputusan dalam permainan The Big Two telah difahami. Kajian awalan tentang strategi optimum dalam permainan The Big Two dengan melihat satu kes permainan dua individu juga dianalisis. Pokok permainan telah digunakan untuk menganalisis strategi optimum dalam permainan The Big Two. Syarat untuk permainan itu boleh dianalisiskan dengan menggunakan pokok permainan untuk menentukan strategi optimum ialah permainan itu merupakan permainan pembentukan luas, The Big Two memenuhi syarat ini. Dalam kes kajian, didapati bahawa strategi optimum bukan banya sahaja, tetapi lebih daripada satu strategi campuran optimum. Strategi optimum boleh ditentukan dengan merujuk kepada pokok permainan tetapi bukan setiap kes dalam permainan The Big Two boleh dilukiskan dengan pokok permainan. Analisis ini boleh membekalkan persefahaman yang dalam tetapi jarang sekali hasil analisis boleh digunakan secara langsung ke atis masalah asal
Entrepreneurship and Rent-Seeking Behavior
In this chapter, we propose a primer of the treatment that has received in the economic literature the problematic of entrepreneurship and rent-seeking behavior. It comprises the introduction of employed concepts, the discussion of the allocation of entrepreneurs between different types of economic projects, namely between innovative entrepreneurship and rent-seeking, as well as the explicative factors of the allocation. Interactions between entrepreneurship, rent-seeking and growth are considered (also for a reference situation departing from the first best).
