Influencia de la cultura en la experiencia del cáncer

Optimal cancer care should integrate cultural variables that influence psychosocial adjustment to the disease and its treatments. This article describes some of the most important cultural variables that may affect an individual’s response to the disease: causal attributions to cancer; family members´ role in patient care; truth-telling practices; attitudes towards pain; and attitudes towards death and dying. The article is based on others previously published. Its main purpose is to increase medical staff’s awareness of the need to understand the culturally different cancer patient in societies in which increasing immigration rates oblige some individuals to treat and confront their illness in cultural environments that are unknown to them

Perilaku Verbal dan Nonverbal dalam Ranah Kesehatan pada Masyarakat di Dusun Tambran Kidul Kecamatan Semin Kabupaten Gunungkidul (Kajian Etnolinguistik)

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah (1) mendeskripsikan pandangan sehat dan sakit pada masyarakat di Dusun Tambran Kidul; (2) mendeskripsikan perilaku verbal dan nonverbal dalam penyembuhan dan pencegahan sakit penyakit pada masyarakat di Dusun Tambran Kidul; (3) menjelaskan mengapa perilaku verbal dan nonverbal sangat penting dalam penyembuhan dan pencegahan sakit penyakit pada masyarakat di Dusun Tambran Kidul; dan (4) mendeskripsikan pola pikir, pandangan hidup, dan pandangan dunia dalam ranah kesehatan pada masyarakat di Dusun Tambran Kidul Kecamatan Semin Kabupaten Gunungkidul. Penelitian ini termasuk penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Data dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari data primer dan data sekunder. Data primer berupa kata-kata dalam peristiwa tutur pengobatan dan pencegahan sakit-penyakit dengan menggunakan metode wawancara dan obvervasi terhadap narasumber (penyembuh). Data sekunder berasal dari buku dan jurnal dengan menggunakan metode kajian tulisan. Analisis data yang digunakan yaitu model etnosains dan metode agih dengan tahapan analisis domain, taksonomi, komponensial, dan tema budaya. Penyajian hasil analisis data disajikan melalui metode formal dan informal. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah (1) adanya pandangan sehat dan sakit berdasarkan sistem kognisi masyarakat Jawa di Dusun Tambran Kidul; (2) perilaku verbal dan nonverbal dalam ranah kesehatan, yaitu (a) teks perilaku verbal dan nonverbal berupa struktur mikro dan struktur makro. Struktur mikro meliputi pendahuluan isi, dan penutup. Struktur makro meliputi tempat dan waktu; perserta tutur; maksud dan tujuan; pokok tuturan; nada tuturan; instrumen; norma; dan genre. (b) ko-teks, yaitu kinetik atau gerak dan unsur material (c) konteks budaya, situasi, sosial-ekonomi, dan spriritual. (3) perilaku verbal dan nonverbal sangat penting karen (a) perilaku verbal merupakan perwujudan iman dan harapan kepada Tuhan; (b) perilaku nonverbal merupakan perwujudan tindakan nyata;dan (c) adanya Inerenergi. (4) Pola pikir masyarakat di Dusun Tambran Kidul, seperti menjaga keharmonisan, kerukunan dan perdamaian, eling lan waspodho ‘ingat dan berjaga-jaga’, menghormati leluhur, dan hidup sederhana. Pandangan hidup, seperti tepa slira ‘saling menghargai’; ayom ‘damai’, ayem ‘tentram’, suka ‘bahagia’; asih samaning titah ‘cinta kasih terhadap sesama’; dan nglurug tanpa bala ‘menyerang tanpa pasukan’, sugih tanpa bandha ‘kaya tanpa harta’, digdaya tanpa aji ‘sakti tanpa ajimat’. Pandangan dunia, seperti adanya kekuatan tertinggi (holly spririt); dan leluhur, seperti Dhanyang ‘roh leluhur yang melindungi desa’ dan Mbok Sri ‘Ibu Sri’. Group psychotherapy for breast cancer patients: a clinica approach

Este artículo describe las diferentes modalidades grupales de psicoterapia que se emplean con mujeres que padecen cáncer de mama. Además de documentar su eficacia en cuanto a mejoras en la calidad de vida, reducciones en síntomas físicos, y mejora en la adaptación psicológica global, el artículo tiene un enfoque clínico centrado en describir los pasos para llevar a cabo eficazmente un grupo para esta población de pacientes oncológicos. Se describen con detalle grupos de sesión única con el fin de facilitar una herramienta clínicamente útil para el lector, dada la eficacia de estos grupos y la facilidad para llevarlos a cabo. Igualmente se describen los grupos de larga duración y aquellos de duración limitada. Se ofrecen pautas para facilitar la organización de un grupo e intentar vencer las barreras que surgen en el proceso. Finalmente, se describen estudios que han evaluado los efectos de la participación en terapia grupal sobre la supervivencia de mujeres con cáncer de mama.This article describes the different modalities of group psychotherapies that are most frequently used with breast cancer patients. In addition to documenting the efficacy of group psychotherapy in improving patients´ quality of life, physical symptoms and global psychological adaptation, emphasis is placed on clinical aspects of this treatment modality. Guidelines to develop effective groups are described. Only-session groups are described in detail in order to provide the health professionals with instruments that are clinically useful. Long duration and time-limited groups are equally described. Guidelines are offered to facilitate group development and help overcome the barriers that arise during this process. Finally, studies evaluating the effects of group participation on survival of breast cancer patients are included

Fast and User-friendly Quantum Key Distribution

Some guidelines for the comparison of different quantum key distribution experiments are proposed. An improved 'plug & play' interferometric system allowing fast key exchange is then introduced. Self-alignment and compensation of birefringence remain. Original electronics implementing the BB84 protocol and allowing user-friendly operation is presented. Toroidal automorphic forms, Waldspurger periods and double Dirichlet series

The space of toroidal automorphic forms was introduced by Zagier in the 1970s: a GL_2-automorphic form is toroidal if it has vanishing constant Fourier coefficients along all embedded non-split tori. The interest in this space stems (amongst others) from the fact that an Eisenstein series of weight s is toroidal for a given torus precisely if s is a non-trivial zero of the zeta function of the quadratic field corresponding to the torus. In this paper, we study the structure of the space of toroidal automorphic forms for an arbitrary number field F. We prove that it decomposes into a space spanned by all derivatives up to order n-1 of an Eisenstein series of weight s and class group character omega precisely if s is a zero of order n of the L-series corresponding to omega at s, and a space consisting of exactly those cusp forms the central value of whose L-series is zero. The proofs are based on an identity of Hecke for toroidal integrals of Eisenstein series and a result of Waldspurger about toroidal integrals of cusp forms combined with non-vanishing results for twists of L-series proven by the method of double Dirichlet series.Comment: 14 page
