Proceedings of the 11th IEA International Workshop on Beryllium Technology (BeWS-11), Barcelona, Spain, 12-13 September 2013 (KIT Scientific Reports ; 7686)
The 11th IEA Beryllium Workshop (BeWS-11) was jointly organized by the KIT, Germany and Ciemat, Spain and was held at the Technical University of Catalonia, Barcelona Tech (UCP). The International Organizing Committee (IOC) and all participants expressed their appreciation to the Local Organizing Committee for the truly excellent organization of the workshop at Ciemat. About forty scientists participated, coming mainly from Europe, U.S.A., Russia, Japan, and Kazakhstan
Proceedings of the Workshop on Change of Representation and Problem Reformulation
The proceedings of the third Workshop on Change of representation and Problem Reformulation is presented. In contrast to the first two workshops, this workshop was focused on analytic or knowledge-based approaches, as opposed to statistical or empirical approaches called 'constructive induction'. The organizing committee believes that there is a potential for combining analytic and inductive approaches at a future date. However, it became apparent at the previous two workshops that the communities pursuing these different approaches are currently interested in largely non-overlapping issues. The constructive induction community has been holding its own workshops, principally in conjunction with the machine learning conference. While this workshop is more focused on analytic approaches, the organizing committee has made an effort to include more application domains. We have greatly expanded from the origins in the machine learning community. Participants in this workshop come from the full spectrum of AI application domains including planning, qualitative physics, software engineering, knowledge representation, and machine learning

Advanced Welding and Joining Technical Workshop: Pipelines
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) strongly supports the drive toward safer pipelines, and joined with the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) to advance this goal. NIST in collaboration with PHMSA and several pipeline industry trade organizations, organized and executed the Advanced Welding and Joining Technical Workshop on January 25 and 26, 2006 workshop in Boulder, Colorado.
Assistance in organizing the workshop came from an 18-person steering committee selected to represent the different interests in the pipeline industry. This committee helped to prepare the agenda, identify speakers, organize the working groups, and promote attendance.
The workshop had 69 participants representing pipeline owners, technology developers, trade and standards organizations, and government agencies. The workshop structure included six keynote presentations to suggest some issues, five working groups (by topical area) to identify and rank the research needs, and summary presentations (back to the whole group) to compare results and comment on any overlaps or omissions.
The five working groups were:
• Weld Design in Emerging Materials,
• Construction,
• Weld Inspection and Assessment Methods,
• Weld Maintenance and Repair, and
• Joining Issues for Nonmetallic Material
Experiences with two-equation turbulence models
This viewgraph presentation discusses the following: introduction to CFD Research Corporation; experiences with two-equation models - models used, numerical difficulties, validation and applications, and strengths and weaknesses; and answers to three questions posed by the workshop organizing committee - what are your customers telling you, what are you doing in-house, and how can NASA-CMOTT (Center for Modeling of Turbulence and Transition) help
Transboundary Water: Improving Methodologies and Developing Integrated Tools to Support Water Security
River basins for which transboundary coordination and governance is a factor are of concern to US national security, yet there is often a lack of sufficient data-driven information available at the needed time horizons to inform transboundary water decision-making for the intelligence, defense, and foreign policy communities. To address this need, a two-day workshop entitled Transboundary Water: Improving Methodologies and Developing Integrated Tools to Support Global Water Security was held in August 2017 in Maryland. The committee that organized and convened the workshop (the Organizing Committee) included representatives from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the US Army Corps of Engineers Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC), and the US Air Force. The primary goal of the workshop was to advance knowledge on the current US Government and partners' technical information needs and gaps to support national security interests in relation to transboundary water. The workshop also aimed to identify avenues for greater communication and collaboration among the scientific, intelligence, defense, and foreign policy communities. The discussion around transboundary water was considered in the context of the greater global water challenges facing US national security
WORKSHOP PROGRAMME REVIEW
On behalf of the organizing committee, I am honored first of all to welcome you all to our workshop discussion on an important and timely issue of the health aspects of repatriation in Ethiopia. As stated in the constitution of the Ethiopian Public Health Association (EPHA), one of the major responsibilities of the secretariat for enhancing the profession is to organize forums where its members discuss relevant topics and forward feasible and beneficial recommendations to the government for the necessary actions
Controversies in epilepsy: Debates held during the Fourth International Workshop on Seizure Prediction
Debates on six controversial topics were held during the Fourth International Workshop on Seizure Prediction (IWSP4) convened in Kansas City, KS, USA, July 4–7, 2009. The topics were (1) Ictogenesis: Focus versus Network? (2) Spikes and Seizures: Step-relatives or Siblings? (3) Ictogenesis: A Result of Hyposynchrony? (4) Can Focal Seizures Be Caused by Excessive Inhibition? (5) Do High-Frequency Oscillations Provide Relevant Independent Information? (6) Phase Synchronization: Is It Worthwhile as Measured? This article, written by the IWSP4 organizing committee and the debaters, summarizes the arguments presented during the debates
