Wireless Information and Power Transfer With Full Duplex Relaying
We consider a dual-hop full-duplex relaying system, where the energy constrained relay node is powered by radio frequency signals from the source using the time-switching architecture, both the amplify-and-forward and decode-and-forward relaying protocols are studied. Specifically, we provide an analytical characterization of the achievable throughput of three different communication modes, namely, instantaneous transmission, delay-constrained transmission, and delay tolerant transmission. In addition, the optimal time split is studied for different transmission modes. Our results reveal that, when the time split is optimized, the full-duplex relaying could substantially boost the system throughput compared to the conventional half-duplex relaying architecture for all three transmission modes. In addition, it is shown that the instantaneous transmission mode attains the highest throughput. However, compared to the delay-constrained transmission mode, the throughput gap is rather small. Unlike the instantaneous time split optimization which requires instantaneous channel state information, the optimal time split in the delay-constrained transmission mode depends only on the statistics of the channel, hence, is suitable for practical implementations
Performance analysis with wireless power transfer constraint policies in full-duplex relaying networks
In practice, full-duplex (FD) transmission mode not only helps extend the coverage but also lengthen network lifetime. In this paper, we develop wireless power supply policies, namely separated power (SP) and harvested power (HP) to propose a flexible architecture at the relay node in FD decode-and-forward (DF) relaying networks considering time switching-based relaying protocol (TSR) to achieve optimal time used for a communication process. This transmission mode requires more processing procedure at the relay, i.e. antenna installations and radio frequency (RF) self-interference cancellation. We evaluate the optimal power constraints in case of SP and HP to achieve better power consumption efficiency at the relay node. More importantly, closed-form expressions for outage probability and throughput are provided, and we also use numerical and simulation results to compare SP with HP.Web of Science234767
Time switching for wireless communications with full-duplex relaying in imperfect CSI condition
In this paper, we consider an amplify-and-forward (AF) full-duplex relay network (FDRN) using simultaneous wireless information and power transfer, where a battery-free relay node harvests energy from the received radio frequency (RF) signals from a source node and uses the harvested energy to forward the source information to destination node. The time-switching relaying (TSR) protocol is studied, with the assumption that the channel state information (CSI) at the relay node is imperfect. We deliver a rigorous analysis of the outage probability of the proposed system. Based on the outage probability expressions, the optimal time switching factor are obtained via the numerical search method. The simulation and numerical results provide practical insights into the effect of various system parameters, such as the time switching factor, the noise power, the energy harvesting efficiency, and the channel estimation error on the performance of this network. It is also observed that for the imperfect CSI case, the proposed scheme still can provide acceptable outage performance given that the channel estimation error is bounded in a permissible interval.Web of Science1094239422
Full-Duplex MIMO Relaying Powered by Wireless Energy Transfer
We consider a full-duplex decode-and-forward system, where the wirelessly
powered relay employs the time-switching protocol to receive power from the
source and then transmit information to the destination. It is assumed that the
relay node is equipped with two sets of antennas to enable full-duplex
communications. Three different interference mitigation schemes are studied,
namely, 1) optimal 2) zero-forcing and 3) maximum ratio combining/maximum ratio
transmission. We develop new outage probability expressions to investigate
delay-constrained transmission throughput of these schemes. Our analysis show
interesting performance comparisons of the considered precoding schemes for
different system and link parameters.Comment: Accepted for IEEE International Workshop on Signal Processing

Power Switching Protocol for Two-way Relaying Network under Hardware Impairments
In this paper, we analyze the impact of hardware impairments at relay node and source node (i.e. imperfect nodes) on network performance by evaluating outage probability based on the effective signal to noise and distortion ratio (SNDR). Especially, we propose energy harvesting protocol at the relay and source nodes, namely, power switching imperfect relay (PSIR) and power switching imperfect source (PSIS). Aiming to determine the performance of energy constrained network, we first derive closed-form expressions of the outage probability and then the throughput can be maximized in delay-limited transmission mode. The simulation results provide practical insights into the impacts of hardware impairments and power switching factors of the energy harvesting protocol on the performance of energy harvesting enabled two-way relaying network
Minimizing Outage Probability by Exploiting CSI in Wireless Powered Cooperative Networks
In this work, we address the relay selection problem for the wireless powered
communication networks, where the relays harvest energy from the source radio
frequency signals. A single source-destination pair is considered without a
direct link. The connecting relay nodes are equipped with storage batteries of
infinite size. We assume that the channel state information (CSI) on the
source-relay link is available at the relay nodes. Depending on the
availability of the CSI on the relay-destination link at the relay node, we
propose different relay selection schemes and evaluate the outage probability.
The availability of the CSI at the relay node on the relay-destination link
considerably improves the performance due to additional flexibility in the
relay selection mechanism. We numerically quantify the performance for the
proposed schemes and compare the outage probability for fixed and equal number
of wireless powered forwarding relays.Comment: accepted in IEEE Globecom 201
Outage probability analysis in DF power-splitting full-duplex relaying network with impact of Co-channel interference at the destination
Nowadays, improving the WPCN efficiency problem is the leading research direction in the communication network. In this research, the outage probability (OP) analysis in DF power-splitting (PS) full-duplex (FD) relaying network with impact of co-channel interference at the destination is proposed and investigated. In the system model section, we present the DF PS FD Relaying Network with Impact of Co-channel interference at the destination. Then in the system performance section, we analyze and derive the closed-form expression of the OP and investigate the effect of the main system parameters on the system network performance. Then, we perform the Monte Carlo simulation to verify the analytical section. This research can provide a new recommendation for the communication network
