    One of the most serious challenges that web-service enabled e-marketplaces face is the lack of formal support for expressing service requests against UDDI-resident web-services in order to solve a complex business problem. In this paper we present a web-service request language (XSRL) developed on the basis of AI planning and the XML database query language XQuery. This framework is designed to handle and execute XSRL requests and is capable of performing planning actions under uncertainty on the basis of refinement and revision as new service-related information is accumulated (via interaction with the user or UDDI) and as execution circumstances necessitate change

    Design and Discovery of Sensor Web Registry Services for Wireless Sensor Network with x-SOA Approach

    The application of wireless sensor network is emerging as a new trend in different sphere of modern society. However due to the advancement of SWE, designing & discovering sensor web registry services throughout heterogeneous environments is becoming a challenging task and raises several concerns like performance, reliability, and robustness. Many approaches and frameworks have been proposed to discover the sensor web registry services. Some of the approaches assume that the requests are placed in SOAP compatible formats while others focus on GUI based parametric query processing. We have formulated an approach that uses the Natural Language Query Processing which is a convenient and easy method of data access, especially for casual users who do not understand complicated database query languages such as SQL or XML based Query Language like XQuery and XPath. SOA is the proven technology for designing an efficient Sensor Web Registry by describing various parameters and sensor web services needed. We also propose an architecture based on x-SOA that organizes the method of sensor web registry service discovery in an efficient and structured manner using an intermediary, requester friendly layer called the Request Parser & Query Generator (RPQ) between the service provider and service requester via a service registry. We describe how RPQ facilitates the processing of plain text request query to a most appropriate sensor web service and also an algorithm with implementation for a complete cycle of sensor web registry service discovery

    E-Learning and microformats: a learning object harvesting model and a sample application

    In order to support interoperability of learning tools and reusability of resources, this paper introduces a framework for harvesting learning objects from web-based content. Therefore, commonly-known web technologies are examined with respect to their suitability for harvesting embedded meta-data. Then, a lightweight application profile and a microformat for learning objects are proposed based on well-known learning object metadata standards. Additionally, we describe a web service which utilizes XSL transformation (GRDDL) to extract learning objects from different web pages, and provide a SQI target as a retrieval facility using a more complex query language called SPARQL. Finally, we outline the applicability of our framework on the basis of a search client employing the new SQI service for searching and retrieving learning objects

    With the growing number of Web services, it is no longer adequate to locate a Web service by searching its name or browsing a UDDI directory. An efficient Web services discovery mechanism is necessary for locating and selecting the required Web services. Searching mechanism should be based on Web service description rather than on keywords. In this work, we introduce a Web service searching prototype that can locate Web services by comparing all available information encoded in Web service description, such as operation name, input and output types, the structure of the underlying XML schema, and the semantic of element names. Our approach combines information-retrieval techniques, weighted bipartite graph matching algorithm and tree-matching algorithm. Given a query, represented as set of keywords, Web service description, or operation description, an information retrieval technique is used to rank the candidate Web services based on their text-base similarity to the query. The ranked result can be further refined by computing their structure similarity. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)
