Open University Malaysia (OUM), the country’s premier open and distance learning institution has undergone continuous improvements since its establishment in 2000. This paper describes some of the initiatives designed by OUM to support these improvements. The paper provides an overview on the migration and implementation of a new e-learning model that have been executed and progressed since May 2010. This strategic move constitutes the development of web-based modules, e-schedules, i-lectures, online learning resources, online submission and grading of assignments. As do any implementation process of this magnitude, the progress so far came with constraining challenges. This paper further highlights these challenges, and concludes with OUM's provisions to overcome them. (Abstract by authors

Investigating the affective Learning in a 3D virtual learning environment : the case study of the Chatterdale mystery

This research is motivated by the emergence of virtual technologies and their potential as engaging pedagogical tools for facilitating comprehension, interactions and collaborations for learning; and in particular as applied to learning second languages (L2). This paper provides a descriptive analysis of a case study that examines affective learning outcomes. We present an extension of an Affective Learning Model (ALM) in light of gaming in a 3D Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) in support of an L2 course. We identify affordances while applying an example of a serious game within the selected VLE. The findings of this case investigation give evidence that the gaming activities supported affective learning outcomes. This finding aligns with prior research of the ALM. Our research is based on a set of data collected during a case study as part of Euroversity, a three-year European Commission Project (2011-2014). Keywords: virtual learning environments, OpenSim, affective model of learning, affordances, gaming.publishedVersio

New frontiers of managerial training: the LiVES project

The evolution of the Internet allowed the Web to become, among the different media, the most global, inter-active and dynamic medium to share information. Therefore, in the last decades, e-Learning has been widely used not only in the academic community, but also in the business sector. Within this context, thanks to their own competences, people can develop specific characteristics which may provide a competitive advantage for their organizations. The development and use of new technologies for the creation of three-dimensional (3D) Virtual Worlds set new challenges and enlarge the very idea of ‘learning environment’. This paper aims at inves-tigating the characteristics of training activities directed at the managerial class, in such a way as to increase their efficacy; it also analyses how the use of specific innovative technologies may be an effective solution. The evolution of the Internet allowed the Web to become, among the different media, the most global, inter-active and dynamic medium to share information. Then, concept known as e-learning take affect transformation of occurs conventional education into digital form, both the content and the system that is bridged by the technology of internet. The concept of e-learning gives the possibility of interaction between lecturers and students, either the students in the classroom or outside the classroom intensively. This study aimed to obtain e-learning media based Moodle is effective to support the development of science and Islamic studies in Gayo through a series of development process. The finding of the study showed that e-learning based Moodle was conducted by using 4-D model (Four D Model). The results also showed that of development activities are: (1) e-learning media in Gayo which can be seen in www.elearning-gayobelajar.com and (2) the use of guide books for lecturers and teachers. The Finding also indicated that the development of E-learning based Moodle is reliable or has a high level of reliability if t is used in university

The advancement of information and communication technology in 21st century is introducing new way of learning. The physical classroom learning method is very effective and a prevailing type learning. The main objective of the study was to explore the impact of non-traditional method of education in undergraduates. The main objective was to study the general impact of traditional learning method among students. The researcher had used the social survey method of research for data collection and researcher had used simple random sampling. The researcher had selected 60 respondents from Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan and 40 respondents from Virtual university Multan campus. Online learning saves time 88.3% real class students said that yes it saves time and 92.5% virtual learners agree that it saves time. The online learning reduced the dependency of place 70% traditional students were agreed this and 80% virtual students said that it reduced the dependency of place. Virtual learning is beneficial for both learning and job together 80% traditional students said yes, it is beneficial for both and 90% virtual students had also same views.Recently, use of information communication technology has been increased in our educational institutions. Due to this advancement in technology has made physical and virtual learning more effective for learners
