empathi: An ontology for Emergency Managing and Planning about Hazard Crisis
In the domain of emergency management during hazard crises, having sufficient
situational awareness information is critical. It requires capturing and
integrating information from sources such as satellite images, local sensors
and social media content generated by local people. A bold obstacle to
capturing, representing and integrating such heterogeneous and diverse
information is lack of a proper ontology which properly conceptualizes this
domain, aggregates and unifies datasets. Thus, in this paper, we introduce
empathi ontology which conceptualizes the core concepts concerning with the
domain of emergency managing and planning of hazard crises. Although empathi
has a coarse-grained view, it considers the necessary concepts and relations
being essential in this domain. This ontology is available at

A schema-based P2P network to enable publish-subscribe for multimedia content in open hypermedia systems
Open Hypermedia Systems (OHS) aim to provide efficient dissemination, adaptation and integration of hyperlinked multimedia resources. Content available in Peer-to-Peer (P2P) networks could add significant value to OHS provided that challenges for efficient discovery and prompt delivery of rich and up-to-date content are successfully addressed. This paper proposes an architecture that enables the operation of OHS over a P2P overlay network of OHS servers based on semantic annotation of (a) peer OHS servers and of (b) multimedia resources that can be obtained through the link services of the OHS. The architecture provides efficient resource discovery. Semantic query-based subscriptions over this P2P network can enable access to up-to-date content, while caching at certain peers enables prompt delivery of multimedia content. Advanced query resolution techniques are employed to match different parts of subscription queries (subqueries). These subscriptions can be shared among different interested peers, thus increasing the efficiency of multimedia content dissemination

Report on the EHCR (Deliverable 26.2)
This deliverable is the second for Workpackage 26. The first, submitted after
Month 12, summarised the areas of research that the partners had identified as
being relevant to the semantic indexing of the EHR. This second one reports
progress on the key threads of work identified by the partners during the project to
contribute towards semantically interoperable and processable EHRs.
This report provides a set of short summaries on key topics that have emerged as
important, and to which the partners are able to make strong contributions. Some of
these are also being extended via two new EU Framework 6 proposals that include
WP26 partners: this is also a measure of the success of this Network of Excellence
maigesPack: A Computational Environment for Microarray Data Analysis
Microarray technology is still an important way to assess gene expression in
molecular biology, mainly because it measures expression profiles for thousands
of genes simultaneously, what makes this technology a good option for some
studies focused on systems biology. One of its main problem is complexity of
experimental procedure, presenting several sources of variability, hindering
statistical modeling. So far, there is no standard protocol for generation and
evaluation of microarray data. To mitigate the analysis process this paper
presents an R package, named maigesPack, that helps with data organization.
Besides that, it makes data analysis process more robust, reliable and
reproducible. Also, maigesPack aggregates several data analysis procedures
reported in literature, for instance: cluster analysis, differential
expression, supervised classifiers, relevance networks and functional
classification of gene groups or gene networks
Molecular analysis of the early interaction between the grapevine flower and Botrytis cinerea reveals that prompt activation of specific host pathways leads to fungus quiescence
Grape quality and yield can be impaired by bunch rot, caused by the necrotrophic fungus Botrytis cinerea. Infection often occurs at flowering, and the pathogen stays quiescent until fruit maturity. Here, we report a molecular analysis of the early interaction between B. cinerea and Vitis vinifera flowers, using a controlled infection system, confocal microscopy and integrated transcriptomic and metabolic analysis of the host and the pathogen. Flowers from fruiting cuttings of the cultivar Pinot Noir were infected with green fluorescent protein (GFP)-labelled B. cinerea and studied at 24 and 96 hours post-inoculation (h.p.i.). We observed that penetration of the epidermis by B. cinerea coincided with increased expression of genes encoding cell-wall-degrading enzymes, phytotoxins and proteases. Grapevine responded with a rapid defence reaction involving 1193 genes associated with the accumulation of antimicrobial proteins, polyphenols, reactive oxygen species and cell wall reinforcement. At 96 h.p.i., the reaction appears largely diminished both in the host and in the pathogen. Our data indicate that the defence responses of the grapevine flower collectively are able to restrict invasive fungal growth into the underlying tissues, thereby forcing the fungus to enter quiescence until the conditions become more favourable to resume pathogenic development
