    Fuzzy Logic Based Negotiation in E-Commerce

    The evolution of multi-agent system (MAS) presents new challenges in computer science and software engineering. A particularly challenging problem is the design of various forms of interaction among agents. Interaction may be aimed at enabling agents to coordinate their activities, cooperate to reach common objectives, or exchange resources to better achieve their individual objectives. This thesis is dealing with negotiation in e-commerce: a process through which multiple self-interested agents can reach agreement over the exchange of scarce resources. In particular, we present a fuzzy logic-based negotiation approach to automate multi-issue bilateral negotiation in e-marketplaces. In such frameworks issues to negotiate on can be multiple, interrelated, and may not be fixed in advance. Therefore, we use fuzzy inference system to model relations among issues and to allow agents express their preferences on them. We focus on settings where agents have limited or uncertain information, ruling them out from making optimal decisions. Since agents make decisions based on particular underlying reasons, namely their interests, beliefs then applying logic (by using fuzzy logic) over these reasons can enable agents to refine their decisions and consequently reach better agreements. I refer to this form of negotiation as: Fuzzy logic based negotiation in e-commerce. The contributions of the thesis begin with the use of fuzzy logic to design a reasoning model through which negotiation tactics and strategy are expressed throughout the process of negotiation. Then, an exploration of the differences between this approach and the more traditional bargaining-based approaches is presented. Strategic issues are then explored and a methodology for designing negotiation strategies is developed. Finally, the applicability of the framework is simulated using MATLAB toolbox

    Computational intelligence based complex adaptive system-of-systems architecture evolution strategy

    The dynamic planning for a system-of-systems (SoS) is a challenging endeavor. Large scale organizations and operations constantly face challenges to incorporate new systems and upgrade existing systems over a period of time under threats, constrained budget and uncertainty. It is therefore necessary for the program managers to be able to look at the future scenarios and critically assess the impact of technology and stakeholder changes. Managers and engineers are always looking for options that signify affordable acquisition selections and lessen the cycle time for early acquisition and new technology addition. This research helps in analyzing sequential decisions in an evolving SoS architecture based on the wave model through three key features namely; meta-architecture generation, architecture assessment and architecture implementation. Meta-architectures are generated using evolutionary algorithms and assessed using type II fuzzy nets. The approach can accommodate diverse stakeholder views and convert them to key performance parameters (KPP) and use them for architecture assessment. On the other hand, it is not possible to implement such architecture without persuading the systems to participate into the meta-architecture. To address this issue a negotiation model is proposed which helps the SoS manger to adapt his strategy based on system owners behavior. This work helps in capturing the varied differences in the resources required by systems to prepare for participation. The viewpoints of multiple stakeholders are aggregated to assess the overall mission effectiveness of the overarching objective. An SAR SoS example problem illustrates application of the method.     A multi-demand negotiation model based on fuzzy rules elicited via psychological experiments

    This paper proposes a multi-demand negotiation model that takes the effect of human users’ psychological characteristics into consideration. Specifically, in our model each negotiating agent's preference over its demands can be changed, according to human users’ attitudes to risk, patience and regret, during the course of a negotiation. And the change of preference structures is determined by fuzzy logic rules, which are elicited through our psychological experiments. The applicability of our model is illustrated by using our model to solve a problem of political negotiation between two countries. Moreover, we do lots of theoretical and empirical analyses to reveal some insights into our model. In addition, to compare our model with existing ones, we make a survey on fuzzy logic based negotiation, and discuss the similarities and differences between our negotiation model and various consensus models

    INVESTIGATION OF THE ROLE OF SERVICE LEVEL AGREEMENTS IN WEB SERVICE QUALITY

    Context/Background: Use of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) is crucial to provide the value added services to consumers to achieve their requirements successfully. SLAs also ensure the expected Quality of Service to consumers. Aim: This study investigates how efficient structural representation and management of SLAs can help to ensure the Quality of Service (QoS) in Web services during Web service composition. Method: Existing specifications and structures for SLAs for Web services do not fully formalize and provide support for different automatic and dynamic behavioral aspects needed for QoS calculation. This study addresses the issues on how to formalize and document the structures of SLAs for better service utilization and improved QoS results. The Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) is extended in this study with addition of an SLAAgent, which helps to automate the QoS calculation using Fuzzy Inference Systems, service discovery, service selection, SLA monitoring and management during service composition with the help of structured SLA documents. Results: The proposed framework improves the ways of how to structure, manage and monitor SLAs during Web service composition to achieve the better Quality of Service effectively and efficiently. Conclusions: To deal with different types of computational requirements the automation of SLAs is a challenge during Web service composition. This study shows the significance of the SLAs for better QoS during composition of services in SOA

Activities span a range from basic scientific research to engineering development and to fielded NASA applications, particularly those applications that are enabled by basic research carried out at RIA. Work is conducted in-house and through collaborative partners in academia and industry. Our major focus is on a limited number of research themes with a dual commitment to technical excellence and proven applicability to NASA short, medium, and long-term problems. RIA acts as the Agency's lead organization for research aspects of artificial intelligence, working closely with a second research laboratory at JPL and AI applications groups at all NASA centers

    Exploiting the knowledge engineering paradigms for designing smart learning systems

    Knowledge engineering (KE) is a subarea of artificial intelligence (AI). Recently, KE paradigms have become more widespread within the fields of smart education and learning. Developing of Smart learning Systems (SLS) is very difficult from the technological perspective and a challenging task. In this paper, three KE paradigms, namely: case-based reasoning, data mining, and intelligent agents are discussed. This article demonstrates how SLS can take advantage of the innovative KE paradigms. Therefore, the paper addresses the pros of such smart computing approaches for the industry of SLS. Moreover, we concentrate our discussion on the challenges faced by knowledge engineers and software developers in developing and deploying efficient and robust SLS. Overall, this study introduces the reader the KE techniques, approaches and algorithms currently in use and the open research issues in designing the smart learning systems.Инженерия знаний (ИЗ) – это подобласть искусственного интеллекта (ИИ). В последнее время парадигмы ИЗ и умных вычислений получают все более широкое распространение в сфере умного образования и обучения. Разработка систем умного обучения (СУО) является очень трудной с технологической точки зрения и сложной задачей. В данной статье мы изучили три парадигмы ИЗ, а именно рассуждения на основе прецедентов, интеллектуальный анализ данных и интеллектуальные агенты. Наше исследование указывает на то, что такие парадигмы могут эффективно использоваться для СУОІнженерія знань (ІЗ) – це пiдобласть штучного інтелекту (ШІ). Останнім часом парадигми ШІ та розумних обчислень отримують все більш широке поширення в сферi розумної освіти i навчання.
