    A User Readiness Model of Social Media for Learning among Polytechnic Students in Nigeria

    The adoption of Internet resources for learning continues to grow in the world today. Despite the abundant benefit of utilizing social media due to the growth of web 2.0, an internet resource for communication and interaction, its use has not been fully embraced as a teaching tool in Nigeria. Social media is becoming a prominent communication tool and found to be facilitating teaching and learning activities among students. However, the user readiness of social media in learning by the students has been challenging. Despite the wide acceptance of social media (such as Facebook, Twitter, and WhatsApp, e.t.c.) amongst Nigerian polytechnic students, they do not utilize it for academic pursuit. This study examined the Use of Social Media among students in Nigerian Polytechnics. The main objective of this study is to find out the user readiness’ factors that influence the use of social media by the students in Nigerian Polytechnic. The evaluation results show that social media is an indispensable Internet platform among Nigerian Polytechnic students

    Using Social Media to Improve Student-Instructor Communication in an Online Learning Environment

    The lack of effective faculty-student interaction has been identified as a main contributor to the high dropout rate in online education. For this paper, the authors conducted an empirical study using a social networking tool, specifically Facebook, to improve student-instructor communication and student performance in an online learning environment. They recruited three sections of an introductory IT course at a public university and divided them into two groups: (1) a treatment group where Facebook was used as an additional communication tool and (2) a control group where the course setting wasn\u27t changed. The authors surveyed the participants\u27 opinions on the use of Facebook in the treatment group, and collected participants\u27 academic performance data for both the treatment and control groups. Their research findings show that the use of Facebook as a supplemental communication method can help an instructor better reach out to students, reduce a course\u27s failure rate, and improve student course performance

    Improving Students’ 21st Century Skills Through Creative Writing as A Creative Media

    The ability to improve students’ 21st century skills using creative writing is truly one of the most revolutionary developments in modern creative English education. This type of education, however, is not without its challenges, the way of using creative projects as the creative media to improve writing skills experiences showed the students and the teachers as well that to improve ‘21st century skills’ through creative writing is imaginative, and creative way. This study conducted an observation of design students at the University of Indraprasta PGRI Jakarta, especially their projects and literature study. The qualitative method with an integrated creative approach of 4C’s is used to analyze the creative writing elements of students’ creative projects as a creative media. The results of this study are useful to be used as a reference in improving students’ 21st century skills and creative writing skills as well by using those Creative Writing projects as a creative media.     Dampak Media Sosial terhadap Kegiatan Kesenian Mahasiswa

    The purpose of this study was to describe the factors and impact of social media on art activities on art students in Lombok Timur. The method used is quantitative by survey analysis using questionnaires to collect data from 164 art students at universities in Lombok Timur. The results of this finding that the habit factor of students using social media dominates more, in addition to the intensity factor of watching art activities. On the utilization factor makes more art products, although the attendance factor at art activities directly also supports. The condition factor of society, namely religion dominates the use of social media in addition to language, art, and tradition. Location factor in accessing more at home than on campus, internet café or recreation place. The impact of social media shows that on student art activities are strongly influenced by the use of social media. The majority of students agree that social media does not damage student activities, besides social media is very instrumental in designing artworks, encouraging creativity and being a motivation to promote their work. Conclusions from this study are habit factors, influence factors, intensity factors, utilization factors, direct attendance factors, community condition factors, and factors where the use of media is very determining art activities by art students.     Media Sosial dan Perubahan pada Anak Remaja: Implikasi terhadap Etika Berbahasa dan Karakter

    Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pengaruh media sosial TikTok dan Facebook terhadap kemunduran etika berbahasa dan perubahan karakter pada anak remaja. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan wawancara mendalam dan observasi partisipatif untuk mengumpulkan data dari sejumlah responden siswa yang aktif menggunakan media sosial TikTok dan Facebook. Data yang dikumpulkan dianalisis secara tematis untuk mengidentifikasi pola perilaku dan perubahan karakter yang terjadi pada anak remaja seiring dengan penggunaan media sosial. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan media sosial TikTok dan Facebook memiliki dampak yang signifikan pada etika berbahasa dan karakter anak remaja. Ditemukan bahwa beberapa responden cenderung menggunakan bahasa yang kurang sopan atau informal di platform media sosial, yang menunjukkan kemunduran dalam etika berbahasa. Selain itu, penggunaan media sosial juga mempengaruhi perubahan karakter dengan adanya peningkatan terhadap perilaku yang mengikuti trend atau opini publik tanpa pertimbangan yang matang. Simpulannya adalah penggunaan media sosial TikTok dan Facebook berdampak negatif pada etika berbahasa dan karakter anak remaja, ditandai dengan perilaku dan bahasa kurang sopan.   Kata Kunci: Etika Berbahasa, Media Sosial, Perubahan Karakte

    Penggunaan Media Whatsapp pada Pembelajaran serta Pengaruhnya terhadap Motivasi dan Gaya Belajar Siswa Selama Pandemi Covid-19

    This study aims to determine the effect of using WhatsApp media on students' motivation and learning styles during the Covid-19 pandemic. The type of research used is descriptive quantitative research. The subjects of this study were 115 students with a sampling technique that was proportionate stratified random sampling while the data collection technique used was a questionnaire. Data analysis techniques using hypothesis testing. The results of this study are that learning using WhatsApp has a positive effect on motivation, especially on the indicators of diligence, punctual, tenacity, courage to ask, curiosity, happy and active. In addition, learning using WhatsApp also has a positive effect on learning styles, especially in the very high visual learning style indicator, but medium auditory learning style, and low kinesthetic learning style because it doesn't require much movement. The conclusion of this study is that the use of WhatsApp media in learning has a positive effect on motivation and learning styles during Covid-19.   Keywords: Learning styles, Learning Motivation, WhatsAp

    The extent to which emotional intelligence, locus of control and self-efficacy contribute to the perception of online learning

    Online learning is now entrenched in the mainstream educational system and continues to provide educational opportunities for millions of Americans. However, as online education increases, there is a need to improve the quality of education. This dissertation examines the extent to which emotional intelligence, locus of control, and self- efficacy contribute to the perception of online learning. The applied research methodology was a quantitative cross-correlational design. The statistical population was 156 online students selected from a Midwest university. A survey containing 21 items with Likert-type responses was developed to assess students\u27 overall perceptions of online learning. The research questions for this study integrated emotional intelligence, locus of control, and self-efficacy concepts. The result indicated a statistically significant correlation for males and is inconsistent with extant literature that has examined students\u27 perception of online learning. Additionally, study findings indicated a statistically significant relationship among emotional intelligence, locus of control, and self-efficacy with regard to students’ online learning. This will help learners cultivate emotional intelligence, locus of control, and self-efficacy, and importance of competence in students\u27 success in online learning
