    En el diseño de "interfaces para todo el mundo" para los sistemas interactivos, es importante tener en cuenta factores como el costo, el mercado de destino, el estado del medio ambiente,etc. Los interfaces de usuario son fundamentales para el proceso de desarrollo de cualquier aplicaciĂłn, y su diseño debe estar contemplado desde el principio. De las distintas partes de un sistema (hardware y software), es la interfaz el sistema que permite al usuario el acceso a los recursos informĂĄticos. Los siete principios del "Diseño Universal" o "Diseño para Todos" se centran en un diseño utilizable universal, pero al mismo tiempo reconocer la influencia de factores internos y externos. Los cambios estructurales en los servicios sociales y de salud podrĂ­an proporcionar un aumento en el bienestar de los ciudadanos de un paĂ­s a travĂ©s del uso de la programaciĂłn de auto-cuidado y la gestiĂłn proactiva / prevenciĂłn de la enfermedad. Plataformas automatizadas en el hogar pueden actuar como un instrumento que permitan a los usuarios evitar, compensar, mitigar o neutralizar las deficiencias y las dependencias causada por el envejecimiento.When designing “interfaces for everyone” for interactive systems, it is important to consider factors such as cost, the intended market, the state of the environment, etc. User interfaces are fundamental for the developmental process in any application, and its design must be contemplated from the start. Of the distinct parts of a system (hardware and software), it is the interface that permits the user access to computer resources. The seven principles of “Universal Design” or “Design for Everyone” focus on a universal usable design, but at the same time acknowledge the influences of internal and external factors.     Stakeholder involvement, motivation, responsibility, communication: How to design usable security in e-Science

    e-Science projects face a difficult challenge in providing access to valuable computational resources, data and software to large communities of distributed users. Oil the one hand, the raison d'etre of the projects is to encourage members of their research communities to use the resources provided. Oil the other hand, the threats to these resources from online attacks require robust and effective Security to mitigate the risks faced. This raises two issues: ensuring that (I) the security mechanisms put in place are usable by the different users of the system, and (2) the security of the overall system satisfies the security needs of all its different stakeholders. A failure to address either of these issues call seriously jeopardise the success of e-Science projects.The aim of this paper is to firstly provide a detailed understanding of how these challenges call present themselves in practice in the development of e-Science applications. Secondly, this paper examines the steps that projects can undertake to ensure that security requirements are correctly identified, and security measures are usable by the intended research community. The research presented in this paper is based Oil four case studies of c-Science projects. Security design traditionally uses expert analysis of risks to the technology and deploys appropriate countermeasures to deal with them. However, these case studies highlight the importance of involving all stakeholders in the process of identifying security needs and designing secure and usable systems.For each case study, transcripts of the security analysis and design sessions were analysed to gain insight into the issues and factors that surround the design of usable security. The analysis concludes with a model explaining the relationships between the most important factors identified. This includes a detailed examination of the roles of responsibility, motivation and communication of stakeholders in the ongoing process of designing usable secure socio-technical systems such as e-Science.     Embedding accessibility and usability: considerations for e-learning research and development projects

    This paper makes the case that if e‐learning research and development projects are to be successfully adopted in real‐world teaching and learning contexts, then they must effectively address accessibility and usability issues; and that these need to be integrated throughout the project. As such, accessibility and usability issues need to be made explicit in project documentation, along with allocation of appropriate resources and time. We argue that accessibility and usability are intrinsically inter‐linked. An integrated accessibility and usability evaluation methodology that we have developed is presented and discussed.     User expectations of partial driving automation capabilities and their effect on information design preferences in the vehicle

    Partially automated vehicles present interface design challenges in ensuring the driver remains alert should the vehicle need to hand back control at short notice, but without exposing the driver to cognitive overload. To date, little is known about driver expectations of partial driving automation and whether this affects the information they require inside the vehicle. Twenty-five participants were presented with five partially automated driving events in a driving simulator. After each event, a semi-structured interview was conducted. The interview data was coded and analysed using grounded theory. From the results, two groupings of driver expectations were identified: High Information Preference (HIP) and Low Information Preference (LIP) drivers; between these two groups the information preferences differed. LIP drivers did not want detailed information about the vehicle presented to them, but the definition of partial automation means that this kind of information is required for safe use. Hence, the results suggest careful thought as to how information is presented to them is required in order for LIP drivers to safely using partial driving automation. Conversely, HIP drivers wanted detailed information about the system's status and driving and were found to be more willing to work with the partial automation and its current limitations. It was evident that the drivers' expectations of the partial automation capability differed, and this affected their information preferences. Hence this study suggests that HMI designers must account for these differing expectations and preferences to create a safe, usable system that works for everyone.     We report part of the design experience gained in X-Media, a system for knowledge management and sharing. Consolidated techniques of interaction design (scenario-based design) had to be revisited to capture the richness and complexity of intelligent interactive systems. We show that the design of intelligent systems requires methodologies (faceted scenarios) that support the investigation of intelligent features and usability factors simultaneously. Interaction designers become mediators between intelligent technology and users, and have to facilitate reciprocal understanding

    Suggestion systems: a usability-based evaluation model

    Usability has been used to design and assess products and websites. This paper takes the concept of usability one step further and proposes a framework to assess suggestion systems. Thus taking the concept of usability one step further and applying it in the area of ideas management through suggestion system. The fundamental premise of the article is that a suggestion system designed, with usability in mind, will improve innovation among employees, and hence increase participation. This framework was then used to assess four suggestion systems in an oil and gas company in the middle-east. These systems were further assessed for employee perception of their usability and participation. After collecting data on these three different aspects conclusions are drawn. Out of the four systems analyzed, the most usable suggestion system had the highest participation rate and the least usable system attracted the fewest suggestions

    Online Shopping and Web-Accessibility: Strategies to Ensure Equal Access to Blind Users in E-commerce Platforms

    Online shopping has become vastly popular and is easily accessible to people worldwide. Considering the accessibility criteria, many brands are yet to incorporate it into their online interfaces. Most brands have been following the trend of creating beautiful and appealing web layouts that are usable but not accessible to everyone. Most visually impaired Internet users rely on assistive devices such as screen readers or magnifiers to make websites readable and usable (Herndon, 2019). Despite having accessibility guidelines for over a decade, disabled users still have problems using websites because of how the content is put out (Information Architecture). We as designers have a limited understanding of the challenges that blind users face while accessing the internet. Following my REB (Research Ethics Board) approval (#2022-05), participants were recruited and interviewed to help identify a list of issues they encounter while shopping online, which would then help in developing visual interface design solutions. The WCAG 2.0 (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) rules would be assessed to address the accessibility issues raised, and new adjustments would be proposed to improve the existing guidelines regarding user experience and interface design

    A Universalist strategy for the design of Assistive Technology

    Assistive Technologies are specialized products aiming to partly compensate for the loss of autonomy experienced by disabled people. Because they address special needs in a highly-segmented market, they are often considered as niche products. To improve their design and make them tend to Universality, we propose the EMFASIS framework (Extended Modularity, Functional Accessibility, and Social Integration Strategy). We ïŹrst elaborate on how this strategy conciliates niche and Universalist views, which may appear conïŹ‚icting at ïŹrst sight. We then present three examples illustrating its application for designing Assistive Technologies: the design of an overbed table, an upper-limb powered orthose and a powered wheelchair. We conclude on the expected outcomes of our strategy for the social integration and participation of disabled people
