    THE EXPLORATION OF CLINICIANS’ LIVED EXPERIENCES IN CULTURALLY ADAPTING EMPIRICALLY SUPPORTED TREATMENTS FOR AMERICAN INDIAN AND ALASKA NATIVE POPULATIONS

    This study investigated the lived experiences of clinicians who have culturally adapted Empirically Supported Treatments (EST) for American Indian/Alaskan Native (AI/AN) populations. The central research question for this investigation was: What is the experience of mental health providers in culturally adapting empirically supported treatments for American Indian and Alaska Native populations? A guided semi-structured interview protocol was used to interview eight participants. Giorgi’s descriptive phenomenological psychological method was used to develop a general psychological structure representing eight essential constituents. They are: developing an understanding of cultural adaptation, focusing on building and maintaining therapeutic relationships, immersion and engagement with community, experiencing conflict between Western and Indigenous epistemology, navigating the use of empirically supported treatments, supporting traditional and culturally developed ways of healing, clinicians’ ability to embody cultural humility and increase cultural competency, and coping with external factors. Implications for practitioners, treatment developers, funders, academic programs, clients, and the counseling field are provided. Lastly, recommendations derived directly from the data, arising from limitations of the study, based on delimitations, and those relevant to the research problem are discussed

    Writing of this final project aims to build a prototype system that functions to control the process of opening and closing dam’s door automatically. Making these tools also to provide information on water levels in the dam. Automatic door dam prototype based microcontroller and atmega 16 is a tool that designed specifically to simulate automatically dam doors. This tool will work in accordance with the conditions of the water level. When the water level go up, the door dam will open automatically dam the door will close when the water level drops. The method used in constructing the dam door prototype based automated ATmega 16 using the method of design that consists of several stages: (1) identification of requirements, (2) Needs Analysis, (3) design of hardware and software, (4) tool-making, (5) Testing Tool and (6) Operational Equipment. The hardware consists of (1) The minimum ATmega16 as the main controller, (2) water level sensor (water level control) as the water level detector, (3) and infrared light sensor photodiode as a detector height of the dam doors, (4) DC motors as driver door dam and (4) LCD as the viewer height and the height of the dam door. Based on the results of testing that has been done, it can be concluded that a prototype tool based automatic door ATmega 16 dams can work well in accordance with the working principles designed. The performance of the tool is observed by looking at the condition of the sensor exposed to water. If the condition of the water in the dam go up to the maximum condition, then the motor will move "open" the door dam in stages according to water conditions in the tank. If the condition of the water in the dam down to the minimum, then the motor will move "close" the door dam in stages according to water conditions in the tank and the high information and high water doors will be displayed on the LCD.     A Home Security System Based on Smartphone Sensors

    Several new smartphones are released every year. Many people upgrade to new phones, and their old phones are not put to any further use. In this paper, we explore the feasibility of using such retired smartphones and their on-board sensors to build a home security system. We observe that door-related events such as opening and closing have unique vibration signatures when compared to many types of environmental vibrational noise. These events can be captured by the accelerometer of a smartphone when the phone is mounted on a wall near a door. The rotation of a door can also be captured by the magnetometer of a smartphone when the phone is mounted on a door. We design machine learning and threshold-based methods to detect door opening events based on accelerometer and magnetometer data and build a prototype home security system that can detect door openings and notify the homeowner via email, SMS and phone calls upon break-in detection. To further augment our security system, we explore using the smartphone’s built-in microphone to detect door and window openings across multiple doors and windows simultaneously. Experiments in a residential home show that the accelerometer- based detection can detect door open events with an accuracy higher than 98%, and magnetometer-based detection has 100% accuracy. By using the magnetometer method to automate the training phase of a neural network, we find that sound-based detection of door openings has an accuracy of 90% across multiple doors
