Distributed Access View Integrated Database (DAVID) system
The Distributed Access View Integrated Database (DAVID) System, which was adopted by the Astrophysics Division for their Astrophysics Data System, is a solution to the system heterogeneity problem. The heterogeneous components of the Astrophysics problem is outlined. The Library and Library Consortium levels of the DAVID approach are described. The 'books' and 'kits' level is discussed. The Universal Object Typer Management System level is described. The relation of the DAVID project with the Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) program is explained
Dynamic business process management
Open e-PRIOR is an open source e-Procurement system developed by the European Commission. Currently Open e-PRIOR system is handling simple choreographies based on the exchange of a single main object. However, these different objects are related and part of larger business process and by handling the objects separately the full overview is lost.
Business process management (BPM) helps organizations to understand and maintain complicated business workflow. This master thesis focuses on how BPM can provide a way to monitor the full business process and provide information to the stakeholders using the e-Prior system.
The first part of the thesis explores the business context and relevant capabilities of the open e-PRIOR system. Secondly candidate BPM tools are compared against the modeling needs to select the most suitable one. Thereafter, Logical view of open e-PRIOR is re-designed and a new logical model of the open e-PRIOR system is proposed by implementing business process management system. Finally, a business process management task is designed and implemented by a business process management tool
Submission of content to a digital object repository using a configurable workflow system
The prototype of a workflow system for the submission of content to a digital
object repository is here presented. It is based entirely on open-source
standard components and features a service-oriented architecture. The front-end
consists of Java Business Process Management (jBPM), Java Server Faces (JSF),
and Java Server Pages (JSP). A Fedora Repository and a mySQL data base
management system serve as a back-end. The communication between front-end and
back-end uses a SOAP minimal binding stub. We describe the design principles
and the construction of the prototype and discuss the possibilities and
limitations of work ow creation by administrators. The code of the prototype is
open-source and can be retrieved in the project escipub at

Crisis' Heritage Management - New Business Opportunities Out of the Financial Collapse
This paper intends to present the opportunities emerging for the national
economy, out of the financial crisis. In particular the management of those,
which arise from the commercial real estate owned property sector, defined by
the author as crisis heritage management. On one hand, as real estate property
prices are subject of wide fluctuations, the longer possession of such assets
can seriously impact the financial condition of the already shattered financial
institutions, but on the on other - with the help of professional and proactive
management, and the right kind of attitude by all the stakeholders, the
heritage left out of the financial collapse, can not only help stabilize the
system - bringing liquidity into it, but can also support its healthy corporate
governance in the long-term. The properties themselves (business buildings,
warehouses, retail-and-office spaces), being an object of optimization of
maintenance costs, re-engineering, intensive marketing, as a result of the
crisis, can serve as a solid base for number of new and profitable business and
investment opportunities, described in the article, as a proof of the healing
effect of the financial crisis and the second chance it gives.Comment: Presented at the 2013 Sofia Business School Master Classes in Global

A hybrid approach to workflow modelling
The increase in Business Process Management projects in the past decade has seen an increase in demand for business process modelling techniques. A rapidly growing aspect of BPM is the use of workflow management systems to automate routine and sequential processes. Workflows tend to move away from traditional definitions of business processes can often be forced to fit a model which does not suit its nature. Existing process modelling tools tend to be biased to either the informational, behavioural or object oriented aspect of the workflow. Because of this, models can often miss important aspects of a workflow. As well as managing the relationship between the types of model it is important to consider who will be using it as process models are useful in various ways. This paper reports on a case study in a manufacturing company where users were surveyed to see which are the notation that are most common in modelling based on two main categories (behavioural and informational). Research outcomes showed that there is no prevailing set of standards used for either of these categories, whilst most user feel the need to use more than one approach to model their system at any given time
Basis of the Language for the Business Processes Description in Information Systems
The automation of business processes performance provides the computerization of management processes in information systems. It is possible to achieve this aim using the strict formal description of the automation object. The main idea of the proposed approach consists in the basic description of business processes on the basis of the formal language that allows to model, to design and to verify the program implementation of the management system and the business process model. The language for the description of the business processes performance is developed for the implementation of the main ideas of the management theory as an option of the logical-mathematical language
