Structure and Behaviour of Virtual Organisation Breeding Environments
This paper provides an outline of a formal approach that we are developing
for modelling Virtual Organisations (VOs) and their Breeding Environments
(VBEs). We propose different levels of representation for the functional
structures and processes that VBEs and VOs involve, which are independent of
the specificities of the infrastructures (organisational and technical) that
support the functioning of VBEs. This allows us to reason about properties of
tasks performed within VBEs and services provided through VOs without
committing to the way in which they are implemented
Bootstrapping opportunistic networks using social roles
Opportunistic routing protocols can enable message delivery in disconnected networks of mobile devices. To conserve energy in mobile environments, such routing protocols must minimise unnecessary message-forwarding. This paper presents an opportunistic routing protocol that leverages social role information. We compute node roles from a social network graph to identify nodes with similar contact relationships, and use these roles to determine routing decisions. By using pre-existing social network information, such as online social network friends, to determine roles, we show that our protocol can bootstrap a new opportunistic network without the delay incurred by encounter-history-based routing protocols such as SimbetTS. Simulations with four real-world datasets show improved performance over SimbetTS, with performance approaching Epidemic routing in some scenarios.Postprin
Creating a Relational Distributed Object Store
In and of itself, data storage has apparent business utility. But when we can
convert data to information, the utility of stored data increases dramatically.
It is the layering of relation atop the data mass that is the engine for such
conversion. Frank relation amongst discrete objects sporadically ingested is
rare, making the process of synthesizing such relation all the more
challenging, but the challenge must be met if we are ever to see an equivalent
business value for unstructured data as we already have with structured data.
This paper describes a novel construct, referred to as a relational distributed
object store (RDOS), that seeks to solve the twin problems of how to
persistently and reliably store petabytes of unstructured data while
simultaneously creating and persisting relations amongst billions of objects.Comment: 12 pages, 5 figure

SOLACE: A framework for electronic negotiations
Copyright @ 2011 Walter de Gruyter GmbHMost existing frameworks for electronic negotiations today are tied to specific negotiation systems for which they were developed, preventing them from being applied to other negotiation scenarios. Thus, the evaluation of electronic negotiation systems is difficult as each one is based on a different framework. Additionally, each developer has to design a new framework for any system to be developed, leading to a âreinvention of the wheelâ. This paper presents SOLACEâa generic framework for multi-issue negotiations, which can be applied to a variety of negotiation scenarios. In contrast with other frameworks for electronic negotiations, SOLACE supports hybrid systems in which the negotiation participants can be humans, agents or a combination of the two. By recognizing the importance of strategies in negotiations and incorporating a time attribute in negotiation proposals, SOLACE enhances existing approaches and provides a foundation for the flexible electronic negotiation systems of the future
