A Comment on the Relationship Between Differential and Dimensional Renormalization

    Get PDF
We show that there is a very simple relationship between differential and dimensional renormalization of low-order Feynman graphs in renormalizable massless quantum field theories. The beauty of the differential approach is that it achieves the same finite results as dimensional renormalization without the need to modify the space time dimension

Multi-View Graph Fusion for Semi-Supervised Learning: Application to Image-Based Face Beauty Prediction

Facial Beauty Prediction (FBP) is an important visual recognition problem to evaluate the attractiveness of faces according to human perception. Most existing FBP methods are based on supervised solutions using geometric or deep features. Semi-supervised learning for FBP is an almost unexplored research area. In this work, we propose a graph-based semi-supervised method in which multiple graphs are constructed to find the appropriate graph representation of the face images (with and without scores). The proposed method combines both geometric and deep feature-based graphs to produce a high-level representation of face images instead of using a single face descriptor and also improves the discriminative ability of graph-based score propagation methods. In addition to the data graph, our proposed approach fuses an additional graph adaptively built on the predicted beauty values. Experimental results on the SCUTFBP-5500 facial beauty dataset demonstrate the superiority of the proposed algorithm compared to other state-of-the-art methods

Diffractive Excitation of Heavy Flavors: Leading Twist Mechanisms

    Get PDF
Diffractive production of heavy flavors is calculated within the light-cone dipole approach. Novel leading twist mechanisms are proposed, which involve both short and long transverse distances inside the incoming hadron. Nevertheless, the diffractive cross section turns out to be sensitive to the primordial transverse momenta of projectile gluons, rather than to the hadronic size. Our calculations agree with the available data for diffractive production of charm and beauty, and with the observed weak variation of the diffraction-to-inclusive cross section ratios as function of the hard scale.Comment: Latex, 19 pages, 12 figures. Sanitation Management in Salons in the Upper West Region: An Assessment of Disease Prevention Strategies and Safety Promotion Measures

    Get PDF
The fast growing beauty services provision in the entire beauty industry coupled with the widespread existence of preventable diseases in the country call for concern for sanitation issues in the sector. As the sector contributes significantly to employment and income generation for many of the unemployed, due attention is required for the health of the people. This research was conducted to assess sanitary practices in the salon, promote operational safety and prevent disease infection among clients in the beauty industry in the Upper West Region of Ghana. The research adopted descriptive studies with the cross-sectional design where a sample size of 211 and 200 respondents for both clients and practitioners respectively were interviewed.  Together with focus group discussions from beautician associations, the data was teased out into the SPSS for conversion into graphs, charts and tables for the analysis. Low literacy rates among beauticians coupled with poor sanitation practices. The spread of diseases could possibly result from multiple usage of disposables materials and cover cloths. Equipment and tools sanitizing were found to be highly organized while feeling of safety among clients were very high. Keywords: sanitation, disease infection, saety, health conscious or promotion, irregularitie

Martin Gardner and His Influence on Recreational Math

    Get PDF
Recreational mathematics is a relatively new field in the world of mathematics. While sometimes overlooked as frivolous since those who practice it need no advanced knowledge of the subject, recreational mathematics is a perfect transition for people to experience the joy in logically establishing a solution. Martin Gardner recognized that this pattern of proving solutions to questions is how mathematics progresses. From his childhood on, Gardner greatly influenced the mathematical world. Although not a mathematician, he inspired many to pursue careers and make advancements in mathematics during his 25-year career with Scientific American. He encouraged novices to expand their knowledge, enlightened professionals of computer science developments, and established his own proofs
