Determinants of Corporate Web Services Adoption: A Survey of Companies in Korea

    Get PDF
Despite growing interest and attention from Information Technology researchers and practitioners, empirical research on factors that influence an organization’s likelihood of adoption of Web services has been limited. This study reports an empirical analysis of survey data to identify the influencing factors and demographic characteristics related to Web services adoption intention—based on whether to adopt and when to adopt Web services—from the perspective of 129 South Korean firms. The survey questionnaire respondents were an individual in each firm who typically advised the key person who would be making the decision to adopt Web services technology. The determining factors of Web services adoption were identified from both in-depth interviews with Web services experts and a literature review. The questionnaire was pretested with a pilot survey of seventy-four South Korean firms. Logistic regression was the main statistical analysis method, and the test showed significant correlation between some factors and whether to adopt. Important factors are business benefit driver (BBD), readiness (RD), and trust (TRUST)

Dynamic random testing of web services: a methodology and evaluation

In recent years, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) has been increasingly adopted to develop distributed applications in the context of the Internet. To develop reliable SOA-based applications, an important issue is how to ensure the quality of web services. In this paper, we propose a dynamic random testing (DRT) technique for web services, which is an improvement over the widely-practiced random testing (RT) and partition testing (PT). We examine key issues when adapting DRT to the context of SOA, including a framework, guidelines for parameter settings, and a prototype for such an adaptation. Empirical studies are reported where DRT is used to test three real-life web services, and mutation analysis is employed to measure the effectiveness. Our experimental results show that, compared with the three baseline techniques, RT, Adaptive Testing (AT) and Random Partition Testing (RPT), DRT demonstrates higher fault-detection effectiveness with a lower test case selection overhead. Furthermore, the theoretical guidelines of parameter setting for DRT are confirmed to be effective. The proposed DRT and the prototype provide an effective and efficient approach for testing web services. IEE

Combining information seeking services into a meta supply chain of facts

The World Wide Web has become a vital supplier of information that allows organizations to carry on such tasks as business intelligence, security monitoring, and risk assessments. Having a quick and reliable supply of correct facts from perspective is often mission critical. By following design science guidelines, we have explored ways to recombine facts from multiple sources, each with possibly different levels of responsiveness and accuracy, into one robust supply chain. Inspired by prior research on keyword-based meta-search engines (e.g., metacrawler.com), we have adapted the existing question answering algorithms for the task of analysis and triangulation of facts. We present a first prototype for a meta approach to fact seeking. Our meta engine sends a user's question to several fact seeking services that are publicly available on the Web (e.g., ask.com, brainboost.com, answerbus.com, NSIR, etc.) and analyzes the returned results jointly to identify and present to the user those that are most likely to be factually correct. The results of our evaluation on the standard test sets widely used in prior research support the evidence for the following: 1) the value-added of the meta approach: its performance surpasses the performance of each supplier, 2) the importance of using fact seeking services as suppliers to the meta engine rather than keyword driven search portals, and 3) the resilience of the meta approach: eliminating a single service does not noticeably impact the overall performance. We show that these properties make the meta-approach a more reliable supplier of facts than any of the currently available stand-alone services

Implementation of Web Based GIS Application for Mapping of Health Facilities, Services and Providers in Malaysia

Background: This study is to design, develop, create, deploy, test and deliver, together with documentation, help manual and training for web based GIS application of health facilities and services under Ministry of Health, Malaysia. Methods: The system is web-based mapping and navigation can be used with Internet such as Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. The development of web mapping system was programmed by using Arc GIS Server. Tools and GIS software functions will be simplified to allow the search and analysis process can be done more easily. Results: There are four modules in the system created. First module is view for display list of health facilities in the system. Second module is search to obtain information on health facilities, services, providers and specialty. Third module is analysis for gathered an area of geographic information, get ratios facilities, services, and providers of services to the population, analysis of the buffer zone (buffer) to find coverage of a health facility for a certain distance and other geo statistical analysis. Last module is tools for issue the results of the analysis in the form of tables, graphs and maps that can be stored or printed. The system is controlled by the administrator where users need to request to use this application. Discussions: Web mapping can be expanding by using smart phones and tablet that supports Android, iOS and Windows phone. This system can also know the distribution of the disease in real time by appropriate user can update through online. Web mapping application enables user to use the GIS database has information facilities, services and service providers without having to have a deep knowledge in the field of GIS or using GIS software. Conclusions: This system assists stakeholders in the Ministry of Health in planning and developing facilities and services in Malaysia. It also to reducing the use of human resources especially in monitoring and providing health services information an

The Effect of E-portal System on Corporate Image of Universities

Internet connectivity in tertiary institutions in Africa has been summarized in three characteristics - too little, too expensive and poorly managed (African Tertiary Institutions Connectivity Survey (ATICS), 2006 report). The Internet portal system offers educational organizations the ability to track students’ needs and promote their programs and plans. This paper examines the effect of portal systems in promoting the corporate images of Universities, whereby Six Universities in Nigeria were used as an example. Survey was adopted as the method and six hundred respondents were randomly selected for this study. Three hypotheses were tested and analyzed using t-test and correlation analysis. The paper recommended that was a dire need for universities to engage the services of expert web-designers with regard to effective projection of their corporate image through graphics, colour letterin

ANALYSIS OF WEB-BASED ONLINE SERVICES FOR GPS RELATIVE AND PRECISE POINT POSITIONING TECHNIQUES

ABSTRACT Nowadays, Global Positioning System (GPS) has been used effectively in several engineering applications for the survey purposes by multiple disciplines. Web-based online services developed by several organizations; which are user friendly, unlimited and most of them are free; have become a significant alternative against the high-cost scientific and commercial software on achievement of post processing and analyzing the GPS data. When centimeter (cm) or decimeter (dm) level accuracies are desired, that can be obtained easily regarding different quality engineering applications through these services. In this paper, a test study was conducted at ISKI-CORS network; Istanbul-Turkey in order to figure out the accuracy analysis of the most used web based online services around the world (namely OPUS, AUSPOS, SCOUT, CSRS-PPP, GAPS, APPS, magicGNSS). These services use relative and precise point positioning (PPP) solution approaches. In this test study, the coordinates of eight stations were estimated by using of both online services and Bernese 5.0 scientific GPS processing software from 24-hour GPS data set and then the coordinate differences  between the online services and Bernese processing software were computed. From the evaluations, it was seen that the results for each individual differences were less than 10 mm regarding relative online service, and less than 20 mm regarding precise point positioning service. The accuracy analysis was gathered from these coordinate differences and standard deviations of the obtained coordinates from different techniques and then online services were compared to each other. The results show that the position accuracies obtained by associated online services provide high accurate solutions that may be used in many engineering applications and geodetic analysis.
