Skills and Profile of the New Role of the Translator as MT Post-editor

This paper explores the skills and profile of the new role of the translator as MT post-editor in view of the rising interest and use of MT in the translation industry. After a brief review of the relevant literature declaring post-editing (PE) as a profession on its own, the paper goes on to identify the different tasks involved in PE processes, following the work of Krings (Krings, 2001). Then, a series of competences are defined and grouped into three main categories: core competences, linguistic skills and instrumental competences. Finally, a description of the controlled translation scenario of MT PE is advanced taking into account the overall scenario of any translation project, including client description, text domain, text description, use of glossaries, MT engine, MT output quality and purpose of the translated text.Aquest article aborda les habilitats i les característiques del perfil del nou rol del traductor com a posteditor de traducció automàtica, tot i tenint en compte l'augment de l'interès en i l'ús de la traducció automàtica per part de la industria de la traducció. Després d'una breu revisió de la literatura més rellevant sobre postedició (PE) en tant que professió per ella mateixa, l'article identifica les diferents tasques implicades en els processos de PE, segons la proposta de Krings (2001). A continuació es defineix una sèrie de competències que s'agrupen en tres categories principals: competències nuclears, habilitats lingüístiques i competències instrumentals. Finalment el artículo proposa una descripció de l'escenari de traducció controlada propi de la PE de traducció automàtica, sense perdre de vista l'escenari general de qualsevol projecte de traducció, que inclou la descripció del client, el domini del text, la descripció del text, l'ús de glossaris, el motor de traducció automàtica, la qualitat de la traducció automàtica resultant i el propòsit del text traduït.Este artículo aborda las habilidades y las características del perfil del nuevo rol del traductor como poseditor de traducción automática, a la luz del aumento del interés en y del uso de la traducción automática por parte de la industria de la traducción. Después de una breve revisión de la literatura más relevante sobre posedición (PE) en tanto que profesión por sí misma, en el artículo se identifican las diferentes tareas implicadas en los procesos de PE, según la propuesta de Krings (2001). A continuación se define una serie de competencias que se agrupan en tres categorías principales: competencias nucleares, habilidades lingüísticas y competencias instrumentales. MT and Proper Nouns : how a German Model Became a Boat Operator

Writers and translators have difficulties treating proper nouns correctly. These designations represent concepts that are very likely not common knowledge. While humans can research, machines can only apply data provided. It is therefore important that proper nouns are documented in term bases and made available to MT engines.Tant redactors com traductors tenen dificultats per realitzar el tractament correcte dels noms propis. Aquestes denominacions representen conceptes que probablement no pertanyen al coneixement comú. Mentre que els humans poden recercar el concepte, les maquines només poden aplicar les dades de què disposen. Per aquest motiu, és important que els noms propis estiguin documentats a la base de dades terminològiques i que estiguin a disposició dels motors de traducció automàtica.Tanto redactores como traductores tienen dificultades para realizar el tratamiento correcto de los nombres propios. Estas denominaciones representan conceptos que probablemente no pertenezcan al conocimiento común. IMPELEMENTASI KEBIJAKAN BADAN PERTANAHAN NASIONAL TERHADAP PENGAWASAN DAN PENGENDALIAN PENGUASAAN HAK ATAS TANAH (Studi Kasus Pendaftaran Tanah di Kabupaten Lombok Barat)

Pendaftaran tanah adalah rangkaian kegiatan yang dilakukan oleh pemerintah secara terus-menerus, berkesinambungan dan teratur dengan tujuan untuk menjamin kepastian hukum. Hal ini berdasarkan Pasal 1 ayat (1) dan Pasal 3 PP Nomor 24 Tahun 1997. Idealnya kegiatan pendaftaran tanah pada kantor BPN dapat menjamin tertib administrasi pertanahan. Pada kenyataannya hal tersebut masih belum dapat dicapai, ditunjukkan oleh sistem pemetaan tanah yang tidak akurat, ketiadaan pertanggungjawaban atas produk sertifikat hak atas tanah, SDM tidak memenuhi syarat, dan teknologi yang tidak mendukung sehingga belum mengakibatkan belum dapat terciptanya tertib administrasi pertanahan. Permasalahan yang muncul adalah mengapa kebijakan BPN terhadap pengawasan dan pengendalian penguasaan hak atas tanah di Kabupaten Lombok Barat belum mencapai tertib administrasi pertanahan dan bagaimana konsep BPN terhadap pengawasan dan pengendalian penguasaan hak atas tanah di Kabupaten Lombok Barat. Metode pendekatan yang digunakan adalah pendekatan socio legal, yang melakukan penelitian terhadap dua aspek yaitu aspek legal research, yakni objek penelitian yang berupa hukum dalam arti norm (peraturan perundang-undangan) dan aspek socio research, yaitu digunakannya metode dan teori ilmu-ilmu sosial tentang hukum untuk membantu peneliti dalam melakukan analisis. Hasil penelitian adalah belum terciptanya administrasi pertanahan disebabkan pemetaan tanah yang tidak akurat, ketiadaan pertanggungjawaban atas produk sertifikat hak atas tanah, SDM tidak memenuhi syarat, teknologi yang kurang mendukung dan konsep kebijakan BPN adalah dengan meningkatkan sistem pengawasan terhadap pedoman kerja maupun prosedur kerja dalam kegiatan pendaftaran tanah dan melakukan pemeriksaan terhadap hak atas tanah terkait dengan penguasaan atas tanah, sehingga hak atas tanah akan terkendali sesuai dengan peraturan perundang-undangan yang berlaku dengan melakukan pengendalian penguasaan terhadap hak atas tanah. Saran yang penulis berikan adalah agar BPN lebih aktif dalam meningkatkan pengawasan dan pemantauan terhadap penguasaan hak atas tanah dalam kegiatan pendaftaran tanah secara konsisten

Evaluation of a pilot program that integrated generic and specific skills on engineering degree: a case study in Catalonia

The ETSEIAT recently executed pilot programs to introduce generic and specific skills into its study plans. As these pilots are now concluding, an evaluation of their efficiency has been conducted. This paper analyses the answers given by professors who were interviewed (via in-person interviews and online tests) to determine how they developed and evaluated their students’ skills. Development and implantation of a Thesaurus of Manufacturing Engineering terms

Present work shows the teaching-learning experience developed in the Department of Manufacturing Engineering of the University of Malaga. This experience is based on the need to generate a specific glossary of manufacturing engineering terms to be used as a study guide by the students. Eventually, it was decided to make a Thesaurus that would be aimed at a teaching activity. Also, it would take part in the educational innovation project PIE 13-025 of the University of Malaga, within the biennium 2013/2015. The first step consisted of the design of Thesaurus pattern, taking into account the kind of information that it was necessary include in it. Afterward, this pattern would be place on the Virtual Campus and the student would have to complete the information required. Future trends in Animal Breeding due to new genetic tecnologies

The Darwin theory of evolution by natural selection is based on three principles: (a) variation; (b) inheritance; and (c) natural selection. Here, I take these principles as an excuse to review some topics related to the future research prospects in Animal Breeding. With respect to the first principle I describe two forms of variation different from mutation that are becoming increasingly important: variation in copy number and microRNAs. With respect to the second principle I comment on the possible relevance of non-mendelian inheritance, the so-called epigenetic effects, of which the genomic imprinting is the best characterized in domestic species. Regarding selection principle I emphasize the importance of selection for social traits and how this could contribute to both productivity and animal welfare.
