Design And Development Of An Integrated Infield Collection-Transportation Machine For Oil Palm Fresh Fruit Bunch

A prototype oil palm FFB Collector-transporter was designed, developed, modified and tested at the Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Malaysia. This four-wheeled, hydrostatic drive, integrated machine was designed for collecting and transporting oil palm fresh fruit bunches in the field and unloading them directly into mainline transporters or trucks at the roadside. The overall dimension of the machine was 4750 mm for length, 2040 mm for width and 2725 mm for height. The overall construction of the machine was consisted of a main chassis and driving unit, collection assembly, operator cab, scissors lift-type fruit bin and associated hydraulic control unit. Various functional components of the machine were hydraulically operated through a solenoid control system. ACAD2000 package was employed to develop the 3D model of the prototype machine. A 29.8 kW @ 2200 rpm KUBOTA V2203-E 4- cylinder diesel engine, a 2 1 .5 gpm @ 1000 rpm VICKERS TA1 919 main hydrostatic pump, and a 14.5 gpm @ 1000 rpm SAMHYDRAULIC HIC55 driving motor were selected based on the computations made to determine the machine total engine power and total hydraulic pressure requirements for the machine to operate under local terrain conditions

Fossil resource depletion and climate change emissions: the role of physical constrictions

In terms of global warming, early peak forecasts in oil and natural gas seem reasonably good news because most emissions arise from fossil fuel burning. However, this can be misleading if coal resources are as enormous as some estimations report because a switch between low carbon content fossil fuels (oil and natural gas) and high carbon content (coal) can be envisaged. Following this hypothesis we develop peak oil and natural gas scenarios where coal supplies what is needed for levelling off fossil fuel energy as soon as oil and natural gas reach their joint peak. We estimate the implications in terms of greenhouse gas emissions and we compare them with the most pessimistic IPCC scenario. Our conclusion is, despite this IPCC scenario probably being unrealistic, the limitation of fossil fuel resources is not quite sufficient to avoid very dangerous emission future evolutions. CO2 concentrations well above 450 ppm at the end of the century are derived and, in addition, no sign of stabilization is observed.peak oil, global warming, non renewable resource models

Estatus taxonómico de Polypedilum quinquesetosum (Edwards, 1931) (Diptera, Chironomidae)

The taxonomic status of Polypedilum quinquesetosum (Edwards) is reviewed upon the study of the male holotype of the species and new findings. After the character analysis, this species belongs to the subgenus Tripodura Townes and the new combination is established. IMPACTS OF INCORPORATING LAND EXCHANGES BETWEEN FORESTRY AND AGRICULTURE IN SECTOR MODELS

The forest and agriculture sectors are linked by having a portion of their land bases suitable for use in either sector. A substantial part of the southern land base is suitable for either forestry or agriculture use, with most of forestation on U.S. agriculture land in the South. We examine how land exchanges between forestry and agriculture are influenced by specific federal conservation and farm support policies, including changes in the Conservation Reserve Program.
