SUPERMAN, a regulator of floral homeotic genes in Arabidopsis

We describe a locus, SUPERMAN, mutations in which result in extra stamens developing at the expense of the central carpels in the Arabidopsis thaliana flower. The development of superman flowers, from initial primordium to mature flower, is described by scanning electron microscopy. The development of doubly and triply mutant strains, constructed with superman alleles and previously identified homeotic mutations that cause alterations in floral organ identity, is also described. Essentially additive phenotypes are observed in superman agamous and superman apetala2 double mutants. The epistatic relationships observed between either apetala3 or pistillata and superman alleles suggest that the SUPERMAN gene product could be a regulator of these floral homeotic genes. To test this, the expression patterns of AGAMOUS and APETALA3 were examined in superman flowers. In wild-type flowers, APETALA3 expression is restricted to the second and third whorls where it is required for the specification of petals and stamens. In contrast, in superman flowers, APETALA3 expression expands to include most of the cells that would normally constitute the fourth whorl. This ectopic APETALA3 expression is proposed to be one of the causes of the development of the extra stamens in superman flowers. The spatial pattern of AGAMOUS expression remains unaltered in superman flowers as compared to wild-type flowers. Taken together these data indicate that one of the functions of the wild-type SUPERMAN gene product is to negatively regulate APETALA3 in the fourth whorl of the flower. In addition, superman mutants exhibit a loss of determinacy of the floral meristem, an effect that appears to be mediated by the APETALA3 and PISTILLATA gene products

Pembelajaran Sejarah Di Sekolah Perbatasan Indonesia-Malaysia (Studi Kasus Di SMP Negeri 4 Paloh)

This research aims to; (1) describe the history lesson planning, (2) describe the process of teaching history, (3) describe the evaluation of the teaching of history and (4) analyzing constraints experienced in the process of teaching history. This research was conducted in SMP Negeri 4 Paloh. This research method is descriptive qualitative strategy used is a single case study. Results of this study concluded that: (1) Planning historical study conducted by social studies teacher at SMPN 4 Paloh still not optimal. The teacher has not made a good learning tool. Teachers have not been applying the concept of the learning plan in accordance with the demands of the curriculum. (2) The implementation of the teaching of history in SMP Negeri 4 Paloh still conventional. In teaching, teachers use a monotonous lecture method, less innovative learning media. Learning scenarios implemented without grooves so that there are no clear stages in its implementation. Material presented teacher absolute only obeying the groove and arrangement contained in the book. (3) social studies teacher not perform an adequate evaluation of learning. The evaluation process conducted merely making students grades. Capturing the value is only used for determining the grade. (4) Obstacles encountered in the process of teaching history in SMP 4 Paloh are limited facilities and infrastructure both at school and in the community. MASYARAKAT USAHA MIKRO DI DESA PAL SEMBILAN

Permasalahan utama mitra adalah status mutu air tanah dengan tingkat pengotor tinggi dan sistem penjernihan yang telah dilakukan oleh mitra masih belum efektif. Hal ini berakibat pada penurunan kualitas produksi mitra yang jenis usahanya berkaitan langsung dengan ketersediaan air bersih. Berdasarkan permasalahan mitra, maka pengabdian bertujuan; (1) Mengetahui status mutu air di saerah mitra; (2) Membangun sistem penjernih air yang efektif, murah, dan ramah lingkungan; (3) Meningkatkan kualitas air di daerah Mitra; dan (4) Meningkatkan kuantitas dan kualitas produk serta peningkatan omzet pada mitra yang bergerak dalam bidang ekonomi. Berdasarkan tujuan, maka pengabdian yang dilakukan: (1) Status mutu air diselidiki sifat fisika dan kimia; (2) Sistem penjernih air dipersiapkan dengan metode absorbsi termodifikasi; (3) Kelayakan air bersih hasil penjernihan mengacu pada peraturan pemerintah Republik Indonesia tentang air bersih; dan (4) Peningkatkan kuantitas dan kualitas produk serta peningkatan omzet pada mitra yang bergerak dalam bidang ekonomi diamati secara simultan. Dari kegiatan pengabdian, dihasilkan: (1) Profil status mutu air didaerah mitra dengan uji padatan terlarut > 800 mg/L (melebihi batas toleransi air bersih); (2) Telah dibangun sistem penjernih air dengan menerapkan metode absorbs termodifikasi; (3) Analisis sifat fisika dan kimia menunjukkan air yang dihasilkan dari metode absorbsi termodifikasi memenuhi baku mutu air bersih; dan (4) Terdapat meningkatkan kuantitas dan kualitas produk pada mitra yang bergerak dalam bidang ekonomi dan terdapat peningkatan pemahaman dan ketrampilan masyarakat. Kata Kunci: usaha mikro, penjernih air,  metode absorbsi termodifikasi, status mutu air

PENGUATAN LITERASI DI SEKOLAH

Pokok permasalahan yang dialami mitra dalam kegiatan pengabdian ini ialah masih rendahnya minat baca siswa, sarana kegiatan literasi di sekolah masih minim ditandai dengan belum adanya perpustakaan yang representatif. Tujuan dilakukannya pengabdian ini ialah untuk meningkatkan kapasitas serta tata kelola kegiatan literasi di sekolah. Metode yang digunakan ialah dengan pembenahan sarana fisik dan pelatihan tata kelola program GLS. Hasil dari kegiatan pengabdian ini siswa memiliki minat literasi dengan disediakannya pojok literasi di kelas dan dibuatkanya perpustakaan yang memadai bagi siswa untuk belajar di perpustakaan. Adanya pojok literasi dan perpustakaan mendorong terlaksananya Gerakan Literasi Sekolah di SMP Pancasila Sungai Kakap

Many competent speakers initially judge that (i) is true and (ii) is false, though they know that (iii) is true. (i) Superman leaps more tall buildings than Clark Kent. (ii) Superman leaps more tall buildings than Superman. (iii) Superman is identical with Clark Kent. Semantic explanations of these intuitions say that (i) and (ii) really can differ in truthvalue. Pragmatic explanations deny this, and say that the intuitions are due to misleading implicatures. This paper argues that both explanations are incorrect. (i) and (ii) cannot differ in truth-value, yet the intuitions are not due to implicatures, but rather to mistakes in evaluating (i) and (ii)

IMPLEMENTATION OF DIVERGENT THINKING IN EXPLORATION OF STUDENTS' CREATIVE EFFORTS IN READING HISTORICAL SOURCES FROM THE INTERNET

In the digital era, learning history is more directed at reviving students' divergent thinking power. By applying this different way of thinking, teachers can use historical resources available on the internet. This research uses a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) to examine the idea of divergent thinking in exploring students' creative efforts in reading historical sources from the internet. Based on the results of the concept of developing different ways of thinking about historical sources, this is a form of student creativity to imagine the work of historians in using and evaluating historical sources to write history. Students can already see how ideas, especially initial ideas, that students share with historical sources shared by the teacher can lead to creative actions. And these results can be used as a benchmark for teachers on how to teach history based on the level of thinking ability and the way students learn.   Abstrak: Pada era digital, pembelajaran sejarah lebih diarahkan untuk menghidupkan daya berpikir divergen siswa. Penerapan Cara berpikir berbeda ini guru dapat menggunakan sumber sejarah yang tersedia di internet. Penelitian ini menggunakan Systematic Literature Review (SLR), untuk mengkaji gagasan divirgen thinking eksplorasi usaha kreatif siswa dalam membaca sumber sejarah dari internet. Berdasarkan hasil konsep pengembangan cara berpikir yang berbeda dalam sumber sejarah ini adalah sebagai bentuk kreativitas siswa dalam rangka membayangkan karya sejarawan dalam menggunakan dan menilai sumber sejarah untuk keperluan penulisan sejarah. Siswa sudah dapat menampilkan bagaimana gagasan, gagasan awal yang siswa ceritakan dengan sumber sejarah yang dibagikan oleh guru sebagai tindakan kreatif. Dan hasil tersebut dapat dijadikan sebagai tolak ukur dari guru bagaimana seharusnya mengajar sejarah yang sesuai dengan tingkat kemampuan berpikir dan cara siswa belajar.Artikel ini merupakan ide atau alternatif pembelajaran sejarah berdasarkan upaya kreatif yang dilakukan guru dalam memaksimalkan daya pikir siswa dalam pembelajaran sejarah di era digital dan pandemi covid 19. Salah satu cara yang dapat digunakan adalah dengan menghidupkan daya berpikir divergen atau cara berpikir yang berbeda pada siswa. Dalam konteks kehidupan, cara berpikir yang berbeda ini guru dapat menggunakan sumber sejarah yang tersedia di internet. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini menggunakan langkah-langkah sederhana, dimulai dari identifikasi masalah, pengumpulan sumber yang berkaitan dengan penelitian dan yang terakhir adalah penyajian hasil penelitian dalam bentuk diskusi. Berdasarkan hasil atau pembahasan konsep pengembangan cara berpikir yang berbeda dalam sumber sejarah ini adalah sebagai bentuk kreativitas siswa dalam rangka membayangkan karya sejarawan dalam menggunakan dan menilai sumber sejarah untuk keperluan penulisan sejarah. Siswa sudah dapat menampilkan bagaimana gagasan, gagasan awal yang siswa ceritakan dengan sumber sejarah yang dibagikan oleh guru. Dan itu adalah tindakan kreatif.
