This study seeks to explore attributes affecting the level of tourist satisfaction with and loyalty towards theatrical performance in China. Based on four focus group discussions with 31 participants, the study identifies 34 attributes that affect the level of tourist satisfaction with theatrical performance, and groups them into five categories: stage, performance, venue, service, and tourist-related attributes. The findings on tourist loyalty reveal that most of the respondents would not watch the same theatrical performance alone in the future; however, they would recommend it to others. The study concludes with a discussion of the rich and insightful findings and their implications for tourism industry practitioners

A Study on Youth Tourists' Perception of Sichuan as a Tourism Destination

    Get PDF
Tourism has become one of the most important sectors of the world’s service economy. According to UNWTO research, youth tourism is the fastest developing tourism market. As a rich tourism resource destination the Sichuan province in China has many tourism attractions to ride on this trend, and successfully cater to youth tourists’ needs. The aim of this research is to study youth tourists’ perceptions of Sichuan as a tourism destination as youth tourism is rapidly growing (WTO 2006). A questionnaire was put together based on the two independent and dependent variables. The data was collected from 356 domestic and international youth tourists (aged 15-30) who were traveling in Sichuan. The Pearson Correlation was used to test the ten hypotheses. The two independent variables are all influencing youth tourists’ perception of Sichuan as a tourism destination. Most of respondents’ perceptions are positive especially the overall perception of Sichuan. Youth tourists mainly have different perceptions on the transportation conditions in Sichuan. These findings provide tourism marketers with valuable information about youth tourists’ characteristics and their perceptions of Sichuan as a tourism destination and about the factors which influence youth perception. They also cast light on the suitable tourism products that can meet the needs of youth tourists and make more young people come and visit Sichuan

Thesis(Master) --KDI School:Master of Development Policy,2020China’s rapid and successful development of HSR network provides a sound empirical setting to analyze the effect of transport infrastructure on regional development. Did the HSR promote local economic activities in the areas near HSR stations? This study aims to empirically examine the changes in economic activities associated with the introduction of the Wuhan-Guangzhou HSR line on December 26th, 2009. For analysis, this study uses nighttime lights data from the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to proxy for local economic activities and construct an 8-year panel dataset at the township level. Using a differences-in-differences approach, the study finds that on average, townships near HSR stations have seen an increase in economic activities by 9% four years after the launch of the HSR. A series of robustness checks confirms the main result.1. Introduction 2. Literature Review 3. Background 4. Data and Summary Statistics 5. Empirical Strategy 6. Empirical Results 7. Dissertation presented as the partial requirement for obtaining a Master's degree in Information Management, specialization in Knowledge Management and Business IntelligenceIn the increasingly technology-dependent world, data is one of the key strategic resources for organizations. Often, the challenge that many decision-makers face is to determine which data and how much to collect, and what needs to be kept in their data storage. The challenge is to preserve enough information to inform decisions but doing so without overly high costs of storage and data processing cost. In this thesis, this challenge is studied in the context of a collection of mobile signaling data for studying tourists’ behavioral patterns. Given the number of mobile phones in use, and frequency of their interaction with network infrastructure and location reporting, mobile data sets represent a rich source of information for mobility studies. The objective of this research is to analyze to what extent can individual trajectories be reconstructed if only a fraction of the original location data is preserved, providing insights about the tradeoff between the volume of data available and the accuracy of reconstructed paths. To achieve this, a signaling data of 277,093 anonymized foreign travelers is sampled with different sampling rates, and the full trajectories are reconstructed, using the last seen, linear, and cubic interpolations completion methods. The results of the comparison are discussed from the perspective of data management and implications on the research, especially the results of research with lower time-density mobile phone data

The role of industrial clusters in local economic and social development: the case of tourism cluster in Guilin, China

    Get PDF
Since the 1990s, Guilin's tourism had made great progress during this period. However, the rapid development of tourism had put a significant impact on local industrial development, social and ecological environment. This had both positive effects such as generating huge economic benefits and promoting industrial upgrading and optimization, and negative impacts such as destroying the local ecological environment. How to further promote the sustainable development of tourism in Guilin, and reduce these negative effects while improving the competitiveness of Guilin's tourism? This study focused on the following issues: How did the Guilin's tourism industry cluster evolve and what were the development stages? What were the positive social and economic benefits brought by the tourism industry cluster, and what were the negative impacts brought to the region? How to promote the development of Guilin's tourism industry cluster to solve the current contradiction between human and land relations? Under the framework of life cycle theory, diamond model, this study divided the evolution stage of Guilin's tourism industry cluster, and analyzed the influencing factors and stakeholders of each stage development. The purpose was to find a sustainable development path to promote the healthy and rapid development of local tourism economic, social and ecological benefits. The study found that the Guilin's tourism industry cluster experienced a process from government initiation to multiple stakeholder drive. The interest orientation shifted from political interests to economic interests, and then from economic interests to the combination of economic interests, social interests and environmental interests. The experience of Guilin's tourism development could be summarized as follows: The government coordinated various resources, attached importance to human-land relations, strengthened the construction of various tourism systems, and launched innovative tourism products.
