In this paper, a technique for determining a set of consistent and physically motivated linear state-space transformations to be applied to the original set of linear controllers is proposed.     Gain scheduled flight control law for a flexible aircraft : A practical approach

    Abstract: This paper presents a gain-scheduling method applied to flight control law design. The method is a stabilitypreservinginterpolation technique ofexisting controllers under observer-state feedback form. Application is made on a flexible civil aircraft example considering multiple scheduling parameters. Although the interpolation technique gives powerful a priori stability guarantees, the sufficient condition to satisfy leads to conservative results in practice. We thus use a fixed observer model and check stability andperformance thanks to μ-analysis. Provided results are really satisfactory for a final controller of little complexity

    Robust scheduled control of longitudinal flight with handling quality satisfaction

    Classic flight control systems are still widely used in the industry because of acquired experience and good understanding of their structure. Nevertheless, with more stringent constraints, it becomes difficult to easily fulfil all the criteria with these classic control laws. On the other hand, modern methods can handle many constraints but fail to produce low order controllers. The following methodology proposed in this paper addresses both classic and modern flight control issues, to offer a solution that leverages the strengths of both approaches. First, an H∞ synthesis is performed in order to get controllers which satisfy handling qualities and are robust withrespect to mass and centre of gravity variations. These controllers are then reduced and structured by using robust modal control techniques. In conclusion, a self-scheduling technique is described that will schedule these controllers over the entire flight envelope

    Unstationnary control of a launcher using observer-based structures

    This paper deals with the design of a gain-scheduled controller for the attitude control of a launcher during atmospheric flight. The design is characterized by classical requirements such as phase/gain margins and flexible mode attenuations as well as time-domain constraints on the response of angle of attack to a worstcase wind profile. Moreover, these requirements must be fulfilled over the full atmospheric flight envelope and must be robust against parametric uncertainties. In order to achieve this goal, we propose a method based on minimal observer-based realizations of arbitrary stabilizing compensators. An original technique to assign the closed-loop dynamics between the state-feedback dynamics and the state-estimation dynamics is presented for the H∞ compensators case. The structure is used to mix various specifications through the Cross Standard Form(CSF) and to perform a smooth gain scheduling interpolation through an Euler-Newton algorithm of continuation

    Interpolation for gain-scheduled control with guarantees

    Here, a methodology is presented which considers the interpolation of linear time-invariant (LTI) controllers designed for different operating points of a nonlinear system in order to produce a gain-scheduled controller. Guarantees of closed-loop quadratic stability and performance at intermediate interpolation points are presented in terms of a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs).     Gain scheduling with guardian maps for longitudinal flight control

    A new approach to gain scheduling of linear controllers is proposed and applied to a longitudinal flight control pro-blem. Traditionally, gain scheduling is done a posteriori by the interpolation of controller gains designed for several operating points or conditions. The method proposed here is based on guardian maps and does not require as many linear controller syntheses as there are design points. Rather, it extends the performance of an initial single controller carried out on an arbitrary operating point to the entire domain while ensuring generalized stability all along the process. The method, which uses a given fixed architecture controller, is successfully applied on the longitudinal flight control of a business jet aircraft
