Many philosophers say that two or more people or thinking beings could share a single human being in a split-personality case, if only the personalities were sufficiently independent and individually well integrated. I argue that this view is incompatible with our being material things, and conclude that there could never be two or more people in a split-personality case. This refutes the view, almost universally held, that facts about mental unity and disunity determine how many people there are. I suggest that the number of human people is simply the number of appropriately endowed human animals

This article focuses on the economic ideas which underpin New Labour's two very different appeals to the notion of prudence. The first treats prudence as a macroeconomic phenomenon, drawing upon the work of the 'time consistency' theorists of the 1970s. It dominated the Party's economic policy-making until the end of the first term in Government, emphasising the need for extreme vigilance on matters of public spending. The second treats prudence as a microeconomic phenomenon, drawing upon the eighteenth-century work of Adam Smith. It has become dominant since the start of the second term, emphasising the need to encourage the savings habit more widely within society. The shift in priority from the macroeconomic to the microeconomic understanding comes on the back of New Labour's own growing imprudence in time consistency terms. This essay draws on Julia Kristeva's concept of 'borderline' experience, a feature of psychotic discourse, to examine the representation of madness, split personality and sociopathic behaviour in James Hogg's The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner and the contemporary, muted Gothic of John Burnside's The Locust Room (2001). The main characteristics of borderline experience - a concern with authenticity and the proper name, with uncertain boundaries between inside and outside, truth and delusion - are central concerns in Hogg and Burnside, and the essay assesses the value of borderline discourse for a critical reading of madness in Gothic

The research is proposed to analyze the split personality of Cobb’s personality with Psychoanalityc Approach. The objectives of this study are to analyze the Inception movie based on Psychoanalytic approach and analyze the movie based on its structural elements. In achieving the objectives, the researcher uses descriptive qualitative method as the type of the research. The writer uses the movie of Christopher Nolan entitled Inception as the object of the study. There are two kinds of data sources used in this analyzing, namely primary and secondary data source. The primary data sources are the movie and the script of the movie itself and the secondary data sources are some books, internet and articles related to the subject. The technique of the data collection in this research is library research by summarizing, paraphrasing and documenting the data. In analyzing the data, the writer employs descriptive qualitative analysis. Based on the psychoanalytic analysis, in Inception, Christopher Nolan describes how traumatic experience of Cobb can cause split personality. The researcher makes an analysis of Cobb’s personality. The reseacher uses the theory of Psychoanalytic by Sigmund Freud that is relevant to the problem. Based on the analysis, the outcome of this study shows that the split personality of Cobb is caused by the traumatic experience in the past

The major prerequisites for the existence of a split personality (literary, philosophical, psychological) have been studied. The methods of cognitive poetics (conceptual metaphor, conceptual integration, theory of the possible worlds) are extrapolated onto the specific characters of a literary discourse to reveal a split state of their personality. Riemannian geometries on spaces of plane curves

We study some Riemannian metrics on the space of regular smooth curves in the plane, viewed as the orbit space of maps from $S^1$ to the plane modulo the group of diffeomorphisms of $S^1$, acting as reparameterizations. In particular we investigate the metric for a constant $A> 0$: G^A_c(h,k) := \int_{S^1}(1+A\ka_c(\th)^2) |c'(\th)| d\th where \ka_c is the curvature of the curve $c$ and $h,k$ are normal vector fields to $c$. The term A\ka^2 is a sort of geometric Tikhonov regularization because, for A=0, the geodesic distance between any 2 distinct curves is 0, while for $A>0$ the distance is always positive. We give some lower bounds for the distance function, derive the geodesic equation and the sectional curvature, solve the geodesic equation with simple endpoints numerically, and pose some open questions. The space has an interesting split personality: among large smooth curves, all its sectional curvatures are $\ge 0$, while for curves with high curvature or perturbations of high frequency, the curvatures are $\le 0$.Comment: amslatex, 45 pagex, 8 figures, typos correcte

The major problem of this study is how Robert Ford split his personality reflected in Andrew Dominik’s The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, resulted from unhandled problem he encounters. The aim of this study is to reveal the personality structure and the split of personality of the major character, influencing his behavior, using the mean of structural and psychoanalytic analysis. The object of this study is The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and it is focused on one of the major characters, namely Robert Ford.The benefit of the study is to give some contributions in the application of psychoanalytic approach in literary study and to fulfill the requirement for getting bachelor degree in English department. This study uses library data. The primary data are taken from the movie itself, while the secondary data from some criticism and information needed. The method of data collection is description and the study employs Sigmund Freud’s psychoanalysis to answer the problem. The finding of the study shows that the problem that the major character encounters causes the conflicts of his mental condition. Then, it develops to be his split personality. He does some actions to overcome his split personality. All of his acts are included into ego. These ways are the effective ways to overcome the problem

The results of the discussion show that the potential of children who are only focused on the Intelligence Quotient aspect will give birth to the child's personality which in fact becomes a Split Personality, Intelligence Quotient, therefore all three aspects must be developed equally.Seorang anak yang cerdas, pandai dan terampil merupakan dambaan setiap orang tua, karena itu tidak sedikit para orang tua yang melakukan berbagai upaya agar anak-anaknya dapat menjadi cerdas sesuai dengan harapan mereka. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap betapa besarnya syahwat orang tua untuk menjadikan anak-anaknya seperti yang diinginkan, tidak jarang mengalami beberapa kesalahan orientasi fundamental yang justru menghancurkan masa depan anak-anaknya sendiri. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah pendekatan kualitatif dengan jenis library research. Hasil pembahasan menunjukkan bahwa potensi anak yang hanya difokuskan pada aspek Intelegence Quatient saja akan melahirkan kepribadian anak yang justru malah terpecah Split Personality, Intelegence Quetient oleh karenanya ketiga aspek harus sama-sama bisa dikembangkan
