Palavras-chave: Modelo de ProveniĂȘncia, Ontologias, OWL, SĂ©ries Temporais NĂŁo-EstacionĂĄrias, Extração de TendĂȘnciasAbstract: Nowadays, many knowledge areas are related with the time series analysis, which are constituted by a sequence of data observation at the time. The time series analysis is different from the traditional data analysis, due to their intrinsic nature, where the observations are dependent. In this case, statistical procedures considering the data?s independence are not applied, being necessary the use of specific methods. Usually, the time series analysis occurs in two phases, preprocessing and data analysis. In the preprocessing phase, corrections are done to remove phenomena that occur throughout the time, like the trend extraction (detrending). Many detrending software can be applied for this objective, improving the analysis, as well as the most of statistical methods are developed to stationary time series. In a detrending process, provenance information about the time series and how the time series were detrended are not always explicit and easy to interpret. Such information can be obtained by metadata, which can generate ambiguity in the results generated and they can also be insufficient to semantically enrich the detrending process. On the other hand, ontologies allow generating and sharing knowledge about the time series and on the statistical methods used for it?s correction, as well as allow inferences. The main goal of this doctoral thesis is to define a provenance model using ontologies to semantically enrich the trend extraction of time series. The model is validated by a case study involving real photometric time series. The main contribution is the semantic knowledge generation, allowing to identify, besides the data, agents and process involved, information about the statistical methods used for detrending, facilitating the understanding about how the time series were generated and corrected, improving the decision making related with the statistical methods applicability. The novelty of this doctoral thesis is the definition of a provenance model for trend extraction, presenting a modular design, centered on reuse and on the ontologies extension to generate provenance about time series and detrending processes, enriching semantically a relevant step of preprocessing phase of the time series analysis, contributing to the generation of the scientific knowledge. Semantic and motor processes in infant perception of object-directed and tool-mediated action
Actions are the translation of internal states such as intentions into overt gestures and goals. Actions are communicative, because by observing anotherâs overt behaviour we can infer that personâs internal states. Infantsâ abilities to execute actions are limited by developing motor processes. Their capacity to make inferences from othersâ behaviour is hindered by their inability to engage in perspective-taking and other advanced social cognitive processes. Nonetheless, extensive evidence shows that infants perceive actions as goal-directed sequences that are meaningful, and that they respond to observed actions with motor resonance. The aims of this thesis were to determine how semantic and motor processing of observed action develop in infancy, whether these processes develop separately or in conjunction with one another, and how infantsâ abilities to execute and plan actions affects ability to detect semantic and motor differences between actions. These aims were achieved by studying how infants processed grasping actions that varied on different dimensions. In Chapter 1, the literature on infant action perception from social, motor and semantic perspectives is reviewed and the objectives of the thesis are described. In Chapter 2, the ability of 16-month-olds to discriminate between the uses of a novel tool when motor simulation processes are uninformative was investigated. In Chapter 3, the attentional and semantic neural correlates of processing of observed grasps were measured in 9-month-olds, 11.5-month-olds, and adults. In Chapter 4, motor activation in 10-month-old infants in response to motorically similar but semantically distinct grasping actions was related to infantsâ action planning skills. The results of these experiments show that there is a complex interplay between motor and semantic constituents of the action processing system, and that this interplay is developmentally dynamic. The implications of the results for understanding action processing in development are considered in Chapter 5

Hysteria, a mysterious disease known since antiquity, is said to have ceased to exist. Challenging this commonly held view, this is the first cross-disciplinary study to examine the current functional neuroimaging research into hysteria and compare it to the nineteenth-century image-based research into the same disorder. Paula Muhr's central argument is that, both in the nineteenth-century and the current neurobiological research on hysteria, images have enabled researchers to generate new medical insights. Through detailed case studies, Muhr traces how different images, from photography to functional brain scans, have reshaped the historically situated medical understanding of this disorder that defies the mind-body dualism

Pilot study for subgroup classification for autism spectrum disorder based on dysmorphology and physical measurements in Chinese children
Poster Sessions: 157 - Comorbid Medical Conditions: abstract 157.058 58BACKGROUND: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) is a complex neurodevelopmental disorder affecting individuals along a continuum of severity in communication, social interaction and behaviour. The impact of ASD significantly varies amongst individuals, and the cause of ASD can originate broadly between genetic and environmental factors. Objectives: Previous ASD researches indicate that early identification combined with a targeted treatment plan involving behavioural interventions and multidisciplinary therapies can provide substantial improvement for ASD patients. Currently there is no cure for ASD, and the clinical variability and uncertainty of the disorder still remains. Hence, the search to unravel heterogeneity within ASD by subgroup classification may provide clinicians with a better understanding of ASD and to work towards a more definitive course of action. METHODS: In this study, a norm of physical measurements including height, weight, head circumference, ear length, outer and inner canthi, interpupillary distance, philtrum, hand and foot length was collected from 658 Typical Developing (TD) Chinese children aged 1 to 7 years (mean age of 4.19 years). The norm collected was compared against 80 ASD Chinese children aged 1 to 12 years (mean age of 4.36 years). We then further attempted to find subgroups within ASD based on identifying physical abnormalities; individuals were classified as (non) dysmorphic with the Autism Dysmorphology Measure (ADM) from physical examinations of 12 body regions. RESULTS: Our results show that there were significant differences between ASD and TD children for measurements in: head circumference (p=0.009), outer (p=0.021) and inner (p=0.021) canthus, philtrum length (p=0.003), right (p=0.023) and left (p=0.20) foot length. Within the 80 ASD patients, 37(46%) were classified as dysmorphic (p=0.00). CONCLUSIONS: This study attempts to identify subgroups within ASD based on physical measurements and dysmorphology examinations. The information from this study seeks to benefit ASD community by identifying possible subtypes of ASD in Chinese population; in seek for a more definitive diagnosis, referral and treatment plan.published_or_final_versio
