    Decision diagrams in machine learning: an empirical study on real-life credit-risk data.

    Decision trees are a widely used knowledge representation in machine learning. However, one of their main drawbacks is the inherent replication of isomorphic subtrees, as a result of which the produced classifiers might become too large to be comprehensible by the human experts that have to validate them. Alternatively, decision diagrams, a generalization of decision trees taking on the form of a rooted, acyclic digraph instead of a tree, have occasionally been suggested as a potentially more compact representation. Their application in machine learning has nonetheless been criticized, because the theoretical size advantages of subgraph sharing did not always directly materialize in the relatively scarce reported experiments on real-world data. Therefore, in this paper, starting from a series of rule sets extracted from three real-life credit-scoring data sets, we will empirically assess to what extent decision diagrams are able to provide a compact visual description. The next step to data storage is the efļ¬cient and effective use of information, particularly through the Business Intelligence, at whose base is just the implementation of a Data Warehouse.     Web Data Extraction, Applications and Techniques: A Survey

    Web Data Extraction is an important problem that has been studied by means of different scientific tools and in a broad range of applications. Many approaches to extracting data from the Web have been designed to solve specific problems and operate in ad-hoc domains. Other approaches, instead, heavily reuse techniques and algorithms developed in the field of Information Extraction. This survey aims at providing a structured and comprehensive overview of the literature in the field of Web Data Extraction. We provided a simple classification framework in which existing Web Data Extraction applications are grouped into two main classes, namely applications at the Enterprise level and at the Social Web level. At the Enterprise level, Web Data Extraction techniques emerge as a key tool to perform data analysis in Business and Competitive Intelligence systems as well as for business process re-engineering. At the Social Web level, Web Data Extraction techniques allow to gather a large amount of structured data continuously generated and disseminated by Web 2.0, Social Media and Online Social Network users and this offers unprecedented opportunities to analyze human behavior at a very large scale. We discuss also the potential of cross-fertilization, i.e., on the possibility of re-using Web Data Extraction techniques originally designed to work in a given domain, in other domains.Comment: Knowledge-based System

    1.1 Background Following the advent of the web, there has been a great demand for data interchange between applications using internet infrastructure. XML (extensible Markup Language) provides a structured representation of data empowered by broad adoption and easy deployment. As a subset of SGML (Standard Generalized Markup Language), XML has been standardized by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) [Bray et al., 2004], XML is becoming the prevalent data exchange format on the World Wide Web and increasingly significant in storing semi-structured data. After its initial release in 1996, it has evolved and been applied extensively in all fields where the exchange of structured documents in electronic form is required. As with the growing popularity of XML, the issue of functional dependency in XML has recently received well deserved attention. The driving force for the study of dependencies in XML is it is as crucial to XML schema design, as to relational database(RDB) design [Abiteboul et al., 1995]

    Evolving web-based test automation into agile business specifications

    Usually, test automation scripts for a web application directly mirror the actions that the tester carries out in the browser, but they tend to be verbose and repetitive, making them expensive to maintain and ineffective in an agile setting. Our research has focussed on providing tool-support for business-level, example-based specifications that are mapped to the browser level for automatic verification. We provide refactoring support for the evolution of existing browser-level tests into business-level specifications. As resulting business rule tables may be incomplete, redundant or contradictory, our tool provides feedback on coverage
