An Experimental Investigation of the Performance of the Nitrogen Tetroxide-Hydrazine System in the Oxidizer-Rich and Fuel-Rich Regions

    Get PDF
The results of an experimental program directed toward determining some of the operational characteristics of the nitrogen tetroxide-hydrazine propellant system under oxidizer-rich and fuel-rich conditions are reported. Data are presented for the mixture-ratio ranges of 0 to 0.55 at a nominal chamber pressure of 300 psia and characteristic chamber length of 250 in., and at mixture ratios of 5.9 to 13.0 at nominal chamber pressures of 400 and 500 psia and characteristic chamber lengths of 100 and 3900 in. The relationship of the actual performance data obtained in each region with those predicted from thermochemical performance calculations is presented. From this comparison, it is concluded that in neither region are equilibrium conditions obtained and that utilization of performance data obtained from assumptions of equilibrium will lead to serious errors. In the oxidizer-rich region investigated, temperatures considerably below those predicted occur throughout the range of mixture ratios investigated because of the lack of exothermic dissociation of the nitrogen oxides. In the fuel-rich region, below a mixture ratio of 0.3, temperatures considerably higher than those predicted occur because of the lack of endothermic dissociation of ammonia

Evidence and modeling of turbulence bifurcation in L-mode confinement transitions on Alcator C-Mod

Ā© 2020 Author(s). Analysis and modeling of rotation reversal hysteresis experiments show that a single turbulent bifurcation is responsible for the Linear to Saturated Ohmic Confinement (LOC/SOC) transition and concomitant intrinsic rotation reversal on Alcator C-Mod. Plasmas on either side of the reversal exhibit different toroidal rotation profiles and therefore different turbulence characteristics despite the profiles of density and temperature, which are indistinguishable within measurement uncertainty. Elements of this bifurcation are also shown to persist for auxiliary heated L-modes. The deactivation of subdominant (in the linear growth rate and contribution to heat transport) ion temperature gradient and trapped electron mode instabilities is identified as the only possible change in turbulence within a reduced quasilinear transport model across the reversal, which is consistent with the measured profiles and inferred heat and particle fluxes. Experimental constraints on a possible change from strong to weak turbulence, outside the description of the quasilinear model, are also discussed. These results indicate an explanation for the LOC/SOC transition that provides a mechanism for the hysteresis through the dynamics of subdominant modes and changes in their relative populations and does not involve a change in the most linearly unstable ion-scale drift-wave instability

Evolving web-based test automation into agile business specifications

    Get PDF
Usually, test automation scripts for a web application directly mirror the actions that the tester carries out in the browser, but they tend to be verbose and repetitive, making them expensive to maintain and ineffective in an agile setting. Our research has focussed on providing tool-support for business-level, example-based specifications that are mapped to the browser level for automatic verification. We provide refactoring support for the evolution of existing browser-level tests into business-level specifications. As resulting business rule tables may be incomplete, redundant or contradictory, our tool provides feedback on coverage

Optimizing compilation with preservation of structural code coverage metrics to support software testing

    Get PDF
Code-coverage-based testing is a widely-used testing strategy with the aim of providing a meaningful decision criterion for the adequacy of a test suite. Code-coverage-based testing is also mandated for the development of safety-critical applications; for example, the DO178b document requires the application of the modified condition/decision coverage. One critical issue of code-coverage testing is that structural code coverage criteria are typically applied to source code whereas the generated machine code may result in a different code structure because of code optimizations performed by a compiler. In this work, we present the automatic calculation of coverage profiles describing which structural code-coverage criteria are preserved by which code optimization, independently of the concrete test suite. These coverage profiles allow to easily extend compilers with the feature of preserving any given code-coverage criteria by enabling only those code optimizations that preserve it. Furthermore, we describe the integration of these coverage profile into the compiler GCC. With these coverage profiles, we answer the question of how much code optimization is possible without compromising the error-detection likelihood of a given test suite. Experimental results conclude that the performance cost to achieve preservation of structural code coverage in GCC is rather low.Peer reviewedSubmitted Versio

Parentā€“Child Recurring Conflict: A Mediator between Parental Anger Management and Adolescent Behavior

    Get PDF
Guided by social learning theory, this longitudinal study examined whether parentā€“child recurring conflict mediated the association between parental anger management, an understudied antecedent to parentā€“child recurring conflict, and adolescent deviant and problem-solving behaviors in 415 rural families. Parental use of anger management in 6th grade was associated with less parentā€“child recurring conflict in 9th grade, which was associated with more adolescent problem-solving behavior in 11th grade. Family practitioners seeking to promote adolescent problem-solving behaviors may consider teaching families strategies for reducing parentā€“child recurring conflict and fostering parental anger management
