Rotten Green Tests A First Analysis

    Get PDF
Unit tests are a tenant of agile programming methodologies, and are widely used to improve code quality and prevent code regression. A passing (green) test is usually taken as a robust sign that the code under test is valid. However, we have noticed that some green tests contain assertions that are never executed; these tests pass not because they assert properties that are true, but because they assert nothing at all. We call such tests Rotten Green Tests. Rotten Green Tests represent a worst case: they report that the code under test is valid, but in fact do nothing to test that validity, beyond checking that the code does not crash. We describe an approach to identify rotten green tests by combining simple static and dynamic analyses. Our approach takes into account test helper methods, inherited helpers, and trait compositions, and has been implemented in a tool called DrTest. We have applied DrTest to several test suites in Pharo 7.0, and identified many rotten tests, including some that have been " sleeping " in Pharo for at least 5 years

Vegetable products are foods that are popular with many people. One vegetable product such as green chili is a vegetable commodity that cannot be abandoned by society in daily life. This was followed by demands for quality of green chili products. so that an analytical tool is needed that can analyze the freshness of green chili easily and practically. This study aims to develop an edible freshness sensor based on anthocyanin indicators from purple sweet potato extract (Ipomoea batatas L.) with a membrane mixture of cassava starch and chitosan. The edible freshness sensor can be applied as a freshness sensor and know the freshness level of green chili with various parameters. Tests for green chili freshness test included pH test, weight loss, texture value, and sensory evaluation test. The color change of the edible freshness sensor was observed visually and tested using the ImageJ program to determine the mean green value. The results show the color change of the freshness sensor is dark purple when the green chili is fresh, the light purple is still fresh and the light green is no longer fresh or rotten. The mean value of the green sensor for edible freshness increased along with the decline in the quality of green chili in the packaging. Keywords: Anthocyanin, tapioca starch, chitosan, green chill

Identify and Report Water Pollution: An Interpretive Guide to Surface Water Conditions of the New Hampshire Coastal Watershed, 2nd edition

This gude was designed to help people who work or recreate outdoors to interpret surface water conditions so that they would recognize a pollution incident and know how to report it. The guide also suggests actions that communities can take to prevent water pollution and protect vital water resources. Finally, the guide includes helpful, relevant resources that will further explain particular surface water conditions

Odour nuisance as a consequence of preparation for circular economy

Purpose: The main objective of this article is to assess the intensity of odour nuisance in urban areas, as resulting from the current solid waste disposal management policy. Design/Methodology/Approach: During the study severaal parameters were evaluated: in-situ odour concentration using the NasalRanger method (expressed in ouE/m3), hedonic odour sensory quality and description of odours using predefined descriptors (the list of descriptors included 109 items). For the purpose of evaluation of the hedonic sensory quality, a five-point scale was used in accordance with VDI 3883 recommendation: 1- pleasant, 2-neutral, 3-unpleasant, 4-very unpleasant, and 5-extremely unpleasant. Findings: The analysis of the results has confirmed a considerable impact of the average air temperature on the occurrence of odour nuisance. Practical Implications: A solution that may translate into the reduction of odour nuisances in urban areas is a closed-loop economy, which has become an important issue for the future and competitiveness of enterprises. Reuse and recycling of materials are two of the main characteristics of a closed-loop economy. Originality/Value: On the basis of the conducted sensory tests it is plausible to state that the smell nuisance depends on numerous factors.peer-reviewe

Hydrodynamic Simulations of the Interaction between an AGB Star and a Main Sequence Companion in Eccentric Orbits

The Rotten Egg Nebula has at its core a binary composed of a Mira star and an A-type companion at a separation >10 au. It has been hypothesized to have formed by strong binary interactions between the Mira and a companion in an eccentric orbit during periastron passage ~800 years ago. We have performed hydrodynamic simulations of an asymptotic giant branch star interacting with companions with a range of masses in orbits with a range of initial eccentricities and periastron separations. For reasonable values of the eccentricity, we find that Roche lobe overflow can take place only if the periods are <<100 years. Moreover, mass transfer causes the system to enter a common envelope phase within several orbits. Since the central star of the Rotten Egg nebula is an AGB star, we conclude that such a common envelope phase must have lead to a merger, so the observed companion must have been a tertiary companion of a binary that merged at the time of nebula ejection. Based on the mass and timescale of the simulated disc formed around the companion before the common envelope phase, we analytically estimate the properties of jets that could be launched. Allowing for super-Eddington accretion rates, we find that jets similar to those observed are plausible, provided that the putative lost companion was relatively massive.Comment: accepted for publication in MNRA

Reduction of gray mold development in table grapes by preharvest sprays with ethanol and calcium chloride.

    Get PDF
Preharvest applications of a 16% ethanol (EtOH) solution, containing 1 % of calcium chloride (CaCl2), reduced gray mold development in ‘Chasselas’ table grapes picked at a late harvest date, the losses due to rotten clusters dropped from 15% in controls to 5% in grapes treated with EtOH+CaCl2. Then over a 6-week cold storage, the losses due to gray mold rots were reduced by 50% when storing EtOH+CaCl2 treated clusters, compared to untreated controls. Preliminary experiments had shown that a 2% EtOH solution was already inducing significant drop of gray mold growth. A range of concentrations up to 50% ethanol had been tested in preliminary trials without observing damages to the vines and clusters. The treatments did not induce significant changes to the fruit quality assessed by sensory analyses on healthy berries
