Quality assessment by region in spot images fused by means dual-tree complex wavelet transform

This work is motivated in providing and evaluating a fusion algorithm of remotely sensed images, i.e. the fusion of a high spatial resolution panchromatic image with a multi-spectral image (also known as pansharpening) using the dual-tree complex wavelet transform (DT-CWT), an effective approach for conducting an analytic and oversampled wavelet transform to reduce aliasing, and in turn reduce shift dependence of the wavelet transform. The proposed scheme includes the definition of a model to establish how information will be extracted from the PAN band and how that information will be injected into the MS bands with low spatial resolution. The approach was applied to Spot 5 images where there are bands falling outside PAN’s spectrum. We propose an optional step in the quality evaluation protocol, which is to study the quality of the merger by regions, where each region represents a specific feature of the image. The results show that DT-CWT based approach offers good spatial quality while retaining the spectral information of original images, case SPOT 5. The additional step facilitates the identification of the most affected regions by the fusion process

Image resolution enhancement using dual-tree complex wavelet transform

In this letter, a complex wavelet-domain image resolution enhancement algorithm based on the estimation of wavelet coefficients is proposed. The method uses a forward and inverse dual-tree complex wavelet transform (DT-CWT) to construct a high-resolution (HR) image from the given low-resolution (LR) image. The HR image is reconstructed from the LR image, together with a set of wavelet coefficients, using the inverse DT-CWT. The set of wavelet coefficients is estimated from the DT-CWT decomposition of the rough estimation of the HR image. Results are presented and discussed on very HR QuickBird data, through comparisons between state-of-the-art resolution enhancement methods

Image fusion techniqes for remote sensing applications

Image fusion refers to the acquisition, processing and synergistic combination of information provided by various sensors or by the same sensor in many measuring contexts. The aim of this survey paper is to describe three typical applications of data fusion in remote sensing. The first study case considers the problem of the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Interferometry, where a pair of antennas are used to obtain an elevation map of the observed scene; the second one refers to the fusion of multisensor and multitemporal (Landsat Thematic Mapper and SAR) images of the same site acquired at different times, by using neural networks; the third one presents a processor to fuse multifrequency, multipolarization and mutiresolution SAR images, based on wavelet transform and multiscale Kalman filter. Each study case presents also results achieved by the proposed techniques applied to real data

Image fusion is the process of combining multiple images into a single image without distortion or loss of information. The techniques related to image fusion are broadly classified as spatial and transform domain methods. In which, the transform domain based wavelet fusion techniques are widely used in different domains like medical, space and military for the fusion of multimodality or multi-focus images. In this paper, an overview of different wavelet transform based methods and its applications for image fusion are discussed and analysed

Drought estimation maps by means multidate landsat fused images

The purpose of this paper is to analyze the usefulness of traditional indexes, such as NDVI and NDWI along with a recently proposed index (NDDI) using merged data for multiple dates, with the aim of obtaining drought data to facilitate the analysis for government premises. In this study we have used Landsat 7 ETM+ data for the month of June (2001-2009), which merged to get bands with twice the resolution. The three previous indices were calculated from these new bands, getting in turn drought maps that can enhance the effectiveness of decision making

Severe weather conditions such as rain and snow often reduce the visual perception quality of the video image system, the traditional methods of deraining and desnowing usually rarely consider adaptive parameters. In order to enhance the effect of video deraining and desnowing, this paper proposes a video deraining and desnowing algorithm based on adaptive tolerance and dual-tree complex wavelet. This algorithm can be widely used in security surveillance, military defense, biological monitoring, remote sensing and other fields. First, this paper introduces the main work of the adaptive tolerance method for the video of dynamic scenes. Second, the algorithm of dual-tree complex wavelet fusion is analyzed and introduced. Using principal component analysis fusion rules to process low-frequency sub-bands, the fusion rule of local energy matching is used to process the high-frequency sub-bands. Finally, this paper used various rain and snow videos to verify the validity and superiority of image reconstruction. Experimental results show that the algorithm has achieved good results in improving the image clarity and restoring the image details obscured by raindrops and snows
