    Sparse nonlinear optimization for signal processing and communications

    This dissertation proposes three classes of new sparse nonlinear optimization algorithms for network echo cancellation (NEC), 3-D synthetic aperture radar (SAR) image reconstruction, and adaptive turbo equalization in multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) underwater acoustic (UWA) communications, respectively. For NEC, the proposed two proportionate affine projection sign algorithms (APSAs) utilize the sparse nature of the network impulse response (NIR). Benefiting from the characteristics of l₁-norm optimization, affine projection, and proportionate matrix, the new algorithms are more robust to impulsive interferences and colored input than the conventional adaptive algorithms. For 3-D SAR image reconstruction, the proposed two compressed sensing (CS) approaches exploit the sparse nature of the SAR holographic image. Combining CS with the range migration algorithms (RMAs), these approaches can decrease the load of data acquisition while recovering satisfactory 3-D SAR image through l₁-norm optimization. For MIMO UWA communications, a robust iterative channel estimation based minimum mean-square-error (MMSE) turbo equalizer is proposed for large MIMO detection. The MIMO channel estimation is performed jointly with the MMSE equalizer and the maximum a posteriori probability (MAP) decoder.     Purpose: This study aims to analyze green supply chain management (GSCM) and green marketing strategies (GMS) to green purchasing intentions (GPI). This study conducts on craft SMEs in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Design/methodology/approach: This study uses primary data which is obtained through questionnaires. The unit of analysis in this study is organizations and individuals. The sampling technique is purposive sampling, with the criteria of SMEs that conduct environmentally friendly production processes and consumers who have ever bought green products. Data analysis uses structural equation modeling. Findings: The results of the data analysis show that there is an influence of green supply chain management on green marketing strategy, and there is an influence of green marketing strategy on green purchase intention. Research limitations/implications: This study is limited by relatively small sample size. The sample is only environmentally oriented SMEs. Large companies that are also environmentally friendly have not been included as samples in this study, so the results of this study only generalized to SMEs. Future research should accommodate these two types of companies, namely SMEs and companies, so that it can be easier to generalize the findings and allow different tests of GSCM to be applied to SMEs and large companies. This study only analyzed GSCM from two dimensions, namely GP and GCC. Other variables that can be used to explain GSCM are internal environmental, green information systems, eco-design and packaging. Practical implications: GSCM can be started with conducts the right GP and always coordinating with consumers which related to green products. GP (green purchasing) and GCC (green consumer cooperation) as GSCM elements have a strong association in predicting the success of a green marketing strategy. It is expected that SMEs should pay attention to the raw material purchase, so that the problem of environmentally friendly raw materials can be truly obtained to enter the production process and produce environmentally friendly products. Originality/value: This study analyzes the relationship between GSCM practices and organizational performance in the green marketing and business strategiescontext, where there is still a scarcity of studies in this context. Besides that, there is an increase in awareness of green operations and green marketing in Asia, but the relevant studies in Asian countries have not been conducted much, especially in Southeast Asia. The result of this study proves that the GSCM model can increase value along the supply chain by emphasizing green supply chain management and green marketing.Peer Reviewe

    Advances in power quality analysis techniques for electrical machines and drives: a review

    The electric machines are the elements most used at an industry level, and they represent the major power consumption of the productive processes. Particularly speaking, among all electric machines, the motors and their drives play a key role since they literally allow the motion interchange in the industrial processes; it could be said that they are the medullar column for moving the rest of the mechanical parts. Hence, their proper operation must be guaranteed in order to raise, as much as possible, their efficiency, and, as consequence, bring out the economic benefits. This review presents a general overview of the reported works that address the efficiency topic in motors and drives and in the power quality of the electric grid. This study speaks about the relationship existing between the motors and drives that induces electric disturbances into the grid, affecting its power quality, and also how these power disturbances present in the electrical network adversely affect, in turn, the motors and drives. In addition, the reported techniques that tackle the detection, classification, and mitigations of power quality disturbances are discussed. Additionally, several works are reviewed in order to present the panorama that show the evolution and advances in the techniques and tendencies in both senses: motors and drives affecting the power source quality and the power quality disturbances affecting the efficiency of motors and drives. A discussion of trends in techniques and future work about power quality analysis from the motors and drives efficiency viewpoint is provided. Finally, some prompts are made about alternative methods that could help in overcome the gaps until now detected in the reported approaches referring to the detection, classification and mitigation of power disturbances with views toward the improvement of the efficiency of motors and drives.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

    Updating dynamic noise models with moving magnetoencephalographic (MEG) systems

    Optically pumped magnetometers have opened many possibilities for the study of human brain function using wearable moveable technology. In order to fully exploit this capability, a stable low-field environment at the sensors is required. One way to achieve this is to predict (and compensate for) changes in the ambient magnetic field as the subject moves through the room. The ultimate aim is to account for dynamically changing noise environments by updating a model based on measurements from a moving sensor array. We begin by demonstrating how an appropriate environmental spatial noise model can be developed through Free-energy based model selection. We then develop a Kalman-filter based strategy to account for dynamically changing interference. We demonstrate how such a method could not only provide realistic estimates of interfering signals when the sensors are moving, but also provide powerful predictive performance (at a fixed point within the room) when both sensors and sources of interference are in motion
