    Chaser Priori Wolf (CPW) Optimization an Improved Optimization Technique Video Content Classification and Detection

    Optimizers play a crucial role in video object detection by promoting the training and improving the performance of the model. Optimizers are responsible for minimizing the loss function during training. The parameters of models are updated iteratively based on the gradients of the loss parameters. By continuously adjusting the parameters in the direction of the steepest descent, optimizers guide the model towards convergence, reducing the loss and improving the object detection performance. In the proposed paper hybrid optimizer named chaser priori wolf optimizer is proposed. The chaser priori wolf optimization is based on the hybridization of cat swarm optimization and coyote optimization. Well-known optimizers like SGD, ADAM, adagrad, adadelta and RMSprop are used as default optimizers by researchers. The proposed work introduced CPW optimizer which works for classification to improve the convergence and feature selection. The comparative result showed an increase in the performance of CNN based YOLO model. The results are compared concerning sensitivity, specificity and accuracy. Results clearly showed improvement in all performance metrics and the average improvement in comparison with state of art architecture is 10.3%

    Using Centroidal Voronoi Tessellations to Scale Up the Multi-dimensional Archive of Phenotypic Elites Algorithm

    The recently introduced Multi-dimensional Archive of Phenotypic Elites (MAP-Elites) is an evolutionary algorithm capable of producing a large archive of diverse, high-performing solutions in a single run. It works by discretizing a continuous feature space into unique regions according to the desired discretization per dimension. While simple, this algorithm has a main drawback: it cannot scale to high-dimensional feature spaces since the number of regions increase exponentially with the number of dimensions. In this paper, we address this limitation by introducing a simple extension of MAP-Elites that has a constant, pre-defined number of regions irrespective of the dimensionality of the feature space. Our main insight is that methods from computational geometry could partition a high-dimensional space into well-spread geometric regions. In particular, our algorithm uses a centroidal Voronoi tessellation (CVT) to divide the feature space into a desired number of regions; it then places every generated individual in its closest region, replacing a less fit one if the region is already occupied. We demonstrate the effectiveness of the new "CVT-MAP-Elites" algorithm in high-dimensional feature spaces through comparisons against MAP-Elites in maze navigation and hexapod locomotion tasks

    Abstract: In procedural content generation, one is often interested in generating a large number of artifacts that are not only of high quality but also diverse, in terms of gameplay, visual impression or some other criterion. We investigate several search-based approaches to creating good and diverse game content, in particular approaches based on evolution strategies with or without diversity preservation mechanisms, novelty search and random search. The content domain is game levels, more precisely map sketches for strategy games, which are meant to be used as suggestions in the Sentient Sketchbook design tool. Several diversity metrics are possible for this type of content: we investigate tile-based, objective-based and visual impression distance. We find that evolution with diversity preservation mechanisms can produce both good and diverse content, but only when using appropriate distance measures. Reversely, we can draw conclusions about the suitability of these distance measures for the domain from the comparison of diversity preserving versus blind restart evolutionary algorithms.peer-reviewe

    Hybrid biogeography-based evolutionary algorithms

    Hybrid evolutionary algorithms (EAs) are effective optimization methods that combine multiple EAs. We propose several hybrid EAs by combining some recently-developed EAs with a biogeography-based hybridization strategy. We test our hybrid EAs on the continuous optimization benchmarks from the 2013 Congress on Evolutionary Computation (CEC) and on some real-world traveling salesman problems. The new hybrid EAs include two approaches to hybridization: (1) iteration-level hybridization, in which various EAs and BBO are executed in sequence; and (2) algorithm-level hybridization, which runs various EAs independently and then exchanges information between them using ideas from biogeography. Our empirical study shows that the new hybrid EAs significantly outperforms their constituent algorithms with the selected tuning parameters and generation limits, and algorithm-level hybridization is generally better than iteration-level hybridization. Results also show that the best new hybrid algorithm in this paper is competitive with the algorithms from the 2013 CEC competition. In addition, we show that the new hybrid EAs are generally robust to tuning parameters. In summary, the contribution of this paper is the introduction of biogeography-based hybridization strategies to the EA community

    A Partition-Based Random Search Method for Multimodal Optimization

    Practical optimization problems are often too complex to be formulated exactly. Knowing multiple good alternatives can help decision-makers easily switch solutions when needed, such as when faced with unforeseen constraints. A multimodal optimization task aims to find multiple global optima as well as high-quality local optima of an optimization problem. Evolutionary algorithms with niching techniques are commonly used for such problems, where a rough estimate of the optima number is required to determine the population size. In this paper, a partition-based random search method is proposed, in which the entire feasible domain is partitioned into smaller and smaller subregions iteratively. Promising regions are partitioned faster than unpromising regions, thus, promising areas will be exploited earlier than unpromising areas. All promising areas are exploited in parallel, which allows multiple good solutions to be found in a single run. The proposed method does not require prior knowledge about the optima number and it is not sensitive to the distance parameter. By cooperating with local search to refine the obtained solutions, the proposed method demonstrates good performance in many benchmark functions with multiple global optima. In addition, in problems with numerous local optima, high-quality local optima are captured earlier than low-quality local optima

    Information-Geometric Optimization Algorithms: A Unifying Picture via Invariance Principles

    We present a canonical way to turn any smooth parametric family of probability distributions on an arbitrary search space XX into a continuous-time black-box optimization method on XX, the \emph{information-geometric optimization} (IGO) method. Invariance as a design principle minimizes the number of arbitrary choices. The resulting \emph{IGO flow} conducts the natural gradient ascent of an adaptive, time-dependent, quantile-based transformation of the objective function. It makes no assumptions on the objective function to be optimized. The IGO method produces explicit IGO algorithms through time discretization. It naturally recovers versions of known algorithms and offers a systematic way to derive new ones. The cross-entropy method is recovered in a particular case, and can be extended into a smoothed, parametrization-independent maximum likelihood update (IGO-ML). For Gaussian distributions on Rd\mathbb{R}^d, IGO is related to natural evolution strategies (NES) and recovers a version of the CMA-ES algorithm. For Bernoulli distributions on {0,1}d\{0,1\}^d, we recover the PBIL algorithm. From restricted Boltzmann machines, we obtain a novel algorithm for optimization on {0,1}d\{0,1\}^d. All these algorithms are unified under a single information-geometric optimization framework. Thanks to its intrinsic formulation, the IGO method achieves invariance under reparametrization of the search space XX, under a change of parameters of the probability distributions, and under increasing transformations of the objective function. Theory strongly suggests that IGO algorithms have minimal loss in diversity during optimization, provided the initial diversity is high. First experiments using restricted Boltzmann machines confirm this insight. Thus IGO seems to provide, from information theory, an elegant way to spontaneously explore several valleys of a fitness landscape in a single run.Comment: Final published versio

    Multimodal Optimization by Covariance Matrix Self-Adaptation Evolution Strategy with Repelling Subpopulations

    During the recent decades, many niching methods have been proposed and empirically verified on some available test problems. They often rely on some particular assumptions associated with the distribution, shape, and size of the basins, which can seldom be made in practical optimization problems. This study utilizes several existing concepts and techniques, such as taboo points, normalized Mahalanobis distance, and the Ursem's hill-valley function in order to develop a new tool for multimodal optimization, which does not make any of these assumptions. In the proposed method, several subpopulations explore the search space in parallel. Offspring of a subpopulation are forced to maintain a sufficient distance to the center of fitter subpopulations and the previously identified basins, which are marked as taboo points. The taboo points repel the subpopulation to prevent convergence to the same basin. A strategy to update the repelling power of the taboo points is proposed to address the challenge of basins of dissimilar size. The local shape of a basin is also approximated by the distribution of the subpopulation members converging to that basin. The proposed niching strategy is incorporated into the covariance matrix self-adaptation evolution strategy (CMSA-ES), a potent global optimization method. The resultant method, called the covariance matrix self-adaptation with repelling subpopulations (RS-CMSA), is assessed and compared to several state-of-the-art niching methods on a standard test suite for multimodal optimization. An organized procedure for parameter setting is followed which assumes a rough estimation of the desired/expected number of minima available. Performance sensitivity to the accuracy of this estimation is also studied by introducing the concept of robust mean peak ratio. Based on the numerical results using the available and the introduced performance measures, RS-CMSA emerges as the most successful method when robustness and efficiency are considered at the same time.FWN – Publicaties zonder aanstelling Universiteit Leide
